Picked this up from Box Turtle Bulletin; they speak with an Ex-Gay Watch representative, and it's well worth listening to. I literally cannot speak, I'm so offended.

You can see all four cartoons here. The blog GoodAsYou gets their rage on as well.

This the the kind of rhetoric a so-called "legitimate" organization like the Traditional Values Coalition is using to fight the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. People in a position of power are supposed to take them seriously while they produce this utterly offensive claptrap. When they photoshop babies in with men in the perfectly legitimate job of male erotic dancers.

It's just ridiculous.

To further make it worse, one would think an organization like National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality would at least understand the sensitivity of using such a word, when they claim to want to rehabilitate homosexuals.

"Many individuals who consider themselves transgendered, undergo only partial surgeries or hormone treatments and identify as She/Males. Numbers of these individuals become part of the online pornography industry. Sexually explicit She/Male sites number in the hundreds online." Genderqueers: Lesbians Living Between Genders.

No. Just...no.

This isn't rhetoric, this isn't intelligent discussion. I don't even think there's a shred of intelligence in any of these comics. Just the drunk monkey at a computer. I want to say something witty, something light to defuse the pure offense, but there's nothing. This is so utterly repulsive that it chokes off any response but rage.

Someone give me a baby, that I may punch it.

I'm getting really fucking tired of crackpots like that trying to make out anti-discrimination legislation as being something wrong, indecent, and something that would inconvenience them so much. The words "special rights" come to mind. It's not "special rights" to prohibit discrimination based on race, religion, or age, so WHY THE FUCK IS IT DIFFERENT FOR GAY AND TRANSGENDERED FOLKS? The cartoon you posted especially enrages me, because transgender folks don't demand separate facilities- chances are, they have had even simple things like which bathroom to use worked out for a long time. And notice the implication in the cartoon that gay/trans = pedophile.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH.

Also, since when did "homosexual", "pansexual", "cross-dresser" and "drag queen" become genders?

No idea. That's one of the most boggling things about this.

Yet another example of the total ignorance of people spreading that kind of bullshit. They especially seem to be hating on transgender folk without really understanding what their wants and needs are.

Me too. *sigh* There was a brouhaha here in Cincinnati a few years ago when there was a vote up to repeal Article Twelve (which allowed job and housing discrimination based on sexuality and I assume gender identity as well), because so many people were opposed to repealing it. There were even commercials where a black man who was active in the civil rights movement was spouting lines like "I've fought all my life for equal rights, and I will not fight to repeal article 12, because it's asking for special rights." It makes my skin crawl that someone who's faced discrimination based on something they can't control could turn around and advocate an equally bad (if not worse) kind of discrimination. There is no real reason sexuality/gender identity discrimination should NOT be outlawed, it's mostly just the religious right bleating about how TEH BIBEL SEZ ITS WRONG SO IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL TOO. My icon sums up my feelings on that bit.
