Okay.... just what relevance does John Updike have to fandom? Is mainstream literature considered a fandom now? Also, why the hell do you need to inform us of something we could have seen by looking at the New York Times?

Yeah, see, but the question should not be, "Am I allowed to post this?" The answer is almost always yes. The question should be, "Is it likely that anyone else wants to see this, especially on a community as large as fandom_lounge?" The answer is probably no.

People conflate one with the other quite easily, however, and I'm not sure that people post with the mentality that no one else wants to see it. That certainly wouldn't have prevented the post in question, as the poster believed people wished to see it, also.
