A cat was just yowling outside my door. It was an unfamiliar cat, it sounded very upset, it looked like it had been in a fight, and when it walked away, it was limping.

I don't know if it's a stray or a new neighborhood cat, how it got injured, or how badly injured it is. So, I'm not sure what to do. Especially since it's 1 am, and by the time any place is open, the cat will be long gone.

Advice, please? Should I call the Humane Society or some civic service to look into the matter? Should I wait to see if the cat turns up hurt again? Just ignore it?

Is the HS like the RSPCA? If so then yes. I'd also have some meat ready and if she comes back, see of you can tempt her over and catch her, just to make it easier for the HS.

I haven't seen it since. And I'm a bit nervous about letting it in; it didn't seem friendly last night, just desperate and angry.
