[FIC] Kingdom Hearts
Title: N/A
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Pairing: Axel/Roxas
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 267 words

"Do you remember being a human?" Roxas asks one day. They’re lying together on the bed, naked limbs entwined, Roxas’s head pillowed on Axel’s shoulder. His lips brush against Axel’s skin where his neck meets his shoulder when he speaks. On a whim, he flicks his tongue out, tasting salt.

Axel is silent for a long while. "Sure," he says finally, his voice falsely cheerful. "I was just as irresistible then as I am now." His arms tighten almost imperceptibly around Roxas.

Roxas snorts. "Irresistible. Right." He shifts so that he can see the other’s expression, propping himself up on one elbow. "Tell me about it."

"Well, you know." Axel shrugs, staring up at the ceiling. "Pretty close to the way I am now, I guess. It’s been a while. You start to forget that sort of stuff." Which is true, in a way. Just... not as true as he’d like it to be. He takes a mostly-unnecessary breath, closing his eyes as though not being able to see will somehow keep the memories from coming. When he opens them, Roxas is staring at him with something that might be concern on a human, pale fingers dancing over the curve of Axel’s jaw. "Don’t like thinking about it?"

"Nah. I was a stupid human." He grins, leaning into the caress. "’Sides. It’s not like I’m really him anymore. When you wake up... you’re different."

"You’re stupid now, too," Roxas says, but his voice is soft and he presses a kiss to Axel’s forehead.

"Yeah," Axel agrees, wrapping his arms around the boy and pulling him close again.

He’s gasping for breath as he rounds the corner, shitshitshit, gotta get away from these things. It’s like Hollow Bastion all over again, only this time he’s not small enough to hide under a ratty cardboard box in an alley until someone finds him and drives the fuckers away. And, crap, he dropped his radio three blocks ago, so calling for backup is right out. He fumbles for his gun, because hell if he’s gonna get close enough to use anything but a ranged weapon, takes careful aim, and bang. Whoops. Doesn’t even phase the thing, dark mist closing the bullet hole as soon as it opens. Stay calm, stay calm--he spots a nearby fire escape, maybe if he can get to that--

Nope. They’re already surrounding him, and hey, who knew the little bastards came in so many shapes and sizes. "Right," he mutters under his breath, tossing the gun to side. It hits the pavement with a clatter. His nightstick’s already in his hand, cranked up to full power, deadly electricity sparking down the length. "Y’want a piece of me? Well, come an’ get me, you shadowy fucks. But I’ve gotta warn you--Turks don’t go down easy."

He’s not sure if Nobodies are supposed to dream, because it’s not like the Organization hands out instruction manuals. It might have been handy if they did, though--here’s your number, your coat, and your guide to not being human anymore. But, yeah, it’s not something he can really ask the others about. They’re all for shedding their human identities, embracing the nothingness, yadda yadda, so the dreams wouldn’t go over well. Not just because he’s pretty sure he shouldn’t be having them, but because they’re about who he used to be. He dreams of sand, sun, and gentle waves. Of darkness and jealousy and self-sacrifice. Of a boy with a heart stronger than he knows and a soft smile and impossibly blue eyes.

The dreams stop when a boy with the same blue eyes shows up at the castle.

"Shut. Up," Demyx manages through gritted teeth as he picks himself up from the floor for what seems like the millionth time. He’s just glad that the wall has those convenient handholds to him haul himself upwards, or he’d really be screwed.

Axel isn’t listening to him. He’s still laughing like a hyena, clutching his sides. "Oh, man," he gasps, wiping his eyes. "That’s never gonna get old."

"I said shut up! God, you’re so mean!" He can feel the flush creeping over his face, and hates it almost as much as he hates the still-snickering Nobody in the corner. Still clinging to the wall, he hesitantly slides one foot a little ways out on the floor. He eyes it dubiously, shifting a bit more of his weight onto it. When nothing bad happens with that, he moves his other foot to join it, slowly releasing the wall. His eyes light up--he’s doing it! He’s walking!--then widen in panic as his knees buckle and he hits the floor again with a loud thump and a yelp.

"Yep," Axel snickers, "never gonna get old."

Demyx scowls. He misses his fins.

Pairing: N/A (Riku)
Rating: G
Word Count: 183 words

There’s a boy standing over him with two Keyblades clenched in his fists, familiar blue eyes glaring down at him with a kind of hate that’s completely unfamiliar. Riku can feel the asphalt digging into his back through the leather of his coat, the cold rain spattering his face and soaking his hair. The blindfold is wet, stuck to his skin. He can feel a despair as chilly as the water settling over him--he’s lost. Again. The only person he’s ever lost to before is--

And that’s all he needs. Because this isn’t Sora, even if it’s part of him. Sora’s asleep, and he’s never going to wake up if Riku doesn’t do something already. He doesn’t even have to think about his next move, launching himself off the pavement at the same moment he reaches inside himself for the darkness that’s always just there under the surface and twists. It washes over him, freezing fire spreading through his veins like a breath of fresh air. He can feel himself changing, and welcomes it.

He just hopes that Sora can forgive him.

The Keyblade fades from his hand as he climbs the petal-like steps to the center of the pod. The boy sleeping in its center stands out starkly from the uniform white of the rest of the room, all bright primary colors over sterile nothingness. "Hey, Sora," Roxas says softly, reaching out to brush spiky brown hair out of the way of closed eyes. There’s a shivering electrical shock when he touches the other boy, and the magnetic pull he’s been feeling since he entered the room gets that much stronger. If Sora feels it, he gives no indication--his breathing is steady, everything unresponsive. He’s reminded of that princess, the one put in the enchanted sleep, and has to fight back a laugh, because he’s no prince charming. He can already feel himself fading around the edges, the hand frozen on Sora’s forehead becoming translucent. It’s an interesting feeling, and somehow he’s not as scared as he thought he’d be. He made a promise--two of them--and he’s not going to break them. With a faint smile, Roxas leans forward. "Time to wake up," he says, and brushes his lips over Sora’s.
