Vanessa and Daniel: Whispers and Kisses [Players, not pups. Awareness comes slowly to Vanessa; she's wrapped in comfortable warmth, body heat snug against her back and light blankets over them both, the air in the room kept cool with the swirling blades of a ceiling fan. Her senses recognise Daniel before her mind can properly call forth any words and her hand moves to cover the one tracing aimless circles on her stomach. The surprise at finding a layer of material between their hands prods her fully awake and green eyes blink open to view the guest room that had once been her childhood bedroom. Pyjamas, check. Or his 'n hers boxers plus a tank top for her, anyway – no sleeping naked at Mum's. Identifying their location also tells Vanessa what day it is, and there's an unmistakable thread of excitement in her voice when she murmurs, "Froggie, you awake?" "Mmm?" Daniel isn't actually awake, definitely not talking-awake, and he takes the hand resting on him and snuggles closer, nuzzling in against Vanessa's shoulder. Then the words register and he blinks, adding up the green walls and the unfamiliar bed, the glee in Vanessa's voice. He lifts his head and smiles. "Merry Christmas." "Merry Christmas!" Normally, now that she's realised it's the 25th, Vanessa would fling back the covers and bound downstairs. The relaxed sleepiness coming from Daniel makes her think that might not be appreciated quite yet so she tones it down, turning in his arms to give him an exuberant kiss and a dazzling smile. "I'm so happy that you're here." Daniel can feel the energy radiating off Vanessa and he grins into the kiss, hugging her tight. "Me too." It was his idea, that he could come here and spend Christmas with her, that it wouldn't be a huge deal to skip Christmas at "home" with his parents. It's worth it just for that smile, and it's been nice to spend some time with Vanessa's family, still getting to know people. "Are we getting up now?" he lifts the covers a little, willing to move if she says so. Laughing, Vanessa answers by pushing Daniel onto his back and straddling him, sliding her hands up his body to pull his hands over his head, pinning them there. She leans down for another kiss. "In a minute. I want to keep you all to myself a little longer. I'd say that I'd be quiet, but the door doesn't lock so anything interesting will have to wait until we get to my place tomorrow." Her smile shades rueful. "I wasn't allowed one as a teenager, and it just hasn't been applicable as an adult. I've not had anyone stay the night here with me. Not that I was dating." Vanessa telling him the door doesn't lock while sitting on him like that makes Daniel hope Vanessa's mum has some sense of privacy, at least enough not to just come walking in. But he keeps his arms where Vanessa's put them, happy to be held like that as he listens. What she has to say makes him want to hug her but he stays put and smiles up at her. "I'll make up the wait tomorrow." She grins. "Yes. You will." No one's going to burst in without knocking and waiting for an answer first. And truth be told, they'd probably be completely safe having sex, too, but Vanessa isn't wholly comfortable with the slight possibility of a walk-in, and if she isn't, she figures Daniel is far less comfortable about it. She flattens down on top of him, nuzzling his throat. "We'd be fine to, really, but the worrying takes the fun out." "Yeah." A few ideas have crossed Daniel's mind, things he could do for Vanessa, but they're definitely hesitant and held back by the risk of being walked in on. "I mean," he teases, looking down at her resting on him. "I already have to worry about what Mel knows about me..." He's not that worried any more, she's nice, but Vanessa and Mel are as close as he is with Heath, only with a hell of a lot more gossiping. He tilts his head down, kisses the top of her hair as she nuzzles against him, then relaxes back against the pillow. The dig about Mel makes Vanessa laugh and when Daniel relaxes, she lets go of his hands, bringing hers in to stroke his face, her forearms braced across his shoulders to prop her up so she can see him. "Not nearly as much as I know about you, don't worry." She initiates another kiss, tender this time, her mouth moving gently over his. "I can't wait to go away with you later in the week. Between that and this right here, it's already a fantastic Christmas. I almost don't care about any other gifts!" Vanessa chuckles. When Vanessa lets go Daniel wraps his arms around her, kissing her again before he answers. "I've been looking forward to that for ages." Sun, sea, somewhere to wander and explore with Vanessa. Chance to get away and go somewhere different, together. "Me, too." Somewhere that isn't 'his' or 'hers', where they can just be themselves and enjoy each other. Vanessa's beginning to get a picture of what that might be like in a more permanent sense; what the 'us' that she and Daniel are creating really looks like. "Great big bed, great big tub, fireplace, beach right there..." She dips down for another kiss, trailing little kisses from his mouth along his jawline, up to his ear – it's too hard to meet his eyes when she feels like this, overwhelmed with what's inside her. Vanessa's lips are whisper-soft over the shell of Daniel's ear but her voice is loud enough, if not that steady. "I love you so much." Daniel's seen the same pictures as Vanessa and the description pulls up the images in his head, making him smile as he strokes her hair. Then she nuzzles her way up to his ear and his breath catches at the words. He touches her cheek, turns his head to kiss her and catch her gaze. "I love you." He's not going to say too, not let it be just a reaction to what she's said – just the words he's been holding back for a while now. "I know." Vanessa has to laugh; it's a wobbly little sound but it's real. "God, that sounds so self-important, but it's true: I do know. I have for... I don't know. Ages, seems like. You're very good at showing me without saying anything or making it super obvious." She rubs her cheek against his hand, looking at him finally. "Thank you for waiting for me." It doesn't sound self-important, but it does make Daniel smile – Vanessa has been paying attention, has been understanding. He kisses her palm then leans against it, smiling. "It felt like I should wait until you said it." "Yeah," she agrees. "It's a little bit harder for me to be vulnerable like that – to be so intimate. But I feel secure enough with you to actually tell you now, give you the words." Vanessa watches him settle, smiling, then repeats herself, ignoring the little flutter in her stomach at speaking while Daniel's looking at her, testing the way it feels to stop holding it in. "I love you." Daniel kisses her – for the words, because she's there, because he can. He threads his fingers through her hair – he's used to it now, short and bright, enough that it's familiar – and holds her close. "Love you." Vanessa snuggles in tight against him, comforted immeasurably by his body heat and the feel of him surrounding her. They're both quiet for a few minutes then she lifts her head, slowly so as not to dislodge his hands. "I think we should put some clothes on, go get some coffee and open some gifts." "We should." If they were at home, hers or his, he'd suggest staying in bed longer, letting gifts wait. But her family are probably up already and really, they need to be up and presentable soon. So one last kiss and then he pushes the covers back, making room for Vanessa to move. Reluctantly, she does, pressing a kiss just above Daniel's navel before sliding off the bed onto her feet and stretching. Next, Vanessa reaches for the brush sat on the dresser, beginning to work the sleep-tangles out of her hair. "Lounge-around clothes are fine; can't remember if I told you that. We're not any less informal just because it's Christmas!" Daniel's tempted to ask Vanessa for the brush but that is really not going to get them out of the bedroom and ready for company any time soon. Instead he just nods and goes to find his own clothes, still smiling to himself. No more biting his tongue now. Vanessa isn't as patient or careful with a hairbrush as Daniel is but that does mean she's faster and in short order, she's yanking on a pair of leggings and a thigh-length jumper dress, not even bothering with a bra. Warm woolly socks and her rebellion bangle and she's done, moving then to pull the covers more or less into place – she's not going to make the bed properly when she knows damn well that it'll get taken apart and everything washed after they leave tomorrow. Daniel takes Vanessa at her word with casual, jeans and T-shirt, hair finger-combed back into place. Things have been relaxed here, her family have been easy to get on with, and he's enjoying the holidays. He leaves the bed to Vanessa when she starts, then holds out a hand with a smile. Taking his hand, Vanessa brings it to her mouth to kiss, then steps close to kiss his lips. Her free hand rubs his stubbled jaw with a happy hum and she declares, "Tomorrow, I want to feel all this scruff all over my thighs." "Yes Ma'am." No way in hell is Daniel going to argue with that one. He's not going to think too closely about it, not before going downstairs, but he's definitely not arguing. "You're so good to me." It sounds facetious but it's true, and Vanessa bestows another kiss on Daniel before leading him downstairs to make merry with her family.
