| recipe time! |

My friends are having a post-Thanksgiving potluck tonight, so I modified this recipe as follows:
Mushroom Pumpkin Soup
1/2 lb. mushrooms, sliced 1 cup chopped onion 2 tbsp. butter or oil 2 tbsp. flour 1.5 tbsp. curry powder 6 cups chicken broth 2 can (1 lb.) pumpkin 2 tbsp. honey dash nutmeg salt to taste pepper to taste 1 cup half-and-half optional sour cream or yogurt, topping
Sautée mushrooms and onion in butter or oil. Add flour and curry and stir. gradually adding broth. Add all but milk and cook, stirring, for 10 - 15 minutes. Add milk and heat through without boiling. May top with sour cream or yogurt.
I'll be serving it with a loaf of whole-clove garlic bread for dipping.
...I'm so proud. I've never cooked anything more complicated than modified ramen with baked chicken before. XD

Just finished it as my latest insomniac film - The History Boys is utterly fantastic, and I think it'd be right up the alley of FW folk.
I can't say why beyond the dialogue, but I have this inkling of a feeling it would really be appreciated here.
Mwahaha. Go watch it!

I just realized that Jerry Orbach did Broadway as well, and was even the original Billy Flynn in Chicago. I love him even more now.

About a year ago, Worth1000.com had a Photoshop contest for manipping celebrities into Renaissance portraits. Several are incredibly good, most are a bit WTF.
Jack Black is definitely my favorite.
Go here for the lulz and awe.

Get Smart is hilarious. It does not disappoint. Its trailers undersell it. GO SEE IT.
The crowd actually applauded. I haven't heard a theater crowd applaud since the midnight showing of Star Wars II when Yoda gets his badass on.

| walrus baby! |
[16 Jun 2008|04:22pm] |
Animal Planet series "Growing Up" had an episode on a baby walrus (named Nereus) they rescued. I can't decide who is cuter - the walrus or the pretty keeper!
Wait, ok, the walrus definitely wins with a whisker-ful of snow. XD
Episode summary: "An orphaned baby walrus finds a new home thousands of miles away from the Alaskan beach where it is found. Named Nereus, the baby gets round the clock care from his human keepers at the Indianapolis Zoo."
Here he is all growed-up on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji-g0-C-bUs
Also, here's a cute shot of him as a kid.

I've embarked on a journey to brighten up my room for spring.
My beautiful new desk decorations:
( cut for img )
Also, am in the process of re-hanging my art and reorganizing things so I don't feel quite as cluttered. And am looking into local ikebana classes (Sogetsu School) to further pretty things up.

Yeah, was better than Temple of Doom, and was definitely entertaining, but had some serious eye-rolling moments. I'd still recommend seeing it in theaters 'cause damn, it's Indiana Jones!

I just don't know how to feel about this: I chose Kristen Stewart as a little-known celebrity PB for a Firefly RPG back in the day, and now she wouldn't be accepted thanks to Twilight.
It just kinda boggles the mind.

| postponed due to midget hanging |
[15 Apr 2008|06:56pm] |
|
The JKR Pwnage Pie (or tart, rather) has been postponed until Thursday due to the local grocery store having absolutely NO berries.
I mean, WTF?
|
|
| thrifty! |
[14 Apr 2008|07:49pm] |
|
Inspired by the pwnage chart from the RDR vs. JKR shennanigans, I've decided that on my off day tomorrow, I shall make a JKR Pwnage Pie! (but for visual purposes, it shall be a fruit pizza / tart of sorts. I'm still waiting on a basic recipe from Mum)
Here's my rough plan (Updated with different fruits!):
JKR Pwnage Pie
Strawberries = 91.41% Rowling Material Blueberries = 3.81% Other Non-Rowling Material Gooseberries = 0.01% "Flints" Cherries = 0.68% Facetious Remarks Blackberries = 1.05% Common Knowledge / Real World Facts Mangoes = 0.10% Other Unattributed Third-Party Text Raspberries = 1.20% Etymologies Kiwis = 0.09% Citations to Third-Party Sources Plum = 1.65% Citations to Ms. Rowling's Statements Now all I need to do is decide what to do for the 0.10% of Other Unattributed Third-Party Text and the 0.09% of Citations to Third-Party Sources, as well as convert all those %'s into cooking measurements (i.e. 1% = 1 cup).
ETA: The actual recipe I'm basing this off of...
( Fruit Tart Pizza )
So yeah, the idea is to follow this recipe and just adjust the fruits and amounts of fruit, obviously. (My mom notes that the fruit amount in the recipe isn't enough anyhow... or maybe too much, I forget - this is why I don't usually cook btw.)
I, of course, will take pictures.
Any more suggestions? Also: Since I'll be broiling the fruit, does it matter if they're not entirely ripe yet?
And: cleolinda I should definitely try that!
Thanks for all the help folks!
