So my mother informed me that my grandmother would drop dead if I didn't attend church with them this morning. And so I sat in a pew for an hour and a half, being strongly reminded of why I hate going to church.
First off was a lovely pamphlet stuck in the book holder on the evils of in vitro fertilization. Apparently it and surrogate motherhood are morally reprehensible because they are considered to be spiritual adultery and Against God's Will. And if you've already done it without considering these important things, you should visit your church and beg for forgiveness.

Then I discovered that we are all "Prayer Warriors" and we have a "Secret Weapon" against the number one enemy, Harry Potter sin. Can you guess what our secret weapon is?

Furthermore, apparently having strong ethics is not enough to be a good person. You need to have FAITH. And they're not going to tell you that you should tolerate other religions. Only the ones that believe what they believe. None of those crazy focus-on-morals/social issues namby-pamby sermons will be taking place at this church. They'll be talking about their Number One Enemy. Forever.
I don't know about you, but I feel uplifted.
Leaving MN tomorrow morning, will be packing up my life in London all this week.
Have applied to a forensic science program at UCF.

But most importantly, needed moar Romana. And a Brig cameo. UNIT without The Brig? Bad form, RTD.

| LJ stil not letting me post, thought I'd try the email-posting thingie. |

As many of you probably recall, tomorrow today yesterday is was my birthday. So in celebration I have had been plotting my own (smaller) version of Extermination by Chocolate.
And here's the result!

Terrifying, isn't he? Almost be sorry to eat him. Was not sorry at all
Also, it's GB Weekend. And y'all know what that means. Garage. Sales. Fabulous haul this yesterday Saturday morning, and boo didn't even have to borrow money from me.
Anyone want this half bowl of frosting I have left over?
ETA (as LJ will still not let me post this, WTF)
Awesome b-day haul. Jolene got me a Dalek shirt, boo and Steve got me Stranger than Fiction, and mom and dad got me the expansion for WoW, a prepaid game card, a Republicans for Voldemort T-shirt, and Supernatural season 1. Wendy gave me an awesome birthday phone call.
Cousin Jess and I are going to see PotC3 on Friday.
Girl-sprog was overly excited by the cookies used to decorate the mini Dalek. She grabbed a good third of the ho-ho used for his eye stalk before anyone noticed. The rest of the movie was spent by all ensuring she didn't sneak out to the dining room again. She was thrilled when we finally gave them to her. Though she insisted they were cupcakes.
ETA2
Seriously LJ, WTF.

Marj took a vote in our Anatomy lab group and forced me to go home. Dick even voted, though he's at the next table. I apparently look as sick as I feel.
Feel bad because Cam and Zeeshan weren't there to help with dissection.
Drinking delicious juice and then back to sleep.

The bus I was on rear-ended the car in front of us as I was on my way to my Neuroanatomy exam this morning. I'm okay. My shoulder was a bit sore, but it was the same one that I hurt when my chair fell apart on me so I disregarded it. It seems okay now.
Also, headachey and nauseous for the past two days. Oral Physiology can be blamed for the nausua, as I had to go over the notes on the physiology thereof for my exam tomorrow.
Today's exam was fine. Only worth 5% anyways. First down out of the four I have this week.
Won't be online much (if at all) til Thursday's over.

Midterm tomorrow, then I can relax for a bit. Review session in half an hour.
Nine has (finally) shown up on Heroes. He said "Fantastic". I died of glee. Plus, I've started catching up on How I Met Your Mother. It should be illegal for me to want to sex up a TV show. I managed to find the themesong on my own, without pestering Rinney, who is my go-to themesong girl.
Went to dinner for Zeeshan's birthday on Friday. Erin and I got there before anyone else. People being late for 1. Reservations and 2. a surprise dinner really pisses me off. (DUDE, FORTY MINUTES LATE). Then Saturday, I went to costco for the first time. And spent way more than I meant to. But I don't think I have to go shopping again for over a month, so it's all good. This was followed by movie night at Erin's, where I forced them to watch Jack of All Trades and Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Much laughter was had by all. I want to abduct Erin's breadmaker. Homemade bread=the win.
Boo, you need to be sending me pictures and movies of my nephew now. I am going through withdrawal. Or you can send me the real thing. I'll take good care of him for a couple of hours.

Laptop is in for repairs. ETA unknown. Keep your fingers crossed that I get it back before I head back to school on the 2nd.
Christmas haul was excellent. Got many books that I wanted, new jeans, Steveikins got me Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and boo got me a fraggle and Pinky and the Brain.
Much better results than the secret santa at school.

Snow day yesterday! Divine intervention FTW. Biochem exam, which I was most worried about, has been postponed.
Til JANUARY.
All I've got now is Practice Admin and Occlusion next week. Heading home on Wednesday. At last. Haven't been home since August.
malachony had her baby at 3:54 this morning. I'm an auntie (again). It's a boy, and last I'd heard hadn't been named. If anyone was online, I'd be hounding them for details. And pics. I really thought she'd hold out til I got home. Oh, well.

Passed Anatomy (high on the practical, mediocre on the written). Just finished Oral Med, which ROCKED.
2 Down, 3 to go. Biochem next (on Friday), which is going to be killer. I'm fretting. Review class at 11:30. If you see me online anytime in the near future, smack me.

I've started watching Bones while studying for my finals (Shut up, it completely helped with Anatomy).
In the pilot, there is one thing that bothered me. At the very beginning, Bones mentions that she's the only forensic anthropologist around, and the next closest is in Montreal.
My Physical Anthro prof back at YCP is a forensic anthropologist (though semi-retired) and is still called in on police cases. He was actually in this discovery channel thing on the Boston Strangler. But anyways, for those who don't know, YCP is about an hour and a half from DC.
I suppose you could argue that the show takes place in an alternate universe, in some sort of reality Limbo where all TV shows take place, and that my professor doesn't exist there and I shouldn't get all indignant on his behalf. However, if you extrapolate the approximate radius from DC to Montreal into a circle, it covers most of the east coast (excluding Florida and the upper part of Maine) and extends west out as far as Indiana. Are we supposed to believe that there's not a single forensic anthropologist in that entire area? I call BS, Bones writers.
Back to Oral Medicine.

Modem down again this morning, and they aren't able to send a guy out til Wednesday.
Keep your fingers crossed that it keeps randomly returning to functional each evening for the duration, eh?

|
|
[21 Sep 2006|12:34pm] |
Alas, my modem was non-functional this morning when I woke up. I tried all the stuff in the manual. Hopefully it will be back to normal when I get home this evening? If not, glad only knows when they'll be able to get me a repair guy.
I've barely had it a WEEK. Bad intrawebs!
ETA: Upon arrival home, modem was functioning again. Why was it being contrary this morning? I guess we'll never know.

| Rodents of Unusual Size? I don't think they exist. |
[20 Sep 2006|03:32pm] |

In anatomy we're working with bone development. Professor mentions that in rats and guinea pigs, the growth plate doesn't fuse. So they can get mad large. She said it wasn't uncommon to find one the size of a small dog.

| YARRRR! |
[19 Sep 2006|03:59pm] |
Fortuitously, on ITLAPD, my Dental Biochem professor asks us about scurvy. More specifically, what group of persons typically GETS scurvy.
Naturally, I responded with "Pirates!"
Big laughs, mateys.
I'm loving Dental school. Welcome to the profession semi-formal dinner tomorrow night. Yesterday worked on a wax model of the right maxillary central incisor, need to finish that on Friday. Got to drill circles and squares in plastic teeth last Thursday, and this week we're actually doing cavity preps. Not on real people though (til 3rd year). I <3 my slow speed handpiece.
UWODSS annual softball tournament was on Saturday. We were soundly trounced by the other years, though we only lost our last game by 1 point. I actually made a run, and caught someone's hit getting them out. Furthermore, I only struck out once and that was due to quality of pitches, not lack of madskillz (Tournament rules were only three pitches per at bat, no matter how crappy the throw).
No pictures will be forthcoming until Rinney goes to the doctor.

London's going well, I had orientation yesterday plus the white coat ceremony. Got my dental kit. Don't know how I'll ever memorize the name of all those tools. Tomorrow have a basic life support class. Various orientation and getting to know classmates things all week til classes start on wednesday.
Won't have intrawebs til the 12th, so have been making judicious use of the comp labs. Despite the pouring rain. Canadian TV confuses me, but I suppose I'll figure out how it corresponds to US TV eventually.
But wtf is up with the hideous navigation strip popping up everywhere again? I thought I had clicked "I never want to see that thing again" or something like that.
