[For the researchers amongst you]
I almost forgot. Would anyone like a couple of books on Queerness in the Vietnam war? I have two that are looking for new homes now that I'm done with them.

The Boy Who Picked the Bullets Up by Charles Nelson (fiction)

A Personal War in Vietnam by Robery Flynn (non-fiction)

[I'm so behind, I can't find my ass]
All I could do was skip=60 on my LJ flist, which is, you know, like everything that's been posted since 6 a.m. this morning, so if you've done anything fabulous or important I need to know about the last few days, hit me up with your news!

But it's been a good summer, overall.  Vacation got canned for another later vacation, which also got canned for dogsitting reasons, but I'm still okay with how things are going.  We have been busting hump to get the little things in the house done so it will be suitable for showing. The goal is to have it on the market by August 1. If it's not sold by the end of September, we're taking it back off for the winter and will try again next spring.  Yes, it's just that hard to sell a house in the winter here.

I'm winding up my tech writing project, which has shown me that I cannot, in fact, do twenty things at once anymore.  My massage business has gone woefully neglected the last three months and I need to take a break from writing so I can do it and other dog-related business things.  Then they want me to do some more tech writing work later in the summer, which I really can't say no to in good conscience.  I mean, it has enabled us to pay off Heimdall's vet bill, which was really the size of a house down payment. *sigh*

But lest you think we are all of a sudden being fiscally responsible, we went yesterday to see about trading Wolfie's Ford Focus in for a green Honda Element. Yes, we would then be a two Element household. I don't know whether to be tickled or appauled.  While we were waiting to see what they'd give us for the Ford, we discussed going to a movie.  We'd narrowed it down to Jonah Hex or Iron Man 2 when I mentioned the new Twilight movie. Wolfie thought that would be fun, at which I boggled visibly and told him there was no way I was sitting in a theater with hundreds of tweenies watching that movie.  He said he was just thinking of me because he knew I liked looking at Taylor's six pack. Hmph.

[It's a deal!]
So, for various reasons, there was some question as to whether I would be able to make Wincon this year in Chicago, which was pretty much unthinkable.  I love that con like pie and love helping out with it any way I can.

Well, I got the green light this weekend and will definitely be there, probably Thursday through Monday.  And what does this mean to you? Help me come up with good ideas for awesome panels. Y/Y?  We have two tracks, so the more the merrier.

[Gee, thanks Beth]
Finally got back to catching up on my DW friends and read [personal profile] bethbethbeth  's post about the Due South Ride Forever DVD.

Now, Due South used to be the be all and end all of fandoms for me.  Not only was the show smart, but some of the best fiction I've ever read in my life came from dS fans (some of the worst, too).  There was the Ray wars....ah, nostalgia is a wonderful thing, even though I refused to participate myself.  Me and mine knew who was the best. *g*  I loved this show so much I had to participate in creating a zine of fic from my favorite writers because really, when you want more fic, what's the best way to get it?  Offer to publish it for them.  Dude, those were the days.

So, instead of working on my deadline, I'm watching Ride Forever and it's all come washing back over me.  What prompted me to pause for a moment to post?  Paul's comments about why Benton Fraser was so attractive to women.  "The uniform was snappy" and "the dog is a definite attractant."  Oh, Paul.  Never change. This is the man I once declared I would do anything he wanted to in public with me.

Yes, Paul. It's the dog.

[Where is the Glee love?]
I thought for sure at least a few of you were Glee fans. I don't talk about it a whole lot, but I have to say my love for this show is reaching a remarkable peak for not having an ounce of slashiness to it. Matter of fact, I've gotten downright mushy about it.

Take for instance the fact that I'm watching the season finale for the second time today just to see if I'll cry again TWICE.

ETA:  Nope, only cried once this time.

[What an interesting week it's been]
So, we're looking at kennels/dog daycares in Illinois (near Chicago), Utah, North Carolina, Washington and Michigan.  That actually means squat. However, we are hopeful.  Anyone need a data architect in any of these areas?

I did the Botanical Bow Wow today at the Denver Botanical Gardens and had a great time until the wind got so harsh we had to take the pop up tent down and stand in the sun.  Vala , however, did win most beautiful senior dog!!  Which she is, of course.  However, now I am sitting here sunburned and drinking a Sam Adams beer, which I guess in the grand scope of things isn't that bad.

Earlier this week I had a Glee dream Yes, it was a Glee episode WITH DOGS!  Quelle Surprise!!

Right this second I'm watching Christian Bale in Reign of Fire and thinking he would make an excellent RP character in yo_gotham.  Then after this is over, I'mma watching Crazy Heart on Pay For View. My life, it is so exciting.

Someone sit on me and make me knit!!

[These are not the Femdroids you are looking for]
Or maybe they are if you're of the ilk of certain people on LJ who continue to claim, against all logical argument otherwise, that every woman should be strong and stand up for herself, no matter what is done or she thinks was done to her.  Rise above the weakness of anonymity and face your attackers!  The Femdroid battlecry is "If I can do it, anyone can!"

And they live in Fantasy Pagan Land.

[This post is not about puppies (for a change)]
I've waited three whole days to post and that must be a record for me, as I am Impulse Girl to an epic proportion. That does not mean I don't have definite thoughts on the subject. I've just trying to put those thoughts into words in a way that won't leave a distinctive foot taste in my mouth.  Because when I see red the way I have the last couple of days, I tend to let it fly and that's not going to do anyone any good.

Yeah, I roll with the Wincon concom and I'm proud of it.  They let me help when I can, like last year in Denver. I've actually been to every Wincon since the the first in Nashville, so yeah, I was around in Baltimore...some of it I observed first hand, like the taking of pictures inside a con panel room without asking permission, and some I was only on the periphery of (and I think we all know what THAT was).  Needless to say, I stand firmly on the side of Wincon and not just because it is brought to us by the hard work of two most amazing women, but because the committee's decisions on certain things have not been made in a vacuum and that should be "enough said" for everyone.  It is a private function after all and if a collection of posts weren't made in a moment of heated hurt and anger, it would have stayed private, where it belonged.

So, now that I've offered full disclosure for my bias, I'd like to point you to some posts (in no particular order of importance) much more eloquent than I could make, because truly it has gone beyond the point of she said/she said and into the land of why the fuck are women in my fandom supporting rape culture. Yes, I said it.

[Knitting in a bar]
Yes, we're all (as in Wolfie, me and the three dogs) are going to this great dive bar called Jezebel's Jukejoint and Brothel in the old industrial part of town this afternoon.  They have a 1/4 acre fenced grass area off the patio perfect for letting the dogs go fend for themselves while we sit on the patio eating BBQ and drinking beer (and knitting).

I'm feeling VERY optimistic about my forthcoming venture. Wolfie still has to read my biz plan and sign off on it, since I basically can't get my biz loan without his co-signature, but.... I'm optimistic.  Possibly posting news next week.

Now I have to go contest this paypal charge to the iTunes store for a playlist I've never even heard of.  Gah.

[My ties to Misha, let me show you them...]
Tenuous at best. :D   My neighbor/friend came over for our Friday afternoon cocktail hour and she knows I watch Supernatural. She'd told me last week her mom told her that one of their mutual friends was married to an actor on SPN but she couldn't remember who it was.  Today she said "It's that guy with the  Russian name."

"Misha?" I squeak? She nods. "Yeah, they live up in Canada. So my neighbors mom and Misha's wife's mom are friends.  We're practically soulmates!!!

[I get it]
I've attempted and somewhat succeeded in several ventures in my life.  Not once did I take the time to sit down and write a business plan. I figured if you knew where you were going and what your goal was, that was enough. Surely, if you're attempting an enterprise, you know what you're doing, right?

I have just spent two weeks writing out and projecting  numbers for a business plan for my next adventure and I have to say, it took that full two weeks for me to realize exactly what my goal is.  Today it clicked. I was adding in one little sentence as I read through my mission statement and I GOT IT.  YES, that's what this is all about, I said to myself.

So, I thought I'd say it to you too.

Also, who has written a successful business plan, as in, it was what convinced the bank to give you money?  I need mine looked at.

[It's a good night]
I look forward to but rarely indulge in nights like tonight.  I thought while the hockey game was on in the living room, I'd sit in the office with my headphones on and either a) go through the next module of my canine nutrition on-line course, b) start work on the edits I have to do for the tech doc I'm working on, c) go back and do some more on my business plan or d) balance the checkbook.

I wound up curled in my overstuffed chair and ottoman with a magazine and a beer.  Has anyone discovered this little gem of a 'zine called Good?  It's truly rockworthy.

I forgive annezo for giving me her headcold through the internets, because I know she still loves me.  However, it has made my brain all kinds of hairy to the point that I totally spaced that me and the kids had a vet appt this afternoon. Got a call about 15 minutes after it was scheduled asking me if I'd like to reschedule.  I'm pretty sure I said "Oh, shit!" to the poor girl before apologizing for being such a space cadet. Not for cussing. I never apologize for cussing.

Tomorrow may be a turning point in my life. that's all I have to say right now. This entry was originally posted at http://brynwulf.dreamwidth.org/6936.html. Feel free to comment there or here.

[Looking for Survivors]
So, aside from the iheart lj, does anyone know where i can download the new season of the BBC post-apoc series, Survivors?  The ones at the other place I mentioned don't burn correctly, which could quite possibly be my DVD recorder's fault, as it is acting pissy these days, but that doesn't negate the fact that I can't watch them on my TV and that makes me sadface and write run-on sentences.

I'm only marginally competent with photo/graphics software and use Paintshop Pro myself. But, if you are good at fixing lighting problems in photographs I WANT YOU.  Got a digital pic I took of our BFFs on their anniversay on our front porch. I guess it was really bright that day as their faces are almost totally washed out and my tiny bit of color and highlight adjustment just makes things worse.  I'm sure it has something to do with burning just around the facial area, but frankly I don't have time right now to learn that and I want to get this picture framed. :)

Leave a comment if you'd like me to send you the file (along with email addy if I don't have it). I don't expect miracles and after looking at it you say "It's a lost cause," well, I'll understand. *G*

[The guilt, it burns]
I'm in the mood to surf around the web and wanting to ask you what your favorite feed to follow here on DW is, but then i think about ALL the crap I have to do and how behind I am, and yes, I did start a new contract Friday, why do you ask, and well...  I make do with just posting about it here.

We have a new family member. Wolfie adopted Kleiner for me for our anniversary because he could see the past week that it was getting harder and harder for me to contemplate letting him go to another adoptive family.  The perils of fostering. He's our second failed foster, as Heimdall was our first. Must be something about those deaf boys with blue eyes, huh?  He is learning his hand signals quickly now and so bright. He checks in with me constantly, or with Dag. Yes, he loves his big brother muchly.

Now I have to go write four examiner.com articles because IiM WAY BEHIND!!!

Sorry this post is so boring, but it's just that sort of day.  The most exciting thing I've done in the last 24 hours was take apart and rebuild a water analyzer at the GE plant. Oh, well...I did go to project Ruffway to benefit a local shelter but that wasn't as much fun as the water analyzers, actually.

[Don't want to work]
Ready to play now!!  I so deserve it!  All I want to do today is surf the web and check out all the cool links I ignore when I'm trying to keep my nose to the grindstone. And doesn't that sound painful?

Snowflake is now being called Saxon by me and Kliener by Wolfie.  We figure he doesn't care since he's deaf.  We both agree he is most certainly NOT a Snowflake.

Also, can someone pleeze point me to discussion of "The Phone Call" from last week's SPN episode?  LJ, DW, IJ or JF... wherever they are, lead me there?

[Ever have those days where you can't figure out which icon to use?]
This TOTALLY ROCKS!!  I was hoping for real tie-dye easter eggs when I clicked on the link (you know me), but this is equally as stupendous. I think I'm hitting up the local thrift store for some ties tomorrow!!

And speaking of Easter...er...well, Passover, anyway, we have been invited to a traditional Russian Orthodox feast Sunday and I need suggestions on Kosher wines.  Bueller?

I'm rockin' and rollin' with my Examiner articles this week and really getting into  the swing of actually writing for a living.  But I NEED my rec writing time.  [personal profile] the_ellcrys  and I have this fascination with Giles(Ripper)/John Winchester/Ellen.  Mature sexin' for the win!!
