Update: 09/20/09

This post will no longer be updated. To see new updates please to my mirror recs at Dreamwidth Stargate Atlantis Master Rec List

I'm cross posting to four journals via DW and I don't have time anymore to manually post updates to this list. For some reason neither IJ or JF will cross post a journal entry that's two years out of date.

updated: 8/28/08 I had to split the Supernatural Rec lists into two seperate posts due to the rec list reaching the 10k word size limit. I'm debating on moving the rec list onto a seperate HTML document. But will have to give that more thought. In the meantime, please update your bookmarks.

Star Trek Reboot

Observations by anon-j-anon (Kirk/Spock Uhura/Scotty) INSTANT REC!!! To say this story is a novel is an understatement. At about 400k words this story is epic. I loved seeing the story unfold from Spock's pov and how his and Kirk's relationship develops. I also loved that the author did not ignore the other characters on the ship. Everyone had their story and there were many ups and downs along the way. The link on this rec goes to the KS archive where the author is currently uploading the revised/edited version of the story but if you get to the end and don't want to wait to read the rest she has the rest of the story uploaded here: http://anon-j-anon.livejournal.com/30674.html

Not All Those Who Wander (Star Trek XI, Spock Prime) by parrotfic (Gen) This was so funny and awesome. I loved seeing Kirk's letter mixed in with SpockPrimes wanderings. :)

And Cried Out His Name In Joy by pervyficgirl (Kirk/SpockPrime) I loved the concept of accidental bonding pon farr and the author's character voices felt spot on.

Call me Jim by 13empress (Kirk/Spock) I loved Kirk as a woman, she was so funny and still Kirk. Spock's pov was awesome.

Take Refuge in What You Know by [personal profile] corpus_invictus INSTANT REC!!! I loved the character voices, the plot, and I also loved that the story did not take the easy way out. I couldn't stop reading once I started.

Whole Together by heeroluva This was hot.

Supernatural

I'd Gladly Lose Me To Find You by flawedamythyst (Sam/Dean) I loved Sam's character voice and this was a sweet romance.

In other news, I'm reading a lot more Star Trek now than Supernatural but I still intend to read many of the SPN Big Bang fics when I'm on vacation in August. (or at least that's the plan)

I also changed my Delicious tag system to make it easier for people to find recs using various categories. As a result of this change many of the links in the older rec posts won't work.

I also still need to find some Star Trek icons...

3rd-Jul-2010 06:49 pm - Slightly distressing realization
Over the past few months I think I've been using the computer too much at work and at home and as a result I realized today that I've been in pain every day for the last two weeks. Mostly my neck and my arm/wrist.

Most of it is because my main source of entertainment is reading my flist, participating in the [livejournal.com profile] legendland community challenges, and basically converting stories into ebook format and etc....Almost everything I like to do involves sitting in front of a computer or sitting on the couch (mostly reading or watching TV).

I've come to the realization that I need to cut back even more of my online time at home if I want to prevent serious damage to my body if it's not already too late. :( And possibly be more consistent with taking breaks at work to get up and walk around for five minutes, not just stand up for a minute every 30 minutes and sit back down again.

I'm not sure when my online life became my life and I like to say that I use my computer as a tool but the idea of not having access to my computer and being completely cut off is sort of scary. However, it's equally scary to realize that I'm only 30 and I have chronic neck pain. The hard part is that I don't have many friends in Alaska to go do things with and I don't want to just go to bars and drink and socialize.

Yesterday evening I filtered my LJ reading list down even further. I think it kind of grew out of control two years ago when I worked at a job that had unlimited internet access and way too much time to kill.

Now I don't have free access to everything on the internet when I'm at work and I certainly do not have too much free time.

It's taking me 45 minutes to an hour to catch up on LJ/DW posts. I'd like to bring that down to 15 minutes if possible. I'm not sure it should take that long to read through posts if you're gone from the internet for 16 hours.

19th-Jun-2010 12:24 am - Flist help
Hi,

I'm trying to figure out what code to use to link to a livejournal community from dreamwidth.

I've gone to this page http://wiki.dwscoalition.org/notes/Help:Contents#LJ_Links however when I tried what they said < ljcomm > (minus the spaces) and nothing happened.

Did the code change at some point? Or am I doing it wrong?

I'd appreciate any help with this.

Thanks!

Star Trek Reboot

Through Blind Men's Eyes by ladyblahblah (Kirk/Spock) INSTANT REC!!! I loved the writing style, the plot, and the sex was incredibly hot. The story built up the tension in a very believable way and the ending was very good. :)

Out of the Lines by betweenthebliss (Spock/Uhura Kirk/Gaila) INSTANT REC!!! I LOVED Uhura's voice in this story and seeing more of Gaila. I could not stop reading once I started.

Only Good for Legends by [dreamwidth.org profile] leupagus (Kirk/Spock) INSTANT REC!!! I could not stop reading this story once I started. Detective Spock sounds so much like Commander Spock and I loved how being raised on earth changed him and yet he's still recognizably Spock. I also loved how the slow build up in Kirk and Spock's relationship and all the other characters felt like real people and I thoroughly enjoyed them. This is a run not walk to rec.

I really need to find myself some Star Trek icons.
