Possible wedding locations

Here at last are my husband's pictures of possible wedding locations.

We're sending brochures and stuff to daughter #2, aka the Glow-in-the-Dark kid so that she and her fiance can start making some decisions. More as it unfolds.

I really should create a wedding icon...

Happy Birthday!

To my darling Rini-Roo,

I hope today fulfills its promise, is full of joy and brings you a smile whenever you look back on it. Happy Birthday to one of the most positive, cheerful, upbeat people I know.

*hugs tight*

Vacations are a lot of fun!

I returned on Saturday from a wonderful vacation in Europe. It was so nice to get away from work for a few weeks and just unwind for awhile!! Here are some random thoughts in no particular order:

1. If you want a tiny glimpse of a place, cruises are a great way to go. They're like a scouting expedition to places I'd like to explore further.

2. Having a Pizza Hut across the parking lot from the Sphinx really ruined the ambiance for me.

3. I had no idea water could be that clear. Okay, we're leaving tap and bottled water out of it. *g* The Mediterranean really is THAT blue.

4. I think I beat at least 50% of the postcards back. As I understand it, the ones I sent from Egypt might arrive at their intended destinations between now and Christmas. I'm guessing that was an exaggeration on the part of our guide. *crosses fingers*

5. I would love to spend a week in Amalfi, then another week in Rhodes and then spend some time on Corfu.

6. Pompeii and Ephesus are simply amazing places. I think the Romans invented fast food a few hundred years BC. We're also convinced that the discovery of the tomato is the reason for the decline of western civilization. It made sense at the time.

7. Ethan Hawke is a lovely man.

8. SPF 100+ really works!!!

9. Lottie is an adventure!

10. As much as I love to travel, it's very nice to be home.

Technical Glitch

Apparently the DSL line at the house is down. Hubby's on the phone with Earthlink, who has a stellar customer disservice department, so I'm not holding out much hope.

It could be a very long, boring weekend.

And JF is being robust.

Friday Five

If I were recasting Cat on a Hot Tin Roof I'd cast Brad and Angie as Brick and Maggie, Robert Redford as Big Daddy, Ethan as Gooper and Katherine Heigl as his ladder-climbing wife (but I'd make her the daughter instead of the daughter-in-law). I have trouble seeing Robert Redford in the Big Daddy role, except he'd be the perfect guy to play Brad's father, and I like how the two of them work together.

And set it about 20 years ago.

Would anyone like a postcard?

The vacation we've been planning for over a year will start in just over two weeks and I can hardly wait! We're flying to Rome, then cruising (via Royal Caribbean) to Naples, Athens, Mykonos, Rhodes, Kusadasi (Turkey), Alexandria (Egypt), and Corfu before heading back to Rome. After the cruise, we're spending a couple of days in London at Chez Lottie (5 star accommodations, let me assure you!) before flying back to the US on Saturday.

If you'd like a postcard from the eastern part of the Mediterranean, please leave me your name, your journal name and full mailing address and I'll send you something picturesque. Comments are screened, but you're also welcome to email me the same information at jeshakeoma [at] gmail [dot] com.

*hugs to all that want 'em*

What the decision actually says

"Proposition 8 reasonably must be interpreted in a limited fashion as eliminating only the right of same-sex couples to equal access to the designation of marriage, and as not otherwise affecting the constitutional right of those couples to establish an officially recognized family relationship."

The CA Supreme Court took 185 pages to strike down a word? Can we call it 'marriage' for the straight couples and 'mawwiage' for the gay couples (Think Princess Bride)? 'Mawwiage is what brings us together today'.

I am not for one second saying this decision doesn't stink to high heaven. It does. Justice Moreno is the only one who got it right. Vested rights should never be up for a vote. Not ever. The Court should have stopped this travesty in its tracks, found a loophole, a technicality (they're lawyers) that would have kept this issue off the ballot. But at the heart of it, we lost a word yesterday, albeit a very, very important one.

California has become a cesspool of special interests and budget stalemates. The people demanded the power to run the state, and are refusing to take up the reins. We desperately need men and women of courage to call for a Constitutional Convention so we can scrap this abomination and start over. Sadly, I think they've all moved to Iowa.

Just a sparkle text test

I would really like a license plate bracket that says "The Twilight Sparkledammerung".

Cafe Press needs to make those.

The High School Senior Year Meme

I saw this on the Fandom Lounge friend's list (in [info]missm's journal, whom I don't know). It amused me so I took it. If you play along, will you please drop a comment below so I can see your answers?

Where's the Grammar Police When You Need Them?

It seems apostrophes aren't popular in Birmingham, England (which, for those of you who don't know, is in the U.K.). I'm not sure why I worry about whether I've spelt 'neighbour' correctly when the good people of Birmingham can't go to the chip's and pea's [sic] shop on Kings Heath because "apostrophes are confusing and old-fashioned".

Truth is definitely stranger than fiction!

Yeah, I had to throw that [sic] in there lest people think I don't know what that delightful ' is for. For the record, I LOVE apostrophes and hate seeing them abused.

Per the US Postal Service, "England" is not a place.

And it's not even cold!

I wish I'd worn socks under my boots. My feet are freezing. Time to consider innovative solutions, such as setting fire to the stacks of paper under my desk.

Note to self: Must remove scotch first.

From Wivern

So I took the quiz. *G*

Which creature of the night are you?
Your Result: Cthulu Spawn

You are really an alien thing, aren't you? I can't describe you because you are beyond. We say "left field" and you say "Krn Grth Thchrang." You are the wild card of the bunch, the unknown quantity

Demon

Werewolf

The amusing part is that just yesterday, a group of colleagues were talking about personalities and characteristics in the zodiacal sense, and I said that I'm the unknown quantity, and left them to figure it out. Little did I know how right I was!

Smoke and Ash

There's a fire about ten miles east of here and the winds have been blowing since yesterday. We're not in any danger from the flames, but the smoke and ash are clogging our sinuses and are a bit headache inducing.

Here are some pictures of the smoke from our front and back porch.

Election Day 2008

I voted oval

I turned in my daughter's absentee ballot because she's been cooped up on an aircraft carrier (CVN-69 USS Eisenhower, if anybody's interested *g*) and just got back into port on Thursday. I explained to the poll worker what was going on and it turned out that her son used to be stationed aboard the same ship. She was so excited to talk about him that she forgot I needed to vote, too!! *g* Another polling place worker was in the fifth class of women to attend West Point, so it was a unique bonding moment for me.

I voted for Obama/Biden and against Proposition 8. There were tears. This election matters SO MUCH!!

Even if you don't agree with my politics, please vote. The US asks so little of us as citizens that it really is the least we can do.

FF 3 and JF

For all of you JF/computer literate folks out there...

I "upgraded" to FF 3.0.3 and now I remember why I should have stuck with 2.?.17. In this browser, my journal entries have shifted to the left side of the page instead of staying on the right where they belong. I have beautiful wallpaper for my journal, compliments of Fiercy, and I'd really like the page to look the way she intended it to be. I know nothing about page set-ups or tweaking or anything like that, but if someone is willing to guide me through it, I'm willing to take a shot at it.

Help?

Many, many thanks in advance!
