    QotD

From the Quotation of the day mailing list, 2008-01-14:

    "Treason is a matter of dates." -- Talleyrand (Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand-Perigord (1754-1838))

cartoon: Canadian reading a book titled 'A ConciseHistory of those Ungrateful Turncoats to the South of Us'

(I was thinking of this cartoon from a New York Times op-ed for Canada Day a few days ago, when I picked today's quote. I'm aware that Talleyrand had something a bit different in mind.)

    Last Night
After the Official Fireworks Fireworks Looking West

Bummer: I wasn't organized enough to have made plans for yesterday, and took long enough deciding whether I was well enough to go out that it probably didn't matter anyhow.

Bonus: I did feel well enough, late, to get up on the roof to watch fireworks.

Bummer: Silly me, using a long lens at night, I didn't think to use a cable release. Whoops. (I did eventually realize my mistake and start using the camera's timer.)

Bonus: Though I didn't get anything really great, I did get a few decent shots anyhow.

Bummer: The weather kept the city's fireworks at the harbour low enough to be mostly obscured by trees from my house.

Bonus: The weather was so comfortable I was tempted to haul my tent out to the roof and sleep out there. And it was just windy enough to foil mosquitos.

Bonus: I can see lots of other fireworks displays from my roof.
