Seriously, like.... This death is on all the celeb blogs, and I kind of doubt there was a huge fandom for this dude. However, doesn't look like there is much interest.

How about just no deaths period? Cuts out the wigglespace that the professional Lounge mourners enjoy so much and spares us the awkward arguments about the famousness and fandom-relevance of the freshly deceased.

It's not like they can't get the frigging news anywhere else.

True, that is a good idea.

I guess the only reason why didn't say "no deaths ever" was because say a fan dies. This death will be covered in the local obit column of wherever they live, but won't be covered on CNN.com, because they aren't famous anywhere but fandom. But maybe this would be better done by having a separate fandom_obit comm or something.

I agree with Ashenmote on the no deaths policy. If you're really concerned about missing the death of a fan, then you can say something like, "No deaths, except under rare circumstances. If you want to know if the announcement you want to make qualifies, contact a moderator. Do not post a death without prior approval from a moderator. It WILL be deleted."

You might also say that you're willing to mirror content from fandom_lounge that doesn't contain deaths (which would be work and suffering for you, but would certainly increase the membership quickly).

(And after all of that, I'll mention that, oddly enough, I'm still really sad about Michael Jackson.)

I think I am coming around to your POV.

However, as for mirroring, wouldn't it be sort of a problem depending on whether the posters were ok w/ being mirrored? Maybe instead a digest form of links would work better, on perhaps a periodic basis?
