My friends are having a post-Thanksgiving potluck tonight, so I modified this recipe as follows:
Mushroom Pumpkin Soup
1/2 lb. mushrooms, sliced 1 cup chopped onion 2 tbsp. butter or oil 2 tbsp. flour 1.5 tbsp. curry powder 6 cups chicken broth 2 can (1 lb.) pumpkin 2 tbsp. honey dash nutmeg salt to taste pepper to taste 1 cup half-and-half optional sour cream or yogurt, topping
Sautée mushrooms and onion in butter or oil. Add flour and curry and stir. gradually adding broth. Add all but milk and cook, stirring, for 10 - 15 minutes. Add milk and heat through without boiling. May top with sour cream or yogurt.
I'll be serving it with a loaf of whole-clove garlic bread for dipping.
...I'm so proud. I've never cooked anything more complicated than modified ramen with baked chicken before. XD

Well, I rather liked it. Though I'm sure it helped that we had Tonks in the row in front of us - she was awesome.

WAT
No really. WTF: (bolding mine) mmanurere 2008-09-18 07:56 pm UTC
Here's the logic:
According to 19th-century fundie "literalist" theology, it will be possible to recognize the Antichrist because he'll appear to be preaching the teachings of Jesus (e.g. peace, love, generosity, understanding, forgiveness). Therefore, anyone who preaches a Jesus-like message is under suspicion of being the Antichrist, a suspicion of which good Christians clear themselves by preaching greed, war, and hate. My bullshit-o-meter just broke.

Just finished it as my latest insomniac film - The History Boys is utterly fantastic, and I think it'd be right up the alley of FW folk.
I can't say why beyond the dialogue, but I have this inkling of a feeling it would really be appreciated here.
Mwahaha. Go watch it!

| Oh Obama, No! |

Obama and McCain Both Oppose Gay Marriage, Split on Abortion
Both candidates clearly expressed their belief that marriage should remain an institution available only to heterosexual couples. When asked to specifically define his views on marriage, Obama stated that he believes “that marriage is the union between a man and a woman.” “Now, for me as a Christian, it’s also a sacred union. God’s in the mix,” he added.
Obama said, however, that he would not support a federal constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. Instead, he reaffirmed his belief that regulation of marriage should remain on the state level. In addition, Obama said that he does “believe in civil unions” and feels gay and lesbian couples should share many of the same rights of straight couples. If you're not going to support the gay community, Obama, we'd like our money back.
Jackass.

I just realized that Jerry Orbach did Broadway as well, and was even the original Billy Flynn in Chicago. I love him even more now.

| thoughts on right-wing Christianity and extremist Islam |
[30 Jul 2008|06:03pm] |

Post inspired by this royal bitch.
Ok, I'm going to draw a pretty wanky comparison here, but I think it holds some merit.
Christians who insist upon a culturally influenced, uneducated, ears-in-the-fingers reading of the Bible are just as bad as the Muslims whom they love to criticize and, ironically, are doing the same thing.
No, the Christians who do this aren't stoning people or planting bombs on trains, but they are walking down the same theoretical path in the manner in which they interpret and teach their own scriptures.
Furthermore, I think the only reason it hasn't gotten as out of hand as those in the Middle East is a difference in the cultural and political climes in which these people reside. I'm not going to pontificate on this much further because of a) no research and b) I'm writing this with a migraine so I'm bound to pull something idiotic out of my ass.
Still, what I am getting at is that all the interpretations of the Qur'an and the Bible which progressive minds detest are ones which give the person's culturally-taught opinions more importance than the actual text which they are reading. Furthermore, the spread of these ideas occurs in a similar manner - from people who have read the text and are able to twist it into their preset opinions to those who haven't actually read the text, nor sought out any other source of education on the text, for whatever reason. K, I go get Starbucks and help The Girl pack for New York now. Please don't kill me if I said something in a stupid manner.

About a year ago, Worth1000.com had a Photoshop contest for manipping celebrities into Renaissance portraits. Several are incredibly good, most are a bit WTF.
Jack Black is definitely my favorite.
Go here for the lulz and awe.

Get Smart is hilarious. It does not disappoint. Its trailers undersell it. GO SEE IT.
The crowd actually applauded. I haven't heard a theater crowd applaud since the midnight showing of Star Wars II when Yoda gets his badass on.
