Annnnnd that page is already the top Google result for "Amazon rank."
Do not enrage the Internet. It WILL strike back.
Uh-huh, just saw that roll around on twitter. That was kinda record time.
Heavily blogged posts tend to bounce to the top. The trick will be keeping it there after the furor has died down, though with all the high-profile blogs linking to it, that shouldn't be too hard.
I don't know. They googlebombed Bill Napoli in 2006 and their page is STILL the second result (after his wiki page) when you search for him, and the post requesting the google bomb is #3. Unless everyone turns around and removes the links, it's probably going to stay there for awhile.
There are two issues. 1) books having their sales ranks removed which means they no longer show up in bestseller lists, recommendations, etc. 2) books being excluded from general searches.
Using an example of someone I know. Go to amazon.com and in the top box, under "All Departments" search for Jackie Barbosa. She does not show up as an author in a general search anymore. (Which arguably when someone goes to amazon.com is the first and easiest search method.)
If you go to the books section and search for her, you'll find her book, which is published by an erotic romance line. But it no longer has a sales rank and will not be found during a routine general search.
The books aren't being removed, but they're being made more difficult to find.
Ah ok, I see, I tried Jackie and yeah, you have to go to the book section to find her.
Also, again, I didn't find the Red Door in the general search(do you see how many books and movies have that title btw?)
yes, I can see Amazon wants you to be very specific about Adult Content, it seems any ways...

But only as they define it. Playboy and Girls Gone Wild are still non-adult, as are Nina Hartley and Ron Jeremy. But a general search for Heather Has Two Mommies doesn't return the book because it has been de-ranked. And I'm not sure we can claim that's an adult content issue.
When you search homosexual, mostly what comes up is "save your kids from teh_ghey", but when you search gay all that comes up is DVDs of gay pr0n. Which makes it hard for me to find the books on queer history that I would want to buy.
Hahaha. Okay, see, apparently it happens to us too. I didn't even know our second book was up on amazon. Search Moira Rogers from the front page and you get Cry Sanctuary. If you click our name you'll get another book. | |
