Hipster is the new yuppie.
This is the smartest insight I've had all month, and even then it was prompted by something ![[info]](http://www.journalfen.net/img/userinfo.gif) fromaway said, so please don't judge me. Heh.
I love the phone calls that begin with some industry type proclaiming my awesomeness. The ego I like to have stroked is the one that goes with my musical professionalism, and I hurt it the other day by having a migraine that prevented me from even THINKING about a practice I was supposed to go to. And this was the first practice with these people, and it's a new business relationship, and not good, you know?
Today they called and not only are they not annoyed, but they want me to fill in for someone else at the last moment. I have a few hours to learn the part and adapt it for bodhran, and a few days to get it concert-ready. Of course I'm doing it, firstly because it's a fun song, but secondly because it trumps my not showing up for that practice. And they're still ecstatic that they get to have me. And I still can't figure it out, because I play bodhran, not an instrument that's actually, um, popular.
