"You're going to tell me you know a way to save him, aren't you." Guy pulls his hands away from his face, staring at them without really seeing them. They're shaking. They've been shaking ever since the Tower. It's a faint sort of trembling, like he's falling apart from the inside. Like he's disintegrating. Like he's the one who's going to die instead of Luke. He wishes he were.

Van is silent, as still as a statue at the rear wall of the inn. There might be something like sympathy on his face, or what Guy might've mistaken as sympathy in the past.

"And I'm going to believe you, even though I know it's a lie," Guy continues with a laugh, hating a how weak his voice sounds. "Because there's the possibility it isn't, and a possibility is better than nothing. Better than what he has right now."

"Gailardia..." Van's voice is low and unreadable.

Guy takes a deep breath and mentally apologizes to everyone. It's the only thing he can do at this point. "What do you want from me?"

Van holds out a hand.

Guy takes it.
