So, um, when was it that I promised screenshot recaps of all episodes to the fandom? Late January the community archive says. Oh my, I'm so lame. But finally I've gotten started and will hopefully be able to post an episode per week (or every second week at least) from now on. I'll do this in my reversed order of the episodes, because I'm special like that. Well that, and a few of the early episodes have been discussed already.

A Death in the Family is considered the last episode of the series by many fans, and I'm no exception. It was the second to last produced episode (#23), The Man in the Middle being the last one (#24).

One more kilt joke and I'm going to kill him.

Beware the heavy screencap output under the cut ... )

... you dream the weirdest fannish shit ever.

It started out harmless enough with some emo-angsty Highlander stuff, probably because I read on fandom-lounge about that remake somebody wants to make of the first movie (boo!) and then suddenly everything morphes into this obscene Stargate SG-1 PWP (The fuck? I don't even watch/read that show).

The SG-1 team was held hostage on a spaceship (station?) where they were forced to work as sexslaves for the crew. They seemed to really like it too. No seriously. There were orgies and at one point Daniel gave Jack a blowjob in a locker-room, having spouted off techno-babble as foreplay. Then I came woke up. O.O

This is the first year that I actually watch the Semifinals and all I have to say is: "Was für ein Scheiß!"

Of my top 10 (below) only Norway, Israel, Romania and Armenia made it. What does this tell me? That I've really gotten to old for the ESC in its present form?

Who knows? Will go to bed cranky now.

1. Norway
2. Netherlands
3. Andorra (Yes the outfit was horrifying, but I like the song.)
4. Belgium
5. Slovenia
6. Israel
7. Moldau
8. Armenia
9. San Marino
10. Romania

You know what's adorable? Witnessing your almost seventy year old, grumpy, bitter, sometimes rather assholish father turn into a smiley faced, exitedly squeeing and flailing five year old in front of your eyes. What is needed for such a pleasant transformation to take place?

This:

He found him while cleaning the garden pond. My mother named him "Flecki" (Spotty) and he stayed a bit with us in dad's old terrarium. Dad later brought him into the nearby forest and put him into a puddle, because he wouldn't eat the earthworms we offered him and the pond cleaning will take some time.

Isn't he a cutie? More pictures of "Flecki" and our graden in springtime here

You Oliver/Christian people have got to be kidding me?

When this new fannish German Soap Opera phenomenon on (and off) lj first showed up via [info]frogspace on my friendslist, I had to do quite a few double takes.

Posts: Blablabla Verbotene Liebe gay storylines awesomecakes!!11!1
Me: Whut?!
Posts: Blablabla Oliver/Christian so cute omg!
Me: Who?! *looks up* Holy shit, it's really the same Oliver (Jo Weil) from seven years ago! o.o

I think I've mentioned it before, German daytimesoaps were pretty much my first ever online fandoms from 1999 to 2002 or so. Unsurprisingly it were only the gay storylines back then that got me into the mess. Yes, we had them back then too. With hot seXX0rs even. So the first thing I thought about Oliver/Christian was of course: Ha! I bet their scenes are not as hot as Tom/Ulli was. I stipulated this from the way they toned it down with Tom/Oliver later on the show, probably because of the predictable BUTWHATABOUTTHECHILLUNS!? WHOPUTTHATGAYPORNINMYDAILYSOAP!? reactions back in 2000.

So to possibly prove my point sometime, I digged out my old vhs tapes, put up some clips on my youtube account, and wham ... D:
Really kids, I'm to old for this Web 2.0 shit! Almost a thousand hits overnight? And the mob is demanding translations? Bu-but colloquial English is HARD!? Of course I translated the crappy German dialogues anyway. You can find the transcripts here.

Now also for my flist to marvel at, the probably most gay "first time" scene on a German daytimesoap ever:

Tom/Ulli, New Years Eve 1999/2000

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tJZzfaz0YNE

Lets just hope that Oliver/Christian break that record with their third or fourth time, right?

So, are some of my native-English-speaker flisters maybe a bit bored over the weekend and could quick-beta some stuffes for me, even if they have no idea about the fandom (Persuaders)?

It's three slash ficlets, together approx. 3000 words (PG13-R).

You would just have to look over the syntax, word use, and grammar (tenses), and compensate that I really suck at punctuation.

Pretty please? *flutters with eyelashes*

What's with the people who still post very common screen/promo-shots of a fandom put through photoshop and claim they drew them? Newbies the lot of them? Am I just old and jaded?

See, I can't draw for shit either and hence love diddling around with screens and photoshop filters too. And guess what, if I find something looks really cool I'll post it as photoshop fanart. What's so difficult about that? Oh wait, it's not as reputable in fancircles (lying is not all that reputable in fancircles either, just saying). Who cares? Seriously people, stand by your pirated photoshop copy! Claiming your art is a drawing when it's obviously not just makes me roll my eyes and click the ole back button, but if you tell me which filter you used for this or that effect, I'll squee and love you forever. But I don't count, I guess. *sighs*

PS: Despite this little rant, stuff like that doesn't bother me much, I just find it totally unnecessary.

I can tell from some of the pills on my bedside table and having seen a few birthdays in my life.

Not only am I sick as a dog, but it turns out that we shouldn't have yelled at Grandma last week, because she got an non-operable bladder-cancer diagnosis a while ago and it's unlikely she'll see her 90th. :(
In the morning the cousin rings telling us that my aunt colapsed last night and is in the hospital. She almost died of an aneurysm eight years ago and this is probably a late time complication. D:
Even my birthday chili went sour over night, which had my Mom in hysterics. It's okay Mom, I don't feel much like eating anyway.

Is this some kind of real life Godwin? Someone said Hitler (it's the 75. Anniversary of the Machtergreifung too today) and erverything fails?

I'll better crawl back into bed now, draw the blankets over my head and don't come out until this madness is over.

Well, if you want to know, what I was up to the last weeks, you have to take a look at [info]persuaders71, because I pretty much moved over there. Posted a bunch of icons yesterday. I'm also not sure if this will change much in the near future, so don't worry about the lack of entries here, I haven't fallen of the planet.

In other news: Grandma turned 89 today and she gets screamed at by the whole family - well, she doesn't hear so good anymore - to better make it another year, because the big 9-0 means party time (more than usual, of course)!

Tomorrow and on Monday will be concerts of the UniversityChoirMunich. We'll enact Berstein's Chichester Psalms,  Mozart's Kyrie in d minor, and Poulenc's Gloria. I think we suck, but I always think that, it doesn't mean much.

Oh hell yes! Yuletide has done it again. I didn't think it was possible anymore, with not only one but even almost two of my feet out of the fandom door, it gave me a new fannish love.

Technically it's not really a new fandom, since the show is from the early seventies, the actors are now both in their eighties (must resist scary RPS ideas), and I watched it first as a little kid.

But thanks to [info]joandarck's yuletide request that I caught on the pinch hit list, I was reminded of how much I still love "The Persuaders" or "Die Zwei" as the show is called in the German dub.

Re-watching it now I'm somewhat baffled at how utterly slashy the show is. There is constant bickering, flirting and inappropriate touching between the main characters. Sure there are parades of hot chicks for them, but those are total jokes. And I mean canon jokes!

As for the macro I made, no, that's not an actuall quote from the show but as far as the German dub goes it totally could be. I think I'll have to write tl;dr essays on the differences between original and dub soon.

Now off to watch and squee some more ...

This Christmas I was probably the last person on earth to get an i-pod. It's a tiny-little-green-shiny i-pod shuffle, and I shall pet it, and shuffle it, and call it George.

More shiny presents: Season three of Star Trek TOS, Nip/Tuck and Smallville respectively. Some stupid gadgets for my new PC (video grabber, tv-card), and the new EAV album.

And now I'm dead from holiday food.

I'm sorry for the radio silence (or would that be lj silence) during the last weeks, but the Christmas season really grates on my nerves this year and I don't quite know what to do with myself.

At the moment it goes like this:

- eat Christmas cookies
- do some online shopping
- glare at yuletide story drafts for not finishing themselves
- masturbate
- eat more Christmas cookies
- play Sims 2 for 12 hours on end
- do more online shopping
- glare at yuletide drafts some more

So now it's back to wanking I guess ...

Subject:WANK: My Thoughts On Yaoi
Security:Public
Mood:Slashy

Rated: PG-13

Okay, the title is a lie, this will be mostly just about how I came to be an ole western slash-girl. Because, believe it or not, despite of all those thoughts on f_w, I still know almost nothing about yaoi. All I know is that there are semes and ukes and horrible stereotypes that put pregnant Elf!Blair to shame, and it seems to be unclear if this is a bug or a feature of the genre. And that is that.

I guess the problem is I never got into manga or anime like much of fandom did. The only exceptions are Sailor Moon and maybe Zelda if console games count. Not so much with the yaoi there. But I read some really hot Sailor Moon yuri once. Wish there was more of that. :P Would help me to not feel so gulity about oppressing neglecting the femslash.

But back to the boy-love. On second thought no, let's start with the bad and ugly: Het.

Beloved het pairings of little and slightly less little birene were: Snowhite and the seven dwarves prince. Scarlett and Rhett, Luke and Lora, David and Maddie, Lois and Clark and probably many more. Hm. Looking through that list they are all somewhat antagonistic, no? *ponders* I'll blame my parents.

Granted these are all rather minor - or better - early fandoms in my fanish biography. The first really big fandom for me was of course Star Trek. Now that screems for some classical slash, right? No such luck with me. In all permutations of Trek I ship almost exclusively het ships. Some very strange ones (Troi/Worf, Janeway/Paris) and some rather banal ones (Picard/Crusher). For some odd reason slash feels always forced to me in Trek. It's not that I'm not aware of Picard/Q or Kirk/Spok, it just doesn't spark with me at all. I have a similar problem with slash in Star Wars and Stargate (both) but then I never got into those fandoms anyway. I don't now what it is with the space sagas and me, but it's very strange indeed, because I see slash now in everything else and I mean really everything.

I think it all started when I got a little obsessed with a German soap opera pairing: Phillip/Fabian. Not really slash, some would argue, since it was a m/m canon pairing, but it definitely brought me on the right track. That was in 1997/1998 and concidentially this was also ...

1. the time when birene discovered the Internets. (Thank you Al Gore!)

2. the time when I came to terms with my own queerness.

Online I got engaged in a little snark community about the soap opera and we even ended up writing a round robin at one point. I also wrote my first slash piece about a m/m pairing that wasn't canon in the soap.

In 2000/2001 when I finally started to fiddle around with the idea of my own webpages, I stumbled over "The Nifty Archive". Hey, stop laughing! It could have been worse like FF.net or something. Yeah okay, it's pretty bad (I think I still owe it my high crap tolerance when it comes to fanfic) but like with the pit there are some pearls to find, plus I like me some bad porn sometimes too.

At first I just read the original m/m and orgy porn and pretty much ignored the media section. But when stories run out back to wanking, erm, I got curious and found some hilarious Trek Fic and my first Highlander slash I think.

Now it was on!

I found "Seventh Dimension" and other Higlander archives via the FanFiction Directory and got sucked in despite the main fandom pairing not being my OTP (Methos is awesome sure, but I was a Duncan/Richie shipper before it was necrophilia unpopular). The stories were just that great.

My next obsessions became the Prospect 852 Sentinel Archive and The Quantum Leap Slash Archive which got me into the yahoo mailing list thing. I wrote my first stories in (horrible) English in those fandoms and then moved on to Oz snd Smallville of whitch I had learned via TWOP.

My first non tv show based fandoms where my sisters fault, who forced me to actually leave the house and watch LotR and Harry Potter movies. TEH HORRORZ! But that elf and the dwarf where totally doing it. The dorky child magician I thought was just plain stoopid. That is until I found porn on the internets about him. Funny how that worked.

Harry Potter fandom made me get an LJ account in 2004, for lurking purposes only at first, but soon I fell prey to it's evil communicative ways and what follows was Dead Zone, Nip/Tuck, Torchwood, the ususal suspects.

Now it's almost 2008 and while I still consider myself a slash-whore of the highest order, I'm getting somewhat disfranchised with fandom. All the new rages (Heroes, House, Supernatural, SGA, Moonlighting etc.) don't interest me in the least. There is still Torchwood, but I don't have a good feeling about that either, since I actually watched a couple of episodes *cough* (I honestly found them horrible).

The end of an era? I don't know. Maybe it's really time for me to get back at that whole manga/anime thing and develope some better thoughts on yaoi. ;)

Subject:WANK: My Pathetic Adventures In (Thoughts On) Cosplay
Security:Public
Mood:geeky

Rated: G

Almost all I know about cosplay I learned from fandom_wank. Of course I knew about the joys of dressing up as a superhero, elf or klingon long before that. I mean, which flaming geek over the age of five wouldn't? But I had no idea that there was an actual fan term for it.

Hence the first cosplay wanks on f_w confused me greatly, seeing as they were about manga fandoms I had never heard of and kept using that word which I was to lazy to google. For the longest time I thought cosplay had something to do with either table top games, RPGs or manga and it wasn't until the first Usagi Kou wank that I finally got a clue.

Oh hell yeah. Sailor Moon just screams for cosplay. I always wanted to cosplay as Sailor Pluto, but know that my hair finally is not lacking in length so much anymore (okay, it's still far from ground length but having to hold it up while on the toilet it's slowly getting there) I'm still not sure where to get such a dark green shade of a hair dye.

Also judging by the wanks and the totally not skewed fan convention docus on tv, to become a successfull and admired cosplayer, you seem to have to be a very special brand of batshit crazy, which I'm somewhat lacking. Not to mention want to actually be among other people. So you can probably guess, that my own dabbling with cosplay was always rather pathetic. But heartfelt, I swear!

My pathetic cosplay attempts let me show you them:

Supergirl
here )

Okay, that was mostly just a carnivals costume, but please to be paying attention to the precious selfmade cardboard "S"- emblems and the hair dying job gone horribly wrong. Also no miniskirt but leggins which is no doubt the hight of fanboy-blasphemy or something. It's actually an oversized blue leggins with a blue bodystocking and a red bathingsuit on top, the upper part of the bathing suit rumpled under the yellow strech belt.

Random Star Trek Redshirt
here )

This I actually wore to a fan event. Yay! It was a Star Trek movie night (multi-feature showing, I think it were at seven movies back then) and there were real other geeks there, some in merchandise uniforms and some with a huge confederation flag they waved around every time the credits rolled over the screen. Me I just had earstuds as rank insignia and a lopsided handdrawn communicator. Talk about feeling inadequate again.

Still, it was fun, and holy shit I can't believe these photos are almost twelve years old.
