"WGN radio last year had a thing about 'essential guy films'
that are movies every guy ought to see, and the following show
hosts (two sisters) decided to do a corresponding 'essential women
films' that weren't 'chick flicks' but featured strong women.
Someone called in with 'Thelma and Louise,' but then it devolved
into suggestions of various rom-coms and other assorted chick
flicks. I got so fed up with the options people had that I called
in with 'Aliens,' which I firmly believe is one of the best
female-feature films of the past 25 years. It has a strong female
action lead in Ripley, a great female supporting character in
Vasquez (and her other female Marines), a wonderfully-written
female ingenue in Newt, and a great female baddie in the Alien
Mother. The men, ultimately, are all secondary to Ripley and the
Alien Mom." -- Kathy_A,
