| Much-Needed Update |

So life ate me alive. Trust me, it wasn't all bad! Most of it, in fact, was very, very good. And yet, still with the me-eating by life. Several times I've looked wistfully over here after checking my f-list and wished I had the time and energy required to make a post.
First - tranquil_ashes - you will be getting a written thank you from both of us for your beautiful gifts. The jacket fits, and he was just as stunned as I was that a jacket like that exists. *grin* The patch will be going on my jacket shortly, and the pendant is not only incredibly beautiful but wonderfully appropriate. You have our deep gratitude! *GLOMP*
Second - I think I updated everyone on the fact that I have a new job back in July. If not, then here goes: I have a new job, pplz. And I am very very happy with that job and cannot put properly into words sometimes how happy said job makes me. We'll see if I'm singing the same tune in two years, but hey, right now it feels like it's what I'm supposed to be doing.
New new news! I have a kitteh! And Regs, pay special attention here. You'll die laughing. *G*
My old boss at the place where I'm working now took a job elsewhere, and because she had to move, she offered me her cat. I was uncertain; it's a $200 deposit to have a pet in my building, which I feel is highway robbery but hey, what you gonna do, eh? I'd just resigned myself to never having a cat.
She offered to pay the deposit.
My expression: :O
And thus, a couple weeks back I acquired a new housemate. He's male, three, neutered, declawed, had all his shots, and as I discovered later - he plays fetch and gives kisses and yells at me if I'm gone all day. He's commandeered the rocking chair as his personal perch and more than occasionally skims just a few centimeters above the carpet, I'm sure, as he zooms from one end of the apartment to the other.
He also came with a name. A very rooted name, which I can neither alter nor change.
His name is Simon.
My expression: x)
So we either have to rename Simon-the-Peace-Lily, Regs, or call them SimonC and SimonP. I WANTED to rename the cat, but unfortunately he answers to Simon, so there's not much I can do about that, and well... I would hope that Simon-the-Peace-Lily doesn't start responding to his name. So that process would be a bit easier.
Pictures of Simon coming soon. :D He's got a white patch on his chest, like a small tux front, and a small foxlike face. I adore him. I'm quite sure he was a secret service man in a past life. And he will be mine, and I will call him Frank, and he will be my Frank? XD Either he was in the secret service or he was a sekrit ninja, because he's my tiny guardian. Every new addition to the apartment Must Be Inspected, every new visited Must Be Approved, and all sounds outside the immediate vicinity Must Be Monitored Closely Until Such Time As They Are Determined Harmless. I'd jokingly say he channels Nick Angel, but he's not NEARLY as tightassed enough.
The Goodwill Goldfish has been passed on, Regan. sorchafyre came to visit last weekend, and with all due pomp, the Goodwill Goldfish now resides in Nebraska, there to await its next recipient.
I'm drawing again. When I have time, which isn't often.
Anyway, I live. Most of the time I'm pretty sure, anyway. |

| Rockapella |

Rockapella nut? Rockapellacurious? Here's something for you. Warning: Some of these files may not be Rockapella, but the sound is similar. I take no responsibility for mislabeled files - all I guarantee is that they all PLAY.
Rockapella Music Dump Part One: Mediafire
Rockapella Music Dump Part Two: Mediafire
And a song just for Em and Aidan that has nothing to do with Rockapella whatsoever. It's for Em because...well you'll get it... and it's for Aidan because if you don't mind country, it's a tiny little "origin" story packaged neatly up with Christmas mythology. I have no idea why, but I have to fight down tears while singing this one. It's not really that moving a little story, though very bittersweet in a Matchbox Girl-ish sort of way (without the freezing to death bit), but something about the melody itself kind of wrenches around in my chest.

This is an out-of-the-usual-timeline post. Why? Because I am home. Because I had to let the tech in to install my cable TV & Internet! WOO! I am completely independent now - I even set up the wireless router on my own! RAWK.
So yeah, at some point I should probably head back to work. ¬_¬ Then tonight, sort out the rat's nest of all the new wires. |

Fighting again to get on my mental feet again. I think I've got the general writing-functions of the brain locked down for now. They've been off playing hopscotch with the disconnected muses of writer's block sufferers for a ridiculously long time. Probably blowing rainbow bubbles and making sketches of hearts and butterflies in sidewalk chalk while I've been sweating out this sudden two-week-long-stretch of lack-of-writerly-anything.
Maybe they were out at Duck-Duck-Goose with Delirium. I wouldn't be surprised. |

| Hubris and frozen fish fillets. |

Tonight, there are two things I learned can be fried in olive oil to some rather tasty end (yellow lemon squash, cream cheese-filled frozen wontons), and two things that should NEVER be attempted (medium-sized chunks of potato, frozen breaded fish fillets).
...Heh. Me and my hubris got the better of me. Now, before anyone lectures me about the ills of attempting either one, let me remind you that I already knew. Hubris, however, allowed me to believe that somehow, because it was ME manning the pan, I could. *chuckles* |

I'm not going anywhere.
I have my journal backed up, hell, I have a backup journal sitting over at Journalfen. I backed up my main priority, DE. I'll be backing up the other assorted communities/writing journals I have laying around shortly. It's things I should have done long ago. I'll be looking into that dual-posting program thing, because that sounds nifty.
But for right now, I don't want to leave. I've done what I can to protect myself and what I care about. I think that some of these things are scary, yes. I'll have to decide in November whether or not I want to send another check to LJ - I can happily customize my journal without a paid account, I'll just miss my icons and photos but depending on the storm, it may be worth the sacrifice.
I refuse to panic. Livejournal has been my home since February of 2004 and I will not run yet. I still have several months left of paid time, and I intend to fucking use them. I'm sure, if I'm forced to relocate, that I'll find the people who are important to me again, and the people who care to read my journal will find me as well. For right now, though? *shrug* I've battened down the hatches.
So let me know where you're going, folks, if you choose to set sail for good - I'll keep a weather eye out for you. But at least until November, I'll still be here.
Also, I don't see what the big effing deal is about the "Report Abuse" button. They've had that on DeviantArt since the very beginning, and those folks are doing just fine, and nobody complains about it that I've seen. Of course there's Dudley Do-Rights and just plain asshats who'll press it for fun. Thing is? dA has a similar policy on content, except theirs extends to explicit depictions of ANY kind, regardless of flavor. You may not get tossed, but you'll certainly get your picture deleted and a severe warning. Do it on a regular basis and you probably will get tossed.
I have a problem with the meta-mods who decide to TOS someone just because they find it in poor taste. Unfortunately, because LJ servers are located in America, they have to bend to the will of American obscenity laws, which are sort of vague anyway. "I know it when I see it," is pretty much the law; in more detail: pretty much if the public as a whole would find it in prurient taste. In these days of evangelical overload and congressmen gliding into office on their golden bibles, I'm pretty sure the 'public as a whole' would turn a jaundiced eye to many of the things that have been cited as reasons to TOS. I wish Livejournal's servers were located somewhere else.
I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm not saying it's fair. I'm just saying. The internet is one of the last vestiges of free speech only because it's vast and global, giving lie to the fallacy that you can make a mark on the Net and yet still be completely anonymous. I think, as a whole, we've all been complacent in our certainty that we'll be Internet-famous within our circles but still anonymous to LJ. It's not true. Many of our journals can probably be tracked via Google and other search engines - I know mine certainly can. Some of our entries may be linked at del.icio.us, some of them may be linked at other journal sites. The thing is, we're visible. If you hung out at DE around the time that we discovered Omega Ventures, you damn well know it can even happen by accident.
LJ is a business, unfortunately, run by a corporation more interested in making a profit because that's how they keep LJ running. That profit comes partially of our paid accounts, but I think that since 6A has branched out to Vox, Typepad, etc., they don't specifically need us anymore. That profit comes largely of good customer service - which they're really failing at right now with respect to us - but there's probably enough people on LJ who use it for purposes that don't fall within any gray area of the TOS to make the loss of fandom a small sacrifice.
Part of the reason I refuse to switch to another service is that Livejournal has its outages yes, but. Their service has been far better and more reliable than Journalfen, doesn't shove the ads down your throat like Greatestjournal, and as an art community doesn't have nearly the downtime and short-outs of deviantArt, not to mention Elfwood, which is probably down again as we speak.
I honestly don't expect other journaling sites to survive, long-term. Deadjournal is still limping along, but you have no option of free service there and the place is comparatively tiny. What happens when everyone starts jumping to other sites? Server overloads. Suddenly they need money to upgrade their small server banks, which means they need to find some money, which means paid accounts hike up in price, nobody can join without a paid account (a la Deadjournal) or they sell out to a bigger company to afford the upgrades.
And then you have Livejournal, and deviantArt, all over again.
Like I said. I'll see, come November. |

| Vid - ["Sahara," Al/Dirk, to "Still the One" by Orleans] |
|
|

So this one's been bugging me long enough that - since I had the time tonight to do something for myself, I learned how to vid this afternoon through a variety of helpful sources, wrestled with the technology for a few hours, then popped this out.
Well...maybe not 'popped.' I'd say that roughly 10-12 hours went into this thing. But it's out of my head now. There's only one part I'm not so happy with, and I just did not have the technology and know-how to smooth the song transition when I cropped it. Bah.

Everyone told me that if I went in for a drug screening, even if I wasn't going in because someone suspected I was on drugs, they'd make me feel like I was some kind of addict.
I didn't believe them.
But they were right.
Sheesh. No, lady, I didn't TAKE any painkillers. NO PILLS, you hear me? I know, I know, you test urine samples for sneaky bastards day in and day out. I know you've been here long enough to call it 'making a drop.' But dude, does a multivitamin a week ago make me a drug addict? Sheesh.
I was clean, btw. Not like that's a big surprise.
My scan registered for faint amounts of painkiller. It could have been a slight variance in the test. That or Tristan's painkillers are starting to show up on MY tox screen. *snickerdeath* |

From the movie:
"Can we improvise a little?" Memphis asked.
Sway's expression lit up as she leaned forward on the bar. "Sure, whattayou have in mind, wanna get a little crazy? There's a Cutlass 442 in back, we can strip down and shine the hood." Sway ripped the words off like pulling the trigger on an AK-47. A maniac gleam touched the already electric blue eyes as she lifted her eyebrows in a dangerous Marx redux. "Whattaya say?" Sway licked her thick lips.

I believe... though I cannot be certain... that there is some Unusual Creature living within this building. I do not know whether its residence has always been here, or if it moved in at the beginning of our stay or briefly after we completed our move... but it is most certainly here now.
I suppose, if I were to look quite hard, I could assemble a great deal of diverse evidence pointing to an organism of arcane nature. At the moment, however, the most predominant clue which I have witnessed on numerous occasions is its peculiar habit of feeding. It is extremely shy, therefore I only discover the traces of its latest hunt rather than come upon the creature itself - but I believe one can assume several things, judging from said evidence.
1. It is not a predator, but a scavenger. 2. It has a rather large set of sharp teeth, or some other physiological cutting instrument useful for making very clean incisions. Perhaps it has mastered rudimentary tools? One could suppose the latter is more likely, as I have yet to see a jawline appear with no curvature in nature. Either that or it is stupendously large, which I doubt given the enclosed location in which it feeds. ...In consideration, I am certain it is the latter. It is also quite deft at opening boxes. 3. It is a donutvore of the raised variety. 4. It has a very low metabolism, or else is very small.
Once a week, on Tuesdays actually, the morning meeting's leftover donuts are placed on the table in an empty conference room, there to be picked over by the other scavengers subsisting on donuts as well, among other things (such as Cherry Coke and chocolate cake).
By the end of the day, always, all donuts are gone with the exception of the jelly-filled raised donut.
Half of this donut is always gone. |

I noticed this back when skitz_phenom visited, but it took until now for me to find a slice of time to document it.
Perhaps a message that this apartment thing was a good thing after all? Not that I really needed the affirmation.
Observe: image of Tristan's "Robin" that I collected two years ago, when he adopted his cat.
( Click for photo )
Observe: One of four glasses given to me by my grandmother when I first moved in. Glasses are not from any collection she owned - she purchased them at a yard sale a few days before giving them to me.
( Click for photo )
Again, it wasn't until DV and I were trawling through my photo collection that we stumbled across this picture of Robin, and I noticed that the glass looked familiar. No comment from Tristan a/o yet regarding whether he ever owned a set of these glasses. |

| Goddess Meme - As if I could resist this one. *baa-aaah...* |
|
|
| 09:34pm 22/06/2007 |
| |
Your Score: Aphrodite Indeed, you are 62% erudite, 79% sensual, 20% martial, and 16% saturnine. Born from the foam of the sea, Aphrodite became the Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty. This is a polite way of saying she was the Goddess of Sex. In the case of Aphrodite, perhaps it would be more accurate to say she was the Goddess of sex, sex, and more sex.
Obviously all this sex couldn't possibly be good 100% of the time, and it wasn't. Aphrodite was as well known for the pain she brought as she was for the pleasures of sexual passion which she personified. The lesson she taught was: "Every pleasure has its price."
The most notorious example of this is when she promised Paris, a Prince of Troy, the love of the world's most beautiful woman, Helen, if only he would judge her the fairest Goddess in a ridiculous contest that developed between Aphrodite, Hera, and Athena. Unable to resist such a lusty bribe, the foolish Prince declared Aphrodite the winner, which irked Hera and Athena to no end. True to her word, Aphrodite allowed Helen to fall under the seductive charms of young Paris.
What happened next most everyone knows - a ten year war that didn't come to an end until a certain wooden horse came on the scene.
In spite of all the pain and misery that Aphrodite brings to those who naively think of love as a simple matter full of sunshine and lollipops, she is still the Goddess of beauty and can be very gentle to those who respect and understand her sensual and complex nature.
The Fifteen Goddesses
These are the 15 categories of this test. If you score above average in
all or none of the four variables: Neit. Erudite: Minerva. Sensual: Aphrodite. Martial: Artemis. Saturnine: Persephone. Erudite & Sensual: Isis. Erudite & Martial: Sekhmet. Erudite & Saturnine: Nemesis. Sensual & Martial: Hera. Sensual & Saturnine: Bast. Martial & Saturnine: Ilamatecuhtli. Erudite, Sensual & Martial: Maeve. Erudite, Sensual & Saturnine: Freya. Erudite, Martial & Saturnine: Sedna. Sensual, Martial & Saturnine: Macha.
