Out of curiosity, what have people been signing up for? I went for the realnetworks thing; I'll take advantage of it for a month then *fwip* out the door. I must say, this is at least a more entertaining advertising scheme.

I need help.

How would one translate "storm in a teacup" into Japanese? I want to come up with a cute nickname for a new character, and her given name (theoretically) is Yoarashi - Night/Dark storm - and I thought the pun would be funny.

Belldandy (Ah! My Goddess), with special attention paid to the fact that it's two pieces. The frame for the wig is already made and can be worn over my own hair.

Vampire Princess Miyu (I have the pattern and cloth for the under-robe that's red). Need to find clear-topped shoes so the ribbon looks right.

A Kohaku costume with wings; I started to get a really NEAT idea for how to make wings that are semi-transparent, the way CLAMP portrays them in the manga.

Yuna's costume from FFX and perhaps a costume from FFX-2 if I ever manage to get healthier-looking.

A Gothic Lolita outfit - I'm leaning toward black right now with irridescent or rainbow tied in somehow - like perhaps rainbow gauze over black, which would be subdued and neat looking.

Most anime with battles has a "fight to protect something" theme to it - like Card Captor Sakura, or Ragnorak, or Gundam Wing, or X/1999. It's a reasonable sort of message to put out (along with the standard "friends are good" vibes), especially in anime aimed at younger audiences; it's an excellent way to instill a sense of appropriate violence. I was reading Gensomaden Saiyuki last night, though, when it struck me how different the motivations were portrayed for the boys in it. It's emphasized repeatedly throughout all three of the first manga, and all of the anime that I've seen, that Sanzo, Gojyo, Hakkai, and Goku don't fight to protect things - at least not in the traditional "I will save Fuuma" sense. Their motivation is internal; they are strong because they are relying on themselves. Although the friendship - the "home" that Sanzo's master talks about - is important, it is not the reason they fight nor is it the reason they are strong. This is offered in contrast to Kou'gaiji's struggle with fighting for his mother and his loss of strength due to his dislike of the one whose orders he takes; obviously the plot of the story is contrasting these two systems and rendering Sanzo & company as superior.

From the back of the class, Miyazawa Yukino heard the comments of her classmates around her, her hands closed into fists. It wasn't fair! They were all her friends! How could they be looking at this ...new girl, this ...interloper with such praise? Just because she was good at sports!

She was able to win back some attention with a showy basket, but on the way back to the locker rooms, Yukino found herself relegated off to one side of the crowd, the new student - Hanari Seiko - ensconced firmly in the middle.

After class, Yukino approached Hanari to offer help with her mathematics; she needed to keep Hanari close before her new rival could begin to draw attention away from her!

"Thank you so much, Miyazawa-san."

"No, please, call me Yukino-chan. I'd like it if we could be friends." Empty words, but the happiness kindled in Hanari's eyes gave Yukino her first glimmer of hope.

"I’d hoped we could. You're so calm and intelligent, Yukino-chan! Please, call me Seiko-chan." Such sweet, sweet words of praise!

"I’d be happy to." Yukino beamed at her new admirer, basking in the warmth of Seiko’s gaze. The new girl wasn't such a threat after all; it was obvious she just needed a little nudging, and she’d fall right into line with the rest of the class.

Yukino's place as the most admired girl in school was assured once more.

Now, commonly people think Fandom Wank is primarily concerned with the female of Homo sapiens wanka, but I've managed to isolate a few of the males of homo sapiens wanka in one place for us to look at. Aren't they beutes? Look at the overdeveloped frontal cortex; this gives male homo sapiens wanka an advantage when interacting with the unusually agressive and witty females of Homo sapiens wanka.

Look at that one, there in the back! That's a rare European Homo sapiens wanka there. Look at the markings - striking isn't 'e? We also have a Republican Homo sapiens wanka. Look at the brightness of his eyes and that gorgeous crest! We also have a blending Homo sapiens wanka. If you compared 'im to a female Homo sapiens wanka he would look almost identical, but don't be fooled! 'e's as male as tha rest of them!
