I just watched the first episode of TRON: Uprising and I have to say, Disney has an interesting show on their hands!
( Cut for one minor spoiler )
In other news, the Zumba fun continues in full force! I went to another class tonight with a different instructor-- new-ish guy who's only been teaching for a year, but he's great. And I might have a ridiculous crush on him or something WHAT WHO SAID THAT LIES AND SLANDER. Anyway, I'd mentioned to him in a Facebook message that I was working on some new Zumba choreography and he suggested I demonstrate it for him during class this week. So before class he put on the song that I'm using and I started my routine, and then after a few second he jumped in with me and was dancing to my choreo with me. HOW ABOUT YES.

I don't remember if I've posted about this video before. If I have, too bad! If not, then here we go!
Today's squeeing fangirl post is about Destino. It's a short film that started in the 40s as a collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador Dali. You can go to Wikipedia to read more about it, I guess, but the important thing is this link to a high-def upload of Destino on Youtube.
Go. Watch it in fullscreen mode with the volume cranked up. Thank me later.

Or 11/11/11, or 11-11-11. Either way, it'll be a century before that'll ever happen again, so yes, I am posting this random-ass entry to commemorate that.

The Lion King 3D!!!!!

Just got back from seeing The Lion King in 3D, up at the El Capitan theater in Hollywood. My reaction can be summed up as

OH MY GOD ILU DISNEY YOU ARE THE BEST
I mean, The Lion King is already one of their best movies. The animation is just stunning, the songs are great, the characters are great. But to see it again on the big screen, for the first time in 17 years? And in gorgeous 3D? Truly an amazing experience. MY CHILDHOOD ON THE BIG SCREEN. And yes, in fact, I did get choked up during "The Circle of Life".
It was a pretty small crowd, mostly adults-- people my age who grew up with it, most likely. And you know that scene in the elephant graveyard where Mufasa beats up the hyenas and is like, "If you EVER go near my son again..." and the two hyenas are like, "OH THAT'S YOUR SON??? WE HAD NO IDEA!! I had no idea, did you?" "No, I had no idea! Did you know, Ed?" And then Ed just nods cheerfully? One lady in the theater just lost her shit at that part, laughing hysterically. It was great.
Disney, please do Aladdin next. I would like to see Aladdin in big-screen 3D. Thank you.

TO DEFEAT...
THE HUNS!
LOLOL this song. THIS SONG. I just. XD
Every time I hear or see "Let's get down to business", my brain automatically adds "To defeat! The huns!" after it. EVERY TIME. And my friends back in college would spontaneously start singing it in the dining hall. One person would start and then they'd all join in. It was epic.

My latest art thing: I drew an OC who is not connected to ATLA! This time, I drew a character from my days of dabbling as a sci-fi writer.
Flist, meet Falcon. :D
In terms of style, I think this is the best picture I've drawn so far. :')

Have you guys seen that "I Write Like..." thing? I put in some text from Chapter 5 of CST (which is coming as soon as my other beta gets back to me) and look what I got:
Sweet. ^_^
EDIT: Oh LOL. I put my Kataang-age-gap rant through it and got this:
EDIT THE SECOND: Damn, this is way too much fun. ( Read more... )

So I just got back from seeing the remake of "The Karate Kid". To be fair, I've never seen the original. Yes, shame on me, I know. But! The remake? Is FANTASTIC. I loved it. Seriously, go see it if you get a chance, it's wonderful. Jackie Chan is excellent in it, as is wee little Jaden Smith (who is so damn cute OMG I want to hug him).

It's here on dA. It's very complete, appears to be accurate, and is somewhat easier to read (in the full-view) than the one on the Wiki, although the Wiki map has the obvious advantage of handy links to each location's page.

Recommending Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name for anyone who hasn't read it. I'm always late to the party on cool webcomics, so everyone but me has probably read it already, but I'm linking it anyway. It's about a paranormal investigator. Named Hanna, even though he's a guy. His colleague is a zombie. Hilarious shenanigans ensue.
In other news, I still haven't heard from my beta about Chapter 3. >:( Getting impatient, but I feel bad for being impatient because she's a really good beta, she's just very busy right now. Gnrrr.

I have here two fantastic covers of the theme from "Pirates of the Caribbean".
The rock version. The most bad-ass cover of this theme ever played, quite possibly.
The acoustic version. Just really good.

Something lulzy and something ragey

When I'm procrastinating, there are certain Livejournal communities I lurk on to get my daily dose of lulz and/or rage. Today's LOL-buffet: booju_newju, a parenting debate community. The place is always rife with tasty, tasty drama. The whole point of the community is to post hypothetical scenarios about parenting dilemmas, which often leads to the posters tearing each other apart like Roman gladiators with baby bottles.
A recent post, based on a tv show, asked what members would do if their young kid had a playmate whose parent had tried (without success) to seduce your spouse. Someone in one thread used the phrase "slutty whore" to describe the tv character who'd done the attempted seducing. Cue argument, with some posters trying to explain why gendered insults are bad and other posters Not Getting It and insisting that the former group of posters believe that women can never do anything wrong.
The argument produced this exchange: thexphial-- ""Trashy" is a gender-neutral term, "slutty whore" is nearly exclusively applied to women. They are not the same."
killtheelite-- "Ok...but we are talking about a woman. So why does it have to be a gender-neutral term?"
I literally facepalmed IRL. That right there is the very definition of Not Getting It.
But enough rage! Have some funny: I present to you GanXingba, creator of the hilarious "Avatar: The Abridged Series". Here's the first abridged episode. This guy's brilliant. He has 10 episodes of the abridged series thus far, covering most of Book 1, plus other ATLA parody vids, and they're all funny. I highly recommend Haru's Beauty Products.

I just downloaded the Lion King OST, hoping that listening to it would get me unstuck on Chapter 3. The plot of CST was largely inspired by The Lion King, so I figured I should go back to the source for more inspiration.
First of all, it's working fabulously. X3 Slowly becoming unstuck, hooray!
Second of all, OMG I'D FORGOTTEN HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS OST <3 <3 <3 <3 OMG. I JUST LISTENED TO "THE CIRCLE OF LIFE" THREE TIMES IN A ROW AND I'LL PROBABLY LISTEN TO IT AT LEAST ONCE MORE BEFORE MOVING ON TO THE NEXT TRACK. Dude, I haven't listened to this soundtrack in aaaaaages! *hearts forever*

Ore by Royal Flush Short A King. It's a Sokka/OC and the summary in the prologue is kinda cringeworthy, but from the two chapters posted so far, I think it has potential. The OCs seem pretty solid at this point-- we see the female OC in Firebending training in Chapter 1, and she's good but not flawless. Her technique is fairly sloppy and she has a mentor who criticizes her fairly, neither worshiping the ground she walks on nor tearing her down with unreasonable harshness.

A few weeks ago, I joined a deviantART club for ATLA OCs and submitted my sketch of Zafi and Basam to the club's gallery. I logged into my dA account just now to check my messages, and discovered that one of the members had done a group fanart featuring one OC from each of the members who have contributed to the gallery. Guess who's standing in the middle of the group, looking all sassy-like. :DDDDD
I know it's a group pic and not fanart of CST in particular, but still! There is fanart of Zafirah! ^_^ She's just fantastically drawn in this pic! Her body language expresses her personality perfectly. There's some inaccuracies, which is understandable, since the artist was working from an uncolored pencil sketch (I really need to color that sketch, jeez). Her skin/clothing color would be more like this. But hey, I ain't complaining! They drew Zafi, and they did a damn good job! *is filled with warm fuzzy feelings*
EDIT: Also, I'm somewhat amused by the contrast in outfits between everyone else's OCs and mine. The other girls have these very pretty, very "feminine" outfits... and then there's Zafi with her rags. Hee!

According to avatarspirit.net, James Newton Howard is composing the score for The Last Failbender. :O I must admit, the movie has finally managed to impress me. Even if I never see the film, I'll most likely be getting the soundtrack because I'm sure it's going to be lovely.
