What's new, JF? May. 9th, 2013 @ 09:03 pm
Wow, I don't come here as often as I used to. Sad.

So what's new, guys? Is anyone still here or has everyone migrated to Tumblr and the like?

I've been in Florida for the past year and a half, learning Zumba and being mistreated by an elderly relative. Luckily, the latter is ending next week. The former will continue FOREEEEVERRRRR (or until my knees give out, hahaaaaaa).

Also, have y'all heard of this iOS game called Cause of Death? It's literally the best thing ever. It's only available on iOS devices, currently (though IDK why, it's from EA and you'd think they would want all the extra $$$ they'd rake in if it was available on Android and the like). I have a lengthy meta post worked up about why this game is the best ever. Needs editing before I post it, but then you shall see. You shall SEEEEEE! And then all y'all with iOS thingies will be rushing to snag it from the apps store.

So... how many of you saw Jurassic Park in 3D? I did! In IMAX 3D, no less. It was the greatest thing I have ever watched, srsly.

Anyway... yeah. It's good to be back, JF!
Where am I? D:: pensive

Art imitating life, or some such thing Mar. 14th, 2013 @ 01:14 am
So like, way back in Chapter Four or Five of CST, I had Kuei and Zafirah and Basam go sandsurfing out in the desert. And just now via Tumblr, I find out that sandboarding is an actual thing people do??

Also: tonight, I took a Zumba class with BETO FRAKKING PEREZ, the creator of Zumba Fitness! He hugged me! ZOMG.

"Ar-go f*ck yourself!" Oct. 19th, 2012 @ 11:35 pm
So I just got back from seeing Argo and it was an amazing movie, totally lived up to the hype, etc etc. But let's think about what really matters here. Imagine being the person who wrote the screenplay that the CIA used IRL. You're all "OMG yay my precious screenplay is finally getting its time in the spotlight! My dream has come true~~~" and then, shortly later, the project falls through. And then years later, you find out that THE C-I-FREAKING-A was using your screenplay to smuggle stranded diplomats out of Iran in the middle of a hostage crisis.

Fun With Fishes Sep. 1st, 2012 @ 02:41 pm
So this isn't a fanfic update, as it ought to be, but rather a story of something very unusual that happened at the beach yesterday.

I was hanging out in the shallows and I noticed a school of tiny silver fish swimming nearby. I squatted down to try and get them to swim over to me, but they didn't-- all except for one. I looked down and saw a darker-colored fish swimming in front of my navel. I put my hand down to see if I could bring it up closer, to get a better look at it, but it disappeared. I thought it had gone, but then it appeared again and I realized it had gone behind me. I stood up and it stayed right next to me, swimming next to my legs. Sometimes it would dart around behind me or between my legs, but it never swam away. If I moved, it moved with me. It must've stayed there for aout 20 minutes, and it probably would have stuck around longer if I hadn't needed to leave.

I have no idea why it was doing that, but I've never seen anything like it before. Farewell, tiny fish, I hope you have a good life!

WELL WELL WELL! May. 16th, 2012 @ 10:05 pm
I just watched the first episode of TRON: Uprising and I have to say, Disney has an interesting show on their hands!

Cut for one minor spoiler )

In other news, the Zumba fun continues in full force! I went to another class tonight with a different instructor-- new-ish guy who's only been teaching for a year, but he's great. And I might have a ridiculous crush on him or something WHAT WHO SAID THAT LIES AND SLANDER. Anyway, I'd mentioned to him in a Facebook message that I was working on some new Zumba choreography and he suggested I demonstrate it for him during class this week. So before class he put on the song that I'm using and I started my routine, and then after a few second he jumped in with me and was dancing to my choreo with me. HOW ABOUT YES.

Life is pretty damn good right now Mar. 17th, 2012 @ 07:54 pm
Yes, today was pretty much a flawless victory all around. I did TWO Zumba masterclasses. That's two hour-and-a-half classes, although the second was closer to two hours long, so I was basically dancing all day long.

Dancin' my ass off Feb. 6th, 2012 @ 01:26 pm
Oh man, today's Zumba class was amaaaazing. Ailton, our instructor, was like extra crazycakes today, I don't even know, and I was ON FIRE, srsly, I was so on my game today. And towards the end of the class, Ailton was like, "Okay, last one!" And whenever he says "last one" or "one more", what he actually means is, "Three more, plus cool-down LOLOLZ".

AND ALSOOOO WE DID THIS SONG. And that was super exciting because "Caipirinha" is the Zumba song. It was the official song of the 2010 Zumba Instructor Convention. So getting to dance to it in class, OMG DYING I JUST CANNOT I've been wanting to do that song in class for about two months. Look, look at this, here is a video of Ailton and a bunch of other amazing people demonstrating the Caipirinha choreography back when the song was brand spankin' new. (Haha, I almost didn't even see him in that one. I was like, "Wait, where the hell is he??" He's in the front left; I didn't recognize him at first because a) his hair was longer when this video was made, and b) he's wearing long sleeves. He never wears long sleeves in our class!) Here he is with some random loser (LOL kidding, kidding, Fabio Barros is frakking epic) co-teaching the song in a masterclass.

AND THAT'S THE SONG WE DID IN CLASS TODAY ASNFDNVKBV/cskvlw wow.

ZUMBAAAAaaaaaa Jan. 30th, 2012 @ 11:35 am
So yeah I haven't posted much lately because my life has been kind of complicated lately, so y'all haven't really heard much about my Zumba adventures. I posted about it last month when I was wibbling over my not-so-secret-anymore secret desire to become a Zumba instructor. Which, by the way, no longer conflicted about that. Kick reason to the curb and do the impossible, row row fight da powah etc, LET'S DO THIS I am totally getting certified as a Zumba instructor. Not sure when, but it is so happening. I've already choreographed my first routine, even (keep an eye out for a video of that coming soonish).

But yes, I feel like rambling about Zumba this morning, because today was a big day in class. Because

today

I was dancing

AT THE FRONT OF THE CLASS

RIGHT UP IN THE FRONT ROW

JUST BEHIND AND TO THE RIGHT OF OUR INSTRUCTOR/FEARLESS LEADER, AILTON ANDRADE

DBSF;ejv ewDSHJFGDj;vbd OMG

Because when the class started there were only like five people there including me, and there was only one other regular there, so the other three were all too intimidated to dance in the front row, so I stepped up and went to the front. Then when other people started arriving late I was like, "Pfffft fuck dat I am not giving up my spot, hell no" so I stayed at the front THE ENTIRE HOUR and it was amazing.

OMG HALP SOMEONE STOP ME Dec. 19th, 2011 @ 02:53 pm
So.

I think I've found my dream job.

But it's not what I went to college for.

Cut because I feel a long, rambling confession coming on )

I hate everything. Jun. 20th, 2011 @ 12:35 pm
So I finally finished my TEFL course as mentioned as this entry, and I had my application all ready to submit to the Gone2Korea recruiting guy, who would then forward it to the Korean school recruiters. I was all optimistic for once, and oh so excited. I just needed to call him and ask a quick question about something.

And then he tells me that the application filing period closed on June 1st. AND NO ONE EVER FUCKING TOLD ME. NO ONE EVEN REMOTELY MENTIONED ANYTHING LIKE A JUNE 1ST APPLICATION FILING DEADLINE. NOT ONCE. NOT EVER. NOT EVEN A LITTLE. I HAD NO FUCKING CLUE THAT THERE WAS A JUNE 1ST DEADLINE AND I WON'T HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE TO APPLY UNTIL OCTOBER. Oh, and I'll probably also need to order another $18 FBI background check because the one I ordered three weeks ago (which hasn't arrived yet) will probably have expired by then LOLOLOLOLOL.

The world is endiiinnnggg~ May. 21st, 2011 @ 10:12 am
So hey, the world is supposedly ending today! :D I was just reading an article in the paper about Harold Camping, the man behind all this. There's a quote where he talks about being besieged, and he says, "I'm public enemy No. 1 right now in the whole world." Really, Mr. Camping? The whole world? That's an... amusing claim. Public joke No. 1 in the American media, maybe, but that title might actually go to Newt Gingrich, he of the Cheating For America bullshit.

It's the little things in life... Apr. 10th, 2011 @ 02:28 pm

Old vs New Feb. 25th, 2011 @ 03:29 pm
So yeah I think I forgot to mention this (LOL) but I got a new Macbook a few weeks ago! :DDD It's so shiny and pretty. And since I finally got off my lazy ass to take photos of my old iBook so I can sell it on Craigslist, I thought I'd take a photo of the two laptops side by side.

Watch this video plz Dec. 23rd, 2010 @ 11:35 am
So today I did something I never thought I'd do-- I voluntarily visited the website funnyordie.com. Why? Because, drumroll please... the pilot episode of my Dad's animated series is currently one of their featured videos!

Yes, that's right. My Dad and his former writing partner (it's a long story) are currently working on an animated series called "Teen Jesus". As Dad puts it, "It's not a show about Jesus as a teenager. It's a show about a teenager who just happens to be the son of God." It portrays Jesus as a normal kid, with normal friends who are always bugging him to do his water-into-wine trick so they can get drunk. And then Jesus is all "B-but my Dad's special powers! D:"

Style-wise, it's kind of like South Park, I guess. But it's not as offensive as it could have been. There's a few cringe-worthy things, like the gay-stereotype character and the "black guys have hyoooge penises lol" joke, but other than that, it's actually a lot funnier than I thought it would be.

Anyway, Dad is hoping that if the first couple episodes do well enough online, it'll get noticed by a network somewhere and picked up as an ongoing series. And that will be very good for me and my family. So please go and watch it, and send it to other people if you feel so inclined. Also, you can vote "Funny" or "Die" on it with the buttons beneath the video. Plz to be voting "Funny".

Here it is, go forth and watch. Oh, and while you're there, check out the hilarious TRON Holiday Special.

I saw TRON: Legacy tonight. In IMAX 3D. In a word? Mindblowing. I'm sorry I ever doubted you, Disney!

Oh, Christmas Dec. 10th, 2010 @ 03:52 pm
So I was really really bored today, and you know what that means: time to lurk on various LJ communities! My favorite lurking spot is the parenting debate comm booju_newju. It is full of tasty drama. And ever year, there's always a bunch of posts debating Santa Claus-- whether to do the Santa thing with our kids, how long to do it, when to tell your kids he's not real, what you'd do if a kid at school told your child Santa's not real, what you'd do if your child told a kid at school Santa's not real, etc.

And every year, there's at least one comment thread per post that goes like this:
