"Appearing out of nowhere like that is a bad habit," Seimei says. He does not look up from his sakazuki. The moon is full tonight, and he shifts his hand until its reflection rests in the middle of the shallow cup. A faint breeze sends ripples across the sake, causing the moon's image to dance.
"Is it?" His companion asks, his voice unconcerned. "Ah. Then it is truly lucky that sort of thing is beyond me."
Seimei raises an eyebrow. Wordlessly, he fills a second sakazuki.
The man's heavy pack drops to the floor with surprisingly soft thunk. "An invitation?"
"Is it so strange? Hoooooh, when you get to be an old man like me," Seimei says, his tone flippant and his eyes knowing, "you'll learn to appreciate a chance like this. To talk shop, as it were, with others in the trade."
"The trade, is it." The man's voice holds a tinge of amusement. Painted lips pull back from too-sharp teeth. "Very well."
He sits, and accepts the sake. The moonlight has washed his skin free of all color, but the reflection of his face in the cup is nothing but rich browns and golds. If Seimei notices, he says nothing.
"Ah," the man murmurs, looking into his cup. "The moon is lovely tonight."
