Moonlight Sonata, Coda As I'm sure you all remember from Parts I, II, III, and IV Sleezer & Co. pulled down the forums at MLL and went underground. Except now there is MoonlightTroops.com, where the koolaid flows free, but you have to be approved and registered to see what goes on there. So far apparently 90 posts. Probably of Elizabuff's lame cat macros. lstevens, she of the emergency ER trips and medicated posts, makes a friendly invitation to come join her "sleeze" free new forum. Varieties of "No thanks. We know you're with Sleezer" are posted and lstevens announces Sleezer has nothing to do with her new forum!!! RLY!!! O RLY?~*~FIN~*~ note: There has been fun chatter over at the BWP off-topic board about the many places Sleeze is banned from like the CBS lot and apparently the Craig Ferguson show--but you have to register over thar to see it, kids. |

WoW PvP: Halp! I've been playing World of Warcraft for a few months now, and I really want to try PvP. I've never played a PvP game before, and most of the resources I've found on Google are focused on arena/battleground for high-level players.
I'm not really interested in battleground, because I'd just get in the way at this point. I'd like to do world PvP, but I'm not sure if there are codes of conduct/unwritten rules/things to be aware of before playing. Also, all my toons are below level 40, so the discussions about epic gear, etc., are kind of useless at this point.
Are there any good newbie guides, or resources for lower level players out there?
ETA: From the comments, it looks like the best way to learn and play PvP is in battlegrounds, so I'm gonna try it. Thanks to everyone who replied! (: |

If anyone here, like me, has been added on Livejournal by a bunch of random Russian journals lately and has been curious about WTF they're doing, we have an answer: apparently, they're spambots trying to harvest e-mail addresses from active accounts. More info: http://community.livejournal.com/abandonedplaces/1449348.htmlhttp://nympholept.livejournal.com/tag/russian+botsLJ Abuse is aware of the problem, so any suspected bots should be reported to them. ETA: A good way to tell if it's a bot is if the journal has been recently created, and they have a lot of people (often several hundred) friended but few mutual friends. If you do encounter one, the advice given on nympholept's journal is to just ignore them- do not friend them back, do not comment on their journals (a lot of them are disabling non-friend comments, anyway), simply report them to LJ Abuse. You don't have to give a lot of detail in the abuse report since they know what's going on, just give them links to the journals and say you suspect they are Cyrillic spambots. Chancery Stone discovers Nora Roberts, guess what happens next! I'm going to rip this straight from wank_report because the Mouse summarized it perfectly: "Small wank so far, but I'm sure Chancery won't disappoint us. After Stone's debacle on the Amazon romance forums, Chancery discovered Nora Roberts. And immediately finds her so silly and her writing so horrible, she can't HELP but write a big long post on just how LITTLE Chancery thinks of la Nora. http://danny.blogspirit.com/archive/2008/09/12/bleedin-nora.html#commentsAlso, in the comments, to prove to everyone that she really DOESN'T CARE AT ALL about Nora, Chancery goes to her local library for some of Nora's books. Because she COULD REALLY CARE LESS. The butthurt is continued in her next blog post, wherein Chancery cares so little about Nora and her success that she psychoanalyzes Roberts' home life, motivations, and lack of strong female influences in her life. http://danny.blogspirit.com/archive/2008/09/19/romancing-la-stone.html#commentsIt would have just been left at that, perhaps, if Karen Knows Best, the former blog that complained about the Amazon wank, hadn't picked up on it and posted their own butthurt on behalf of Nora. Now that people are paying attention to her tantrum, Chancery will inevitably ascend to the peaks of Mount Wankalaya never before scaled. http://karenknowsbest.com/2008/10/01/can-you-smell-the-desperation-from-here/#comments [ETA: Karen's account seems to have been suspended for some reason.]" *applauds mousie* The only things I'll add to this is that Chancery added another post in which she tries to spoof Nora's writing, with hi-fucking-larious results, and she found that last link the mousie gave. I would've put this in clairvoyantwank , but Chancery trying to spoof Nora's writing just put this one over the top.
Edited again to fix wacked-up HTML. GODDAMN RICH TEXT TAB.
Bride of ETA: There's now some bonus wank/rage in the comments of Chancery's post on being spotted by Karen. I don't know if it's related to Karen's blog going down or not, but some people clearly think so.
Son of ETA: Karen's blog is now back up. Leading theories are lasers, monkeys, space lasers, space monkeys, or space laser monkeys or us wankas overusing metered bandwidth.
Bride of the Son of ETA: What the shit? (from a new comment, made today, in CS's first post)
Revenge of the Bride of ETA: Speaking of batshit comments, there is now delightful catfighting in Chancery's post about Karen. Particularly beautiful (emphasis mine):
ItsASecret, why do you all have an obsession with me changing? Do you have problems with people changing on you? Is this a fear of werewolves, vampires? Did your mother have a sex change and become your dad?
And there is no facility to screen comments on Blogspirit. All I can do is delete them. Would you like me to delete yours? Would that help you feel more special? Try not to look so paranoid. It's an ugly trait, and you're already trying too hard.
You can't win, you know.
Don't worry, I have screencaps in excess should CS go on a deleteathon. |

Well, they didn't say it was a COMMUNIST plot.... So there was a film called An American Carol that opened this weekend; produced by the same guy who made the Airplane and Naked Gun comedies, and featuring a filmmaker named "Michael Malone" who makes leftist documentaries and wants to abolish July 4th as a national holiday (gee, you think they're parodying anyone?), who gets visited by the ghosts of 3 former presidents and reforms and decides to love America after all. Well, it only came in ninth in box office returns this weekend; first place in in the box office take was Beverly Hills Chihuahua. So early this week, the film's creators posted their reaction to this development: a statement accusing theaters of fraud. We have had heard from numerous people across the country that there has been some ticket fraud when buying a ticket for An American Carol this past weekend. Please check your ticket. If you were in fact one of those people that were "mistakenly" sold a ticket for another movie please fill out the form below. Hold on to your ticket so we can have proof.
If you have noticed other irregularities with the theatres in your area please let us know in the comment section below. For instance, Rated R film rating (when in fact we are rated PG-13), posters not being up, not being listed on the marquee, image or focus problems, sound issues, etc.
We are investigating. What the above link goes to is a Googlecache of that page, which has since been taken down from the official website. But I did find an interesting discussion on the matter here....I'm kinda torn, because on the one hand, based on the previews I've seen, it's far more likely that the sales were low because the film probably sucked. But on the other hand -- frankly, I'd be skeptical too if I came in ninth to a talking chihuahua. |

Good Old-Fashioned Fanboy Outrage Moving this from ClairvoyantWank because of the ongoing fanboy rage. An ANN that Zac didn't purposely start! *shock* Every new season, ANN has an Anime Preview Guide that has different reviewers watch an episode or two of a new series and give it a review. That also means that show defenders will jump into the forum and call the reviewer an uninformed idiot if they give the episode a bad review. Casey's review of Clannad ~After Story~ caused fanboys to jump in and defend the show's honor. Casey's Review: It seems exceedingly difficult to justify the existence of a bishoujo anime series like Clannad that, while long on big-eyed, big-busted heroines, is woefully short on the fanservice.greyhawk: No more difficult than the existence of anime and a reviewer called Casey Brienza, I must add, but that would be ad hominem, oh noes! Casey's Review: The story operates under the assumption that you already know the plot premise and cast of characters... ...which is quite a long time but still way too quick for any newbie viewer to glean real backstory from current events...greyhawk: This is where she's starting to pull crap out of her ass. Is she saying this because she hasn't watched the first season, or because she's pretending to be a newbie viewer? For your sake, let's assume the latter, so she's actually caring for the people who, in their infinite wisdom, believe that nothing ever happens in a whole season and thus decide to jump to the second one? Oh yes, there ARE such people, and I AM telling them to either stop watching or shoot themselves in the head and die. Anyway I must applaud her for making it look like KyoAni's fault.Casey's Review: Although this anime series seems to be going for a modest elegance, the absolute best it ever achieves is inoffensive mediocrity.greyhawk: I just love weasel words, they make you look more intelligent (read: fail) somehow.
...
tl;dr note: when you bash a series, do it right, don't make yourself look like a sorry loser. I could care less about the series, but the stupidity was so breathtaking that it grasped my attention. Nice trolling! Just personal opinions, rite? Was I unnecessarily rude? I don't know, I was just imitating some certain reviewers. Zac: Jesus christ, some of you need to settle down. It's a cartoon.
Enjoy your ban. Anyone else getting ridiculously personal and nasty because they're mad someone didn't like their favorite cartoon will be banned as well. The rage doesn't stop there and to make things worse, Zac is not only on the forums but now trolling with a Clannad review of his own. He didn't start the wank but that doesn't mean he's not going to fuel the fire. |

Fox to redo 'Absolutely Fabulous' Network taps Zander to adapt Saunders series Edina and Patsy are ready to take on L.A.
Fox is developing a redo of Jennifer Saunders' enduring Britcom "Absolutely Fabulous," to be exec produced by Mitch Hurwitz, Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum for Sony Pictures TV, Tantamount and BBC Worldwide America.
Christine Zander ("Saturday Night Live") is set to write the script and will exec produce along with the BBC's Ian Moffet and original series creator Saunders. Fox has given Sony a script order with hefty penalty attached.
The latest attempt at a U.S. rendition of "Ab Fab" will be transplanted to L.A. but retain the basic template of the original, revolving around the friendship of two boozy, over-40 best friends who are desperate to stay hip and youthful and who carry on under the disapproving eye of Edina's teenage daughter, Saffy.
More than a decade ago, Roseanne Barr worked on developing a U.S. version of the show with Carrie Fisher for ABC. CBS' 1995-98 Cybill Shepherd comedy "Cybill" had an "Ab Fab" flavor to it. Another short-lived 1995 sitcom, CBS' "High Society," starring Jean Smart and Mary McDonnell, was a thinly veiled imitation.
Original series starred Saunders and Joanna Lumley. It was a big hit in Britain and successful import for Comedy Central. In the U.K., "Ab Fab" ran as a regular series from 1992-95, with a two-part finale airing in 1996. Saunders and Lumley reunited for further adventures with fresh segs produced in 2001 and 2003.
The show has lots of potential to work in the States, especially if it takes place in LA, but I really don't want it to be remade. I have a feeling that Jennifer Coolidge might be cast in it, haha... *runs back to work* |

I have this slightly weird hobby of going to fanfiction.net and reading writer profiles. Generally, I'm mildly amused with occasional moments of being pleasantly surprised when I find out that someone else likes one of my rare fandoms. However, this last time I came across something in a profile that makes me want to reach through the screen and strangle someone:
"I wish people would stop writing gay/ lesbo stories on FanFiction. Jeez, if you hate them enough to make them gay don't watch/read it at all then!"
There are so many things wrong with that statement, I don't even know where to begin. Right now I'm too enraged to go into all the specific wrong.

And we thought the Bat-Fam was emo before? http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117993158.html?categoryid=14&cs=1I.. I have no words for the feelings of dread creeping up my fanboy spine. Next, we can likely expect a retake on classic westerns about a poor, disfigured farmer's son who whines and mopes for seven years without ever becoming a badass bounty hunter. To The Fray songs no less. Because dammit, that's how I wanna see Jonah Hex! Current Mood: GRRRRRR |

Running With The Theme, or Hey Kids, What Time Is It? It's time to play everyone's favorite game: AMV Matchup! The fandom_rant thread is starting to drift toward this anyway, so let's make it official... As established, everybody's sick and tired of the same old same old when it comes to AMVs. Too much "Mortal Kombat" theme. Too much Evanescence. Too much Linkin Park. Too much "boom-de-yada"[1]. Too much...and the list goes on. So what do you think would work, that you haven't seen? Provide links to music/video if you wish. I'll throw one out as an opening suggestion: kadath and I and a few others were discussing the possibility of some of the old folk tunes. How about Old Dun Cow (as performed here by the Brobdingnagian Bards, but I have an MP3 by the Crimson Pirates I think would work better) set to a Lina Inverse ( Slayers) eating/drinking/making things explode montage? ( ecchaniz0r, they also have a pretty awesome cut of "Bedlam Boys"/"Tom Of Bedlam.") [1] Besides, how can you top XKCD? Fall Out Boy donates $50K to No on Prop 8. "We believe government shouldn't legislate love. Vote no on proposition 8."(For non-Californians: Proposition 8 would amend the state constitution to define marriage as between one man and one woman. Currently, same-sex marriage is legal via judicial ruling.) ETA: Additional links, while I'm at it. Without expletive deleted. This one also mentions that Google also opposes the measure. AMV makers, I am calling you out. Look, I know it's really hard to come up with good songs to make vids to, most of the good ones have been done to death already. And hell, sometimes a song just really fits a show and you've gotta use it. It's very possible to make a good vid out of a song other people have made vids with.
But for the love of Ceiling Cat, I am demanding you cease and desist with the Mortal Kombat vids. Please. I don't care if it's the original version, the Utah Saints mix, or the MK3/4 one that named damn near all of MK's 40 billion characters, just give it a fucking rest already. It is neither cute, nor original, and I've seen maybe three in about 10 years that didn't suck. One was a Sailor Moon vid from around 1996. There are many other catchy, fast-paced techno songs that would be awesome to use for an action video. Please use them.
This also goes for anything involving Evanescence. I'm looking at you, Final Fantasy fandom. SHIT IS NOT DEEP, sry2say. Please go on Pandora.com and expand your musical palette.
signed,
kyl, who is starting to think YouTube is the AMV equivalent of the Pit of Voles.
PS: While I'm at it, you pretentious douches with the minute long (!) production marks before your vids? You are not Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, or Peter Jackson. You are not making Citizen Kane. You're a nerd splicing clips from Japanese cartoons to shitty nu metal songs. Adjust your ego accordingly, kthx.

Ryan Lochte Gave Me Chlamydia! TOTALLY TRUE! Over on ontd_olympics, brand-spankin'-new user kristixkupcakes (journal now deleted) posts a tl;dr entry (also now deleted) titled "MY SEXUAL ENCOUNTER WITH RYAN LOCHTE." Her long, sordid tale of a disappointing hookup with the US Olympic gold-medal swimmer includes the following highlights: ( I'm doing bodyshots off Ryan and everybody's in a deep drunken haze )Again with the sympathy and the "omg, I totally knew he was a douchebag!" At least until kristixkupcakes posts again: MY SEXUAL ENCOUNTER WITH RYAN LOCHTE -- MORE.
So I've been an avid watcher of this community and ONTD and I've finally joined here and noticed how everybody's gaga over the kid I slept with on my birthday and I think you guys should know what happened because your opinion of him will change. And then, behind an lj-cut: you just got punk'd. - christopher ashton kutcher <3
USE A CONDOM!The comments EXPLODE. Accusations of sockpuppetry and mod involvement abound, and there are calls for bannination, as well as the usual "OMG, you guys, have a sense of humor!" Again, this one's been bahleeted, but there are screencaps for downloading: before the post was unlocked and after it was unlocked. Finally, like all good wanks, this one's wrapped up with a mod post claiming that the whole shenanigan was the result of a "chat that got too out of hand." Things seem to be settling down for now, but who knows? Maybe Nastia Liukin will eat someone's baby, or Usain Bolt will turn out to actually be a cyborg! IT COULD TOTALLY HAPPEN, PEOPLE. Sleezer: World Domination Tour PART IV: ATTACK OF THE 404 ERROR The rebel forces at MLL got their bus ads (at least two of them, which is like 5%) Notice I'm linking to the images at BWP, because the Death Star forums at MLL have mysterious gone down. There are rumors and speculation that Sleezer and Kate are in the MLL chat and kick out everyone who tries to pop in. Kayspleen who donated all the money for the ads was banned from MLL as were JTF, evilyn, and lila. Mod Reuben quit and was replaced by pantiesinawad bunchesoffun. There is a fun philosophical discussion on the nature of hate over at BWP. Will the forums come back up? Will we ever find out how much the ads actually cost? Will we learn if the kind of bus the ads are on makes a difference? Will we find out if Sleezer actually ate any of those pagan babies? Stay tuned... ETA alpha: rijane has more dirt on Sleezer deleting a huge chunk of the forum late last night. ETA beta:: Leeser caught lurking at BWP?? ETA gamma: Ex-MLL mods offer pretty damning evidence that Sleezer skimmed $10k off the 2008 con money.ETA delta: rijane explains about lawyers filing charges in this mess. ETA epsilon: More con $$ shennanigans. ETA zeta: SLEEZER SAYS MLL FORUM DOWN FOR GOOD!edited to remove link to chat transcript because it violates F_W rules. You can find it if you dig around at BWP, but I am suspicious of the empty brand new journal. ETA eta: I smell bullshit. I'm not the brightest bulb in the hallway, but this reads like one of Sleezer's supporters pretending to be a mouse and "leaking" info to us. YMMV. ETA theta: www.lisagerry.com/ includes lots of MLL caps and all sorts of fun and damning evidence! ETA iota: BWP has gone to registered users only for the off-topic forums. So none of these links work now. YAY? I think that concludes this wank unless Sleezer brings the forums back and explains it was a social experiment or something. disclosure: I registered over there because I wanted to ask the site owner to take my user name off of lisagerry.com. AOHell, still. AOL's Hometown and AOL Journals are "closing their doors." Dear AOL Journals user,
We're sorry to inform you that on Oct. 31, 2008, AOL® Journals will be shut down permanently. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
It is very important that you save your Journals content before the shutdown. We're working on a way to easily move your Journal to another blogging service -- you can expect an email within the next week with more details about how to do it. We want the transition to go as smoothly as possible for you, so you'll have two choices. You can either save your information manually and find another place to blog on your own, or let us handle the migration for you and automatically transfer your Journal to a different blogging service. No word as to WHY but a couple of people on my LJ f-list are mourning their fanfic archives. I don't use AOL but if you do then, y'know, heads up! |
