Current mood:Unhappy

While out furniture-shopping, I saw a couple of girls who were about to go see The Last Airbender. Except the adult friend of theirs kept calling it "waterbenders". Between that and that the girls were dark-skinned, I keep thinking that they probably saw themselves in Katara in the original series. And now they're going to see a Katara in the movie that's little more than the Token White Chick.

I did tell them that critical reaction has been awful, both from fans and non-fans, but I'm not sure if they'll decide not to see it, and if they don't, how much it might hurt them.

ETA: WTF I think I got banned from editing articles on TvTropes for adding negative tropes to TLA that the site owner didn't agree with. It's stupid and cliche... but I can't help thinking that the site has jumped the shark.

So much for "no such thing as notability" and whatnot.

But you know, if it's as bad as they say, he'll be awful busy trying to keep all the plebes off his article.

Courtesy of someone on [info]racebending, a collection of tweets from before and after the movie. Even the most outspoken defenders have started panning it after seeing it.

I find it hilarious that "the Last Airbender" was trending for three straight days and the new Twilight movie wasn't.

Well, it's dog bites man vs. man bites dog; Eclipse's premiere went pretty much as expected, but TLA's fail has exceeded even most naysayers' predictions.

TvTropes really has jumped it. It's partially that I just get linked to the bad pages, but I'm starting to get the feeling that the majority of the posters are entitled white guys who think they have it worse than anyone.

I'm starting to think that it's mostly one Entitled White Guy who also happens to be a site owner, and like-minded users reverting changes he doesn't agree with, which they can get away with because they have the blessing of a site owner. That's when he isn't doing the Heidipatrol footwork himself.

I would love it to be just one guy, but the back-and-forth on the Men Are The Expendable Gender and Acceptable Ethnic Targets pages convinces me that there are a whole darn lot of them.

Point is, the reason they don't get mocked off the site is because the owner is one of them.

Yus, that is true.
