The story behind Aretha:
45 minutes into the 1998 Grammy telecast, Pavarotti fell ill and could not perform Nessun Dorma. So Aretha Franklin stepped in. It had to be in Pavarotti's key because there was no time to change the orchestra's music. She had a half hour to rehearse, and did a beautiful job. It remains one of my favorite performances.
