SUITS IS BACK. Which means it's time for Sam's Three Things About Suits!

Spoilers for Episode 2.01, We Have To Leave The Country And Get Married

1. Oh Harvey. You big nerd. When he quoted Highlander I did a double take and then when Jessica got the reference I died laughing. Also super bonus points for Harvey proposing to run away with Mike. D'awww, just kiss him already. But seriously, my favourite thing ever is when Harvey and Mike nerd out about pop culture. I don't even get half the references and I still love it.

2. DONNA I HAVE MISSED YOU. MARRY ME. The "deducing Harvey's mood from his clothing" was a little past belief, but I don't care because it was fantastic. Also, DONNA.

3. I am so, so glad to finally see Mike jettison Trevor. I have no illusions that the plot is done, but Mike's ambiguity about his relationship to Trevor was beginning to grate. It's one thing to have someone genuinely torn about whether to break with a friend who has stood by them, but Trevor has essentially done nothing but use Mike to feed his own ego and save his ass since the start of the show, so it's hard to see where exactly the "good friends" part comes in.

3a. Sometimes it takes a show a while to find its feet, and while I enjoyed Suits in the first season I think this episode shows it coming into its own. The writing was a lot more confident and specific: we're starting to get concrete backstories where before we got only emotional cues, which are easy to fabricate and hard to support. There are some really nice parallel plots that are going to arc longer than a single episode, and a lot of the somewhat flimsy tension devices in the first season are getting concluded or reinforced, in a believable way within the world of the show. I really hope this level of writing continues, because it's truly enjoyable to watch.
