Why do people who seem to hate a certain pairing join the community for that pairing? I've just started getting into livejournal and don't have much of a friends list yet, so I've been reading the mckay_sheppard community's friends list as well. Last night I ran into a post that was complaining about all the AUs being McShep and I wanted to post an extremely wanky reply that let the original post know five things:
1. I understand your pain, really I do, I've been in fandoms where I didn't like the popular pairing, Highlander and not being a Duncan/Methos fan being one of them.
2. I found your post by reading the mckay_sheppard friends list and I've got to ask why the hell are you a member of the community if you hate the pairing so much. If you just want the fic, icons, vids, etc. the newletter links to everything from the community, so again why the hell are you a member.
3. One of my biggest pet peeves is telling authors to stop writing one pairing and start writing others and that is what your post comes across as. It alsom makes you sound like a whine with an entitlement comples. The authors of those AUs wrote them as McShep because that's what they wanted to write.
4. There is now a livejournal community for nonMcShep pairings. If you posted a challenge for AUs with nonMcShep pairings there, using the examples in your post, I'm sure you would get a decent response, especially considering the comments to your post.
5. Your post was also the final push I needed to go, at least on the slash side of things, from a Rodney McKay OTCer with a 90% preference to a full-on McShep OTPer ao a sincere thank you to you for that, "Thank You". |
