Oh, this could be interesting... Warner Brothers is trying to get the licensing to make a live-action adaptation of Bleach. I sense amusement on the horizon, and I know it could totally generate wank in the future. Head's up everybody! |

Hetalia is too lulzy, I want it to OFFEND! OFFEND, I TELL YOU! A bit late, but as I told an anon in wank_report, it's here. Sorry for C/ping. Random Hetalia fan chucks the cat within the birds as a reply to a Hetalia secret, by saying: ( History isn't for the weak! And even if I have to make the whole fandom look bad AGAIN, I'll say it! )You can guess how many shenanigans, troll accusations, "debates" about WWII, horrified screams of the "this is why Hetalia fandom has a bad rep!", etc. followed until the threads were frozen. New York Magazine must love Twilight ...or else their writers wouldn't come up with material like this. Police Are on the Lookout for Man Who Bit Taxi Driver By: Dan Amira A man who pulled a gun on a taxi driver, and then bit him "repeatedly on the neck, arm and back" in the struggle that followed, is being sought by the NYPD. He is described as being around 30 years old, six feet tall, pale, lightning-quick, cold-skinned, and sparkly when exposed to sunlight. The commenters got into it, too. The best came from Delawhere16, who typed, "The NYPD is going to be so pissed when they realize it's part of True Blood's guerilla marketing campaign." As for the tag, it's "Vampire Crime of the Day." Perfect. No wonder I keep reading New York Magazine. Current Mood: Flippant |

SDCC Roommates needed As per usual I have a room with two queen sized beds for SDCC at the Holiday Inn Express downtown. I'll be there for the full four nights. There is a mini fridge in the room as well as a TV and free wireless internet, as well as free hot breakfast every morning, a pool, and a shuttle to the con right around the corner. Free shuttle from the airport as well. I'm will to put up to 5- 6 people in the room if all other parties are fine with it (I will be bringing a air mattress again) but at the moment I'm shooting for 4. Girls only, and over 18 only. Is anyone else interested? With 4 people in the room would be 190 dollars a person. I wouldn't expect any money until the con itself. If you are interested please let me know. :) |

A whole plethora of hypocrisy and fail wrapped up neatly with a bow I have Roman Catholic friends that I have a lot of respect for and they hold a variety of personal beliefs and values, but none are idiotic to the point of this (if they were they would not be my friends) - from the church itself... "Vatican ends "wall of silence" over child abuse scandal". Some of the attitudes expressed in this article, I must laugh at simply because the other option is banging my head against a wall. "In one case, the priest defended himself on the grounds that he sincerely believed it was not sinful for him to have sexual relations - provided it was not with a woman." Because, you know, women are totes the root of all evil and it's so much better and holier to molest defenseless children. I can understand this priest's confusion though, considering what sort of teachings and attitudes many Christian churches, Roman Catholic and otherwise, have regarding women in general. "He also gave numbers: during the past decade the Holy Office received details of 3,000 Catholic priests reported by their Bishops to Rome for sexual misconduct or, even worse, crimes. Sixty per cent of these cases involved homosexual acts, 30% related to heterosexual behaviour and only 10% - or 300 priests - were, he said, 'actual cases of paedophilia.'" The 60% vs 30% figure is particularly hilarious considering the R.C. Church's wholesale public condemnation of homosexuals. The fact that they chose, for decades, to protect child molesters and abusers (plenty of non-sexual abuse in Catholic schools went on as well apparently), frankly... well they get no sympathy from me in this ongoing scandal. Classic case of real sin (as opposed to the made-up kind like simply being born gay) coming home to roost. ( Pasted text of article for link-phobic, without my teal deer commentary ) Current Mood: oh, for fuck's sake. |

Comic-Con and the AHA This is hilarious. I hope Al Gore comes to the Futurama panel! (Oh jeez, I can't imagine what this is going to do to security.) News here and here. In short: the American Hospital Association is holding a leadership summit in San Diego. The same weekend as Comic-Con. Two blocks from the convention center. In a hotel that, up until yesterday, was on SDCC's official list of con hotels. Guests include Al Gore, Newt Gingrich, DeeDee Myers, Ken Burns and Freakonomics author Steven D. Levitt. (And speaking of SDCC hotels, is anyone else pacing back and forth, waiting for their confirmation email? Last year's booking sucked, but at least I knew by 10am. Submitted my list by 9:05, still haven't heard anything.) |

When you give a rocket scientist Photoshop... ...you get really cool stuff! There are more shades of awesome here than I can shake a stick at. Check out Expedition 16's Matrix-themed poster (huge pdf, takes awhile). For a quicker preview, Gizmondo has a good write-up. There's even a ST:XI themed poster in the comments. |

Great news: sexism no longer exists! A sockpuppet posts a screed to a Big Bang Theory community on LJ, sheldon_penny, about how the community is objectifying the poor, oppressed men by creating fanart and squeeing about the hotness of Sheldon and the actor who plays him, Jim Parsons. And how it's hypocritical for members to complain about the objectification of the character Penny in light of their objectification of Sheldon/Jim. Members reply "Um, no." Some members try to explain why women objectifying men (if such a thing is even happening at all) isn't quite the same thing as men objectifying women but the OP doesn't get it. Despite the sockpuppetry, the discussion is interesting, and for the most part, thoughtful. Until one of the few male members of the community, awmperry, jumps in and doesn't get it, claiming that sexism no longer exists. He continues to not get it. And not get it some more. A few members try to explain that he's derailing the conversation but he continues to not get it. He even goes so far as to claim that male circumcision is a practice that's as horrifying as female genital mutilation. But the ladies just don't understand! He has no male privilege in a community that's 99% women! He's being oppressed! And the male privilege checklist doesn't apply to him! He's special! In the end, he manages to hit almost every point on Derailing for Dummies. P.S. Thanks to the mousie who first posted this to wank_report. |

Make it a Blockbuster night? Might want to make it soon. Time to say goodnight to the Blockbuster night?I've heard from more person that game rentals are the only thing that have kept Blockbuster afloat for this long. Between Netflix, On-Demand PPV, and Redbox kiosks, Blockbuster's damn near obsolete in terms of watching the newest vid releases. I hope they can right the ship, if just to save what jobs are left in Blockbusterville. |

Encyclopedia Dramatica's owner could face charges in Australia. Link. The US-based owner of a satirical Wikipedia-style website may be charged under Australian law over a deliberately offensive article about Aborigines.
The Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission (HREOC) contacted Encyclopedia Dramatica owner Joseph Evers, after 20 indigenous Australians complained about the article's content.
Earlier this year the same article — which includes numerous offensive depictions of Aborigines — was removed from Google's search listings after a request from the Human Rights Commission. Joseph Evers' blog. For those unaware, Encyclopedia Dramatica has been in a lot of trouble in Australia lately. First ED was placed on the ACMA blacklist, a “secret” list of websites to be censored throughout Australia in their upcoming internet filter. After this list was leaked to the public, we all laughed about how we were put on a blacklist with “Wikipedia entries, euthanasia sites, websites of fringe religions, Christian sites, and even the websites of a tour operator and a Queensland dentist“. Meanwhile, Australia Communications Minister Stephen Conroy called for the arrests of Australians publishing the list.My take on this: ED is a pit of scum and villainy. I haven't read the article in question, but I do occasionally view ED, and if it's like the rest of the site I'm sure it is as offensive as possible. That's what happens when a bunch of trolls make a wiki. That doesn't mean that it should be censored, or that the main 'owner' (who didn't ever write that article) should be brought up on charges. If you are going to protect Free Speech then you have to protect speech you don't like. Don't like it? Fine. You are allowed to set up your own site to say why it is wrong. You are allowed to protest. You should not criminally charge someone for it! As for censoring the Internet... I don't even know where to start with that. Totalitarian states do that. China, Iran, North Korea etc. What does that make Australia? Hell, Australia is making porn of flat chested women illegal because they think it might encourage pedophilia. I really feel sorry for any man in Australia who likes small boobs on adult women, they might end up being labeled as pedophiles. I better stop before I start ranting. I'm just glad that I live in a country where Freedom of Speech is encoded into our constitution. ETA I just love how a lot of the comments here are about how mean ED is instead of the how terrible it is that an American in America with an American-based site may be charged in an Australian court with human rights violations because users of the site posted mean things. Way to keep your priorities straight. |

TV.com picks TV's "craziest fanbases"... For those who enjoy "mainstream-meets-fandom" type of events. Quote/link: It's difficult to say why, but some shows simply attract a different breed of supporters. Creepy, scary, insane supporters. And so we present TV's craziest fans, who've taken their love of TV to the next, sick level...this article is seriously stupid. Highlights include "omg somebody made a Hurley fanvid, how bizarre" (awesome fanvid, and I'm not even a Lost fan!), fanfiction trailers (I admit these are weird to me but only because the fics I've seen have such are usually unbearably shitty), Supernatural fanfic (Wincest & Dean/Castiel) and "Mad Men fans aren't crazy because they're pretentious and that show's overrated, wahhh". Looks like the guy writing this googled and youtube searched a few shows and found some pretty average fandom-created materials and decided to label them sick and insane and gross and weird. Yaaaawn. |

Help me, Fandom_Lounge! You're my only hope!
All right, so I have a vague recollection of a wank about EarthBound (Mother 2) some years back. Someone got real offended about the secret to beating Giygas and decided he had to let all of us know about it.
I've just spent the last few hours looking through Fandom Wank, Clairvoyant Wank, and I Wank, but I can't find it at all! Anyone know where or when it was? |
