11:41 am - Rufus!
|
Last night I was at a Rufus Wainwright concert. It was great. The opening acts were quite good (Shannon McNally & Teitur). Rufus played for about two hours, and performed a number of my favourites, including Oh, What A World and Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk. He was chatting with the crowd, and making funny remarks, including a few random insults to Tori Amos. He also played some new songs, The Art Teacher and Gay Messiah.
( Gay Messiah lyrics here )
After the concert, I (and a few other fans) waited around the stage doors to try and meet Rufus. He was nice enough to give me an autograph, and I had my picture taken with him. He is a really great guy.

Just because I'm bored and trying to find new fics, I've made a list of pairings I want to read, but can't find more of.
Bug/Nigel (Crossing Jordan) Munch/Fin (Law & Order: SVU) Jack McCoy/Mike Logan (Law & Order) Mr. Lucas/Mr. Humphries (Are You Being Served?) James Bond/Felix Leiter (I've seen 3 Bond/Treveylan ones, but not this pairing) David Fisher/Keith Charles (Six Feet Under) Frohike/Mulder (X-Files)
Alucard/Walter (Hellsing) Spike Spiegel/Jet Black (Cowboy Bebop) Goemon/Jigen (Lupin III) Nigel/Leon or Leon/Daley (BGC Tokyo 2040) Takeo/Aburatsubo (Magic User's Club) Drake/JJ (FAKE)

I'm staying with my mother tonight. Usually, I live with my grandmother, but it's really too stressful to be there all the time. Besides, when I'm here, I get to use the computer for a bit.

11:23 pm - New Manga
|
I've been reading a new manga (well, new to me at least.) It's called Battle Royale. It's pretty much the horrifying reality show of the future. A class of Grade 9 students is randomly chosen and taken to an island, where they fight to the death. Whoever is left (one person only) is allowed back into society. It's pretty creepy, and that's saying a lot, considering how many supposedly "scary" horror movies I've laughed at.

5:27 pm - Happy New Year!
|
Hope everyone had fun on New Year's Eve! My friend Heidi and I watched Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone (I hadn't seen it yet), The Big O, Blue Gender, and half of Read or Die (the DVD was scratched and it stopped partway through). HP&TPS was quite well done, I thought, and of course Snape was wonderfully portrayed by Alan Rickman.

3:43 pm - Ah, A New Journal
|
I finally have a journal to write in. Good. And I just got home from visiting my uncle over Christmas. I got the new White Stripes and Strokes CDs as gifts, which made me happy. I hope everyone else had a nice holiday and got to spend time with their friends and family.

11:34 pm - OtaClub
|
Hey hey!
Now I've got another project to work on, besides Anime Purgatory. It's the "OtaClub", a fan club for Dr. Hal "Otacon" Emmerich, from Metal Gear Solid. Some people on the MGSlash group suggested it, so I'm starting the website.

5:28 pm - Cowboy Bebop
|
|
We saw 'Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' On Heaven's Door' on Sunday! It ruled! Could've used more Jet, though. It had a cool broom fight, and the best Spike line ever - "I like the kind of girl who can kick my ass." Plus some great slashiness! Jet was holding Spike close, and he was talking about their "relationship". A great movie with a cool soundtrack.

12:15 am - Autopsy Day
|
|
A very interesting day today. I finally saw my first adult autopsy. I'd seen an infant one before, but it's very different. Trust me. This one was an elderly woman. I watched all of the procedure, and didn't faint or get sick. The room is very warm, and badly ventilated, and with having to wear scrubs, a gown, and a heavy mask, I was starting to get a bit of heatstroke, so I had to sit outside and talk to Darby and Trevor while Dr. P finished taking sections of the organs for slides. A little while later Dr. Rowe came back and we looked at the organs together. I actually held the brain for a second. It's kind of interesting, philosophically, to think that you're holding someone's mind. I'll see the brain dissected next week after it's fixed in formalin. The slides will be ready in a few days, and I can work on my project then. Anyway, the whole experience was something I'll never forget.

Big update today!
I went to the Social Justice Now! Conference on Friday. It was really interesting. I was at a seminar on starting Gay-Straight Alliances at school. Abbee and Amanda want to work on starting one at Central. I'd like to help, even if it's partly because I'd like to annoy the Christian Club. (Though it would bug Dieter too... that's always fun.)
