There is some interesting shit on the Internet to stumble across. This isn't something I'd normally even look at – it's linked to a self-help counselling book for heterosexual married couples, and the quiz on the site is a little eh for that reason too. But I followed a link off another site, as you do, and the concept is really interesting, that everyone receives the message of "I love you" in one or two of these five different ways.

The thing that made these so fascinating is that I can totally fit people I know into those patterns – they're really a lot more general, humanist categories to me, and applicable to way more than "romantic love" for married peeps.

So where do you and your partner(s)/friends/etc. fit? *g* I'm a quality time kinda guy.

( This is the first real holiday that Lucas has spent living in the US. Yeah, there's the week offsetting Victoria Day in Canada from Memorial Day in the States in May, but they're both sort of 'Hey it's getting warmer let's party!' deals, nothing overtly different in the way they're celebrated, so far as he's noticed. The Fourth of July, though, that's a big deal – big enough that he and Matthew are headed for Vegas tomorrow, to spend the long weekend at Matthew's mother's ranch. Lucas isn't especially nervous about it, for which he's thankful. )

It's still very strange to be celebrating in LA, but I've got my red and white duds, my boyfriend, and imported beer. I think it's gonna be a good night. *g*

( For Lucas, a sunny, barely breezy afternoon with a temperature in the low twenties Celsius is an invitation to sprawl in a chair in the backyard, wearing just sunglasses and shorts. The fact that it's the middle of November even moreso – in Toronto, the first snowfall is often around this time, and bundling up is definitely required. He's a little amused at the owner of said backyard for covering up, in stark contrast to himself, and grins, ''Matthew, I'd call you a SoCal wuss but Vegas gets even hotter than L.A. does.'' )

Favourites? 'When you're in the mood for...' places? Where to steer clear of? Any kind of recs you've got, I'm willing to listen!

After living here for a few months, I'm still finding the queer scene kinda strange. Some of that's because I'm still *finding* it, period, lol. And some of it's because I'm used to being pretty thoroughly integrated, like I was back in Toronto, and it's been a long time since I was new and not also just a visitor passing through.

But it's qualitatively different, too, though I'm not certain I could explain precisely how. It just feels different. Anyone else know what I mean?

Back in Toronto for a few days to play Pride and earlier today, I'm hanging with my brother and all of a sudden the house starts to shake. We're both like, wtf? Turns out we did actually have an earthquake! 5.5 by most reports.

And then my brother goes, "Did you bring it with you from L.A.?" Yeah, I crammed those tectonic plates into my suitcase. Wiseass. *g*
