Wow, I don't come here as often as I used to. Sad.
So what's new, guys? Is anyone still here or has everyone migrated to Tumblr and the like?
I've been in Florida for the past year and a half, learning Zumba and being mistreated by an elderly relative. Luckily, the latter is ending next week. The former will continue FOREEEEVERRRRR (or until my knees give out, hahaaaaaa).
Also, have y'all heard of this iOS game called Cause of Death? It's literally the best thing ever. It's only available on iOS devices, currently (though IDK why, it's from EA and you'd think they would want all the extra $$$ they'd rake in if it was available on Android and the like). I have a lengthy meta post worked up about why this game is the best ever. Needs editing before I post it, but then you shall see. You shall SEEEEEE! And then all y'all with iOS thingies will be rushing to snag it from the apps store.
So... how many of you saw Jurassic Park in 3D? I did! In IMAX 3D, no less. It was the greatest thing I have ever watched, srsly.
Anyway... yeah. It's good to be back, JF!

So like, way back in Chapter Four or Five of CST, I had Kuei and Zafirah and Basam go sandsurfing out in the desert. And just now via Tumblr, I find out that sandboarding is an actual thing people do??
Also: tonight, I took a Zumba class with BETO FRAKKING PEREZ, the creator of Zumba Fitness! He hugged me! ZOMG.

So I just got back from seeing Argo and it was an amazing movie, totally lived up to the hype, etc etc. But let's think about what really matters here. Imagine being the person who wrote the screenplay that the CIA used IRL. You're all "OMG yay my precious screenplay is finally getting its time in the spotlight! My dream has come true~~~" and then, shortly later, the project falls through. And then years later, you find out that THE C-I-FREAKING-A was using your screenplay to smuggle stranded diplomats out of Iran in the middle of a hostage crisis.

Okay so, back when I was a wee little tween, the Gameboy Color came out and I persuaded my parents to get me one. And the first game I got was Pokemon Red. I loved that game but I could never figure out how to beat it. And last weekend, I discovered a website where I could play the old Pokemon games online. I think you can see where this is going. And since my JF has been pretty inactive lately, I figured I'd put this here blog to good use while reliving my middle school days.

It seems to me that Zutara shippers have this thing for making Katara subordinate to Zuko. They seem to enjoy putting him in a position of power over her and it creeps me right the hell out. Actually, it's not just Katara. I've seen tons of Zuko/OC fics where he is again put in a position of power over his love interest.
But seriously, these tropes comprise at least 70% of all the Zutara fics I see on FFn. Katara is Zuko's prisoner, she's his hostage, she's his servant, she's his slave, she's his concubine. He captures her during the course of the series, someone else captures her and gives her to him as a prize/reward. There are AUs where Katara was raised as a servant in the Fire Nation royal palace. There are AUs where he's an Arabian prince and she is his concubine... again. There are AUs where he buys her as a slave for one reason or another.
....You get the picture. And most if not all of these tropes apply to Zuko/OC fics as well. I know that we're not supposed to judge people's fictional interests and Your Kink Is Not My Kink and all, but you know what? This trend creeps me out. It is creepy to me. I find it gross. It's especially creepy, given Katara's canon personality of being strong and independent: it carries some very Unfortunate Implications when these fans are pushing her into the traditional gender role of female=subordinate to male.
If that means I'm judging someone or not being open-minded enough, then LOLOLOL OH WELL.

So, flist, have you ever heard of Capalert.com? Basically, it's a movie review website for Christian fundies who don't want their children exposed to ~ungodly~ movies, so they review all the new releases and analyze all the ways in which they are ~sinful and unholy~. It's kind of hilarious. But that's not the point. The point is their review of Dead Man's Chest. Specifically, this line from their plot summary:

So yeah... basically, I never outgrew being a horse-crazy little girl. And Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is one of my all-time favorite movies. I know it didn't do very well when it came out, but I adore it. I think it's a highly underrated animated movie.

So for the last day or so, Firefox has been badgering me to upgrade to their latest version. Today I finally got off my lazy ass and did the upgrade, restarted and all. The new version has a slightly different layout for the top of the window, where it keeps your tabs and everything. Only I've just spotted a flaw with this: I keep my iTunes player window thingy in the upper righthand corner of the screen, okay, because that's where it's the most convenient. And I have it set so it's always on top of whichever window I have open. That way I can pause/skip songs while working on Word or the GIMP or whatever without having to click back and forth between applications. But now, with the new layout in Firefox... I can't see some of my tabs when the player window is there. >:-[ *whine*

So yeah, I've just re-rediscovered my love of Firefly. :D Such a great showwwwww!
Mal/Inara = OMG just shut up and kiss already!
Simon/Kaylee = LOLOL Simon why are you so terrible at talking to women!
Wash/Zoe = Pretty much the greatest thing ever.
And of course, the true OTP of Firefly... Jayne/Vera. She's his very favorite gun!

Yes, after months and months of resisting... I finally caved and did it. I downloaded "Bad Romance" and am adding it to my iTunes as we speak. I COULDN'T HELP IT, IT'S A CATCHY SONG OKAY! And the music video is very hypnotic, if a little disturbing. I'm beginning to see why she's so popular. I MIGHT EVEN GO AND DOWNLOAD MOAR LADY GAGA SONGS. I DON'T KNOW.

I was browsing the tron_slash comm on LJ just now, and as I was scrolling past the entry for a Kevin Flynn/Sam Flynn fic, I saw this in the summary above the LJ cut:
Warnings: Flynncest, spanking, rimming and cum eating
Disclaimer: If I owned Tron: Legacy, this would have gone into the movie.
I'm always sort of amused in a scared way when I see disclaimers like that on really disturbing/just plain bad fanfics. "If I owned this series/book/movie, this would totally have happened!!!" It always sounds vaguely like a threat. :P

Well, someone sure is pissed about his inability to get laid. Hey bro, quick suggestion: quit being an asswipe and start respecting women, and maybe you'll actually get some sex once in a while.
Summary for the link-aversive: someone on Tumblr posts a quote that is a fantastic explanation of rape culture and why the phrase "boys will be boys" is so dangerous. Some douchebag gets all whiny and shouty and says stupid crap like "I’m not saying that anyone should accept unwanted sexual attention, because WHY THE FUCK WOULD SOMEONE NOT WANT SEXUAL ATTENTION?" and "These things we do “all in good fun,” bra-snapping, assgrabbing, catcalling, boob grabbing, dick flashing…..Maybe girls should start joining us in it, instead of doing the best they can to make whats under their clothing THE MOST IMPOSSIBLE THING TO ACQUIRE, AND BIGGEST, LITERALLY NEVER ENDING QUEST OF ANYONE’S ENTIRE LIVES."
