OMG I UPDATE.[jun. 25-a, 2004|01:27 pm]

cpip
Well, LJ's down. And I need to get ideas out.
And I'm told this is a good place. Maybe I should port all my Traveller stuff from LJ/cpipultima to here. Since, well, not Ultima Subsector work anymore, and now Azaremiid Cluster. (It's just a jump to the left...)

But for now, Amber.

Two AUs for Ambering in.

Nine Princes at High Noon
O'Byron owns Amber City, and he does it by monopolizing the gold mines. That crazy old prospector DeWirkin keeps finding more gold for him, and ain't nobody knows how. O'Byron's had wife after wife, and now he's got thirteen kids or more - nobody's really sure.

But O'Byron's disappeared, and now his kids are gathering around to find his will, the deed to the mines, and his fabled private hoard...

I've got mental images -- in some cases, contradictory ones -- for the Princes and Princesses. For instance: Benedict can be the perpetual soldier, who has gone a-traveling the world to fight with every army he can, or he can be the too-honest, too-faithful lawman - maybe a US Marshal - who doesn't like coming home. Corwin can focus on his martial prowess, or instead call upon his being a wine-drinking, hard-living saloon singer who happens to be fast on his gun too. Miss Flora can be a debutante who spends much of her time in the glittering ballrooms back east, the dutiful and beautiful daughter of O'Byron who's the toast of the county, or have taken to infamy as the owner of Miss Flora's Place. Llewella can become Louella, the mulatto born onto a slave; or perhaps a half-breed Apache, or somesuch. Of course, the role played by Chaos can be filled by Native American warriors, or Mexicans, or something else entirely. It can be run without a drop of supernatural deeds, or metric tons of them.

Nine Princes Among the Stars
A sort of alternate Traveller, or even a DRPG game, or something; at any rate, Amber now is the central system of a starfaring empire, the only world to know the secret of faster-than-light astrogation, through the aid of an Artificial Intelligence known as "Pattern," programmed by the enigmatic scientist Dworkin.

But a group of computer hackers has stolen part of the code of Pattern, and their broken imitation is giving them some of the ability to travel the stars. Did one of the family betray Amber to the pro-democracy "Chaos" movement? Is the AI failing? What has become of the King of Amber?
