Due South, Freezer Burn, RayK/Fraser

A drabble from this cancer AU I've been mentally plotting since my mom got sick. May or may not be expanded.

Freezer Burn

Ray’s smoke mixes with Fraser’s steam. They stand there for awhile in silence and stillness.

There’s a point where Fraser can’t take it anymore. “Ray, you should—”

“Don’t, Fraze.” Ray looks at the cigarette that’s been poised beside his face. He can feel the smoke fold back on his tongue, his throat—

—the force of the cough almost makes him bend over, hold onto Fraser for support.

Fraser rubs circles on his back. “Ray?”

“If I could run, I’d get the fuck away from you.”

Ray leans back into Fraser’s hand. “Understood. Your parents do still need to be informed.”

“Lemme wheeze here a little longer. Go inside. Lemme smoke.”

Fraser nods. He doesn’t say anything about how Ray’s cigarette had fallen to the snow and burnt out.
