I'm doing a survey on how people watch sports on television. If you are interested, please help me out and let me know if you want to see the results. You can find it at

I was researching for my audience studies paper and found that KC was one of the Hollywood spies for Turimel completely by accident. I was looking for response to the book and found on the official site:
It is superbly written. LoTR was a huge part of the lives of a lot of people. And they deserve better than to be taken for a ride by some psychopaths. FoxyKC, Hollywood Blvd spy
Small world. I would be curious as to how many crossovers there are between people aware of the different major fan conflicts associated with LoTR. And if that is due to Fandom Wank or something else entirely. Perhaps I only see a connection because those were the ones reported widely and there are others that didn't receive as much notice. Though I think it depends also on who people are fans of. Somebody involved with Elijah's Doorstep might not necessarily know about the Atti Schneider problem. However, you could use network analysis to examine the connections. |

Haven't done this in a while as this journal has suddenly turned into my fandom research posting place. My newest burst of stupidity inspiration? Using part of the VB/OB scandal for the research component in my audience studies course. My professor suggested focusing on representations of fan betrayal using it, but I wanted to go in a different direction. Since she recommended I read through the book on it, I'd prefer to do a critical analysis of how the book attempts to engage the audience of the book, assumptions about who the audience is, and problematic issues that arise through the format of the book. In addition, I'd like to postulate on whether a text so clearly meant for revenge lessens its credibility as a nonfiction source for the audience, though I feel that's beyond the scope of a textual analysis.
I think I'm glutton for punishment. As someone who has studied comp lit, I'm aching to tear the entire thing apart from a political, historical, and social context. Which makes it difficult to focus on what the book does for the audience based on what the author assumes the audience to be. |

Anybody remember seeing a scan of the bit about VVG in XY magazine? I vaguely recall it, but couldn't find it. I actually was trying to remember what the site next to it was. |

I was revising my ICA version and I realized that one of the icons has a term I didn't include in the glossary.
So...
How would you define "ass full throttle" in terms of DLA and what it meant to the community vs. why the tinhats said it? |

Surprisingly, after finishing the whole big long monster that was my undergrad thesis, I stayed away from the whole tinhat phenomenon for a bit. And I come back and it's almost just like when I left.
It's just like the soap operas I used to watch. Except without as much eye candy. |

It's been a while, no? Actually, I just received word that I get to present the shortened version of my thesis at the International Communication Association's Conference this May. So, that's going to be the version I'll be putting up on the web when I work my way around how to use Dreamweaver to make it all nice and shiny. I figure that'll be my practice before helping all the poor people in the class I'm a teaching fellow for work out the bugs in their pages. Look for a link to it in a couple of weeks or so. Though since I chopped off about 50 pages it's quite the bare bones of what I did.
Nevertheless, I'm proud of my tiny little study and even happier that the craziness continues, albeit on a smaller scale than before. Especially since as a result my advisor now actually knows the names of the actors in Lord of the Rings and what they look like (at least the hobbits), and can even tell Dom and Billy apart. That's impressive since at first he couldn't tell them from a hole in the wall. We'll see how many more unsuspecting academics become more knowledgeable about the basics as well. |

I'm in the midst of turning my thesis into something to submit for a conference, which I have every intention of posting when I can find the time. Of course, that requires finishing what I'm doing.
In other random news, google cache is my friend. Otherwise I would have had to search for something new since I lost my saved copy. |

I feel like such a ho for ignoring Journalfen for so long. But I was tired of not getting in and then got sick, so the comp was ignored a bit too long. I also am in the process of revising my thesis while working my ass off at a camp. I should find a kind soul to help me put the thing up soon. Though I'm not sure about putting the long version up or the version that I'm going to submit for the ICA Conference.
In much more fun news, I did get the posters from snacky so thank you! I was a bit confused at first why I would get something from a school I didn't apply to for grad school, but it made sense when I opened it.
To sum things up, I am a sick idiot. And I should go to the doctor as I've been fighting a cold for two weeks. |

So I IM'ed the boy to his mobile and got told he received it, but couldn't respond back because it was his mobile. Now ignoring the tempatation of what I could do via IM without him able to respond properly, this leads to a serious question.
Should somebody send an IM talking dirty and it goes to someone's mobile, is that cyber sex, phone sex, or some weird hybrid?
This is something to ponder by the way. I really want to know. |

Was researching for work and found this:
Supervise children when they are using fireworks. Never assume that a child will read and follow safety instructions.
I'll bet somewhere is an adult who follows to this letter and doesn't read the safety instructions either and then demands to know what happened when his/her kid gets hurt. But I'm just a cynic. |

LJ is being wanky, so I'm abusing my account here to post random thoughts about The Passion of Christ. I never wanted to pay to see it, seeing as I'm Jewish and all and was only interested by the Aramaic/Latin.
But as for politics and controversy I will say the best thing the Jewish community could ever have done was kept their mouths shut and the film would probably end up doing a hell of a lot worse at the box office as it will now due solely to the controversy about it. I don't think it's nearly so controversial as people make it out to be, that it never could be that controversial. I will say that I think that it reflects a rather disturbing rise in the amount of people who are getting freaky religious, but that's been going on for a while. Hell, I saw an ad for sending Jews to Israel on BET the night of the SAGS that obviously is from that lovely group of Christians intent on sending all the Jews to Israel to bring the Second Coming of Christ. To say that it's doing stuff on its own is ridiculous. I don't think it'll incite any more anti-Semitism than has already started to rise on its own. Fact of the matter is, anti-Semitism is and has been on the rise. This movie...not worth the splooge.
If the US President refuses to believe in evolution because it contradicts the Bible and there are a whole bunhc of idiots against gay marriage due to a book that contradicted itself, then Mel Gibson's movie is only a reflection of the trend, not the trend itself. I mean, what can you expect from someone whose father is an anti-Semitic asshole who denies the Holocaust? |

*sigh* I so wish I could post on dl_anon to respond to the stupidity inherent in this comment.
I mean, to take a quote that says it's the first time he fell in love with a film copartner and say Dom counts as a copartner on a film that wrapped before he made the film with Franka makes it pretty fucking obvious that he didn't fall in love with Dom.
Stupid people suck. Except when they're funny stupid. |

Looking back at this is just too much fun:
Take this gem from an anon who signs as Smaug:
If you keep this little slagging match up I could certainly do worse. And that is not an empty threat. This caught my attention quick enough and I'm sure I can think of something to catch the rest of the slasher communties attention quicker.
I'm sorry. Grow Up and have some respect for others.
A threat followed by grow up and have some respect for others? Capital Grow Up no less?
