The heart turned inward.
[Chris Pine, Zach Quinto, Zachary Levi, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Adrian Pasdar, Hayden Panettiere, Kristen Bell, David Anders.]

[December 13, 2008. Crossposted to [info]chris_pine.]

[Takes place the same day that Hayden, Sendhil, and Chris go shopping.]

"And in conclusion--" Milo gives himself a generous helping of salad before passing the bowl to Sendhil, "I am going to have a bruise the size of a grapefruit on my ass."

"The wipeout was epic," Zachary adds.

"And you keep trying to tell us that we should go skiing or snowboarding?" Hayden says, raising an eyebrow. "I think you're crazy in the head."

"But it was so much fun," Milo says. "I really think Chris would've enjoyed it."

"Sendhil and Hayden kept me very busy today," Chris says. "And then I had to help Adrian in the kitchen."

"You had to?" Zach says. "Did he make you?"

"Ooh, were there threats and spankings involved?" David asks.

Chris blushes furiously and can't look at either Zach or Adrian. "No. He was a gentleman. I felt bad that Adrian's been doing almost all of the cooking, and mostly by himself, so I helped. Plus I wanted to make sure Zach's meal came out cooked exactly how he likes it. 'Cause I've got something for him."

"You do?" Zach says, looking over at Chris and smiling. "Did you go out and spoil me while we were watching Milo fall down the mountain? And incidentally, the food is perfect."

Chris gets up so he can pull a little packet of tissue paper from his pocket, then sits down again and faces Zach. "We've been together for almost a year now," he says. "So I wanted us to have these. Just as a symbol. Of us. Being together." He's still not quite looking at Zach as he unfolds the tissue paper, showing two sterling silver bands. "And I swear, if you make fun of my Buffy fanboy ways, I'll cry like a small child and hide and never stop hiding, ever." He holds up one of the bands, which turns out to be a claddagh ring when he turns it around to face Zach. "'Cause I already know I'm kind of lame."

Zach turns to face Chris when he sits down, smiling immediately, then wider when Chris starts speaking. "I would never, ever make fun of your Buffy fanboy ways. Or of you," he assures him, reaching for Chris's free hand. "And you're not lame. At all. I love it."

Chris grins at him, then leans in and kisses him. "I love you," he says, very softly, against Zach's mouth.

"I love you too," Zach whispers. "So much."

Hayden reaches for Adrian's hand under the table and gives it a squeeze.

He squeezes her hand in return, then clears his throat very softly and raises his wine glass. "To Zach and Chris," he says, with a smile.

"To Zach and Chris," Hayden echoes, smiling when people raise their glasses.

Zach looks at Adrian and smiles after he pulls away from the kiss, then goes back to looking at Chris again. "Go ahead," he says, offering Chris his hand.

Chris slips the ring on for Zach, then hands him the other. "I think they're happy for us," he murmurs.

"I think you're right," Zach murmurs to him, slipping Chris's ring on, then bringing his hand up to kiss.

"Oh!" Kristen lets out a loud cry, then rushes around the table to wrap her arms around their necks. "I love you both so much!"

Chris laughs helplessly, his ear pressed up against Kristen's breast. "We love you too, Kristen."

Zach laughs, reaching up and touching Kristen's hand. "Yes, we do. Don't cry on us now."

There's a loud sniffle to Zach's left. Zachary tries as discreetly as possible to wipe his eye with his napkin.

"They're perfect," Zach says, giving Zachary a wink before he's looking at Chris again. "I don't know how you thought of them."

"Well, I really wanted to get something just to... show you how committed I am to you. And they sort of popped into my head. And I saw them in the shop and knew I had to get them."

"And he managed to do it without either me or Sendhil seeing what he was up to," Hayden says. "Chris is very tricky."

"I'm actually very deeply impressed," Sendhil adds.

Chris grins. "I wanted it to be a complete surprise."

"Believe me, it was," Zach says, kissing Chris on the cheek again. "I always knew you were clever though."

"I do try," Chris says. He clears his throat, a little embarrassed, and sits back. "So, um. Food."

"Food," Zach says, offering Chris a bite off his fork.

Quietly, Adrian reaches out and runs his fingers down Hayden's cheek, then goes back to his own meal.

She smiles, and keeps one hand resting against his thigh as she keeps eating. She can manage with one hand. Maybe, despite the horribly cold weather, it's not so bad here after all.
