"Ah," Sera said, blinking in a way that didn't actually involve movement-- it was more of a mental thing. She'd become used to the theoretical way in which actions worked while in the Egg.

The wolf stared back at her for a long moment, before cocking its head to the side in a questioning manner. At first Sera had thought its coat was pure white, like the snow on the tops of mountains she'd seen in the pictures Serph showed her. But the wolf's image blurred in her view. Swirling red markings appeared on its fur, licking down its sides like flickering flames.

"I think..." Sera began, then hesitated. "I think maybe I, um, dialed the wrong number... so to speak?"

Giving a gentle shake of its head, the wolf trotted towards her. With each step it took, flowers bloomed, leaving a softly-glowing trail of greenery in its wake. It finally stopped not a foot from Sera's feet. Looking into the wolf's eyes made Sera feel dizzy-- it was no animal intelligence that lurked there, but a warm, all-encompassing light. As she sank to her knees, she could feel the light surrounding her in an embrace she could only describe as motherly, despite not having any personal experience of that sort.

When she wrapped her arms around the wolf's neck and buried her face in the silky fur, she thought of the way sunlight had been in the past, the way it still should be, and wondered if maybe she hadn't made a mistake at all.
