Content Boycott/Strike -- SUP's view of its users

For people interested in the LJ Content Boycott on March 21, 2008 -- this Friday -- and who might need information or would not otherwise see these links:

darkrosetiger has posted an accurate Russian translation of the interview Anton Nosik gave (translation done by russianswinga). The contempt that Nosik has for LJ users unhappy with the recent changes to LJ accounts is pretty damn horrifying. This is someone who refers to users interested in contacting advertisers with concern over recent LJ policies "idiots", anyone participating in the strike merely attention-seekers, and basically non-existent (he offers the theory that most of the "striking" journals will be sockpuppets set up by a few people), and notes it is the fault of the users that SUP can't change the policy to allow basic accounts again, "Because of the blackmail that has begun, our hands are tied."

In a situation where people are trying to scare and blackmail us, threatening to destroy our business, there are business reasons for not rewarding such behaviour. This is not just human psychology, which retaliates more the more it is pressed. Problem is that there's never been a successful company whose success was based on bowing to collective resistant forces. No decision - no matter how correct -should be based on pressure.

It would be more prudent to review this decision in the coming days. But smart corporate politics dictate that we must now wait for the boycott. Let it come. So that the subject of people's frustrations, threats and scares will be closed. And then we can discuss the problem in detail.

I think it is a serious mistake to characterize users concerned over this issue as people out to destroy this business, rather than participants in a venture expressing apprehension over such changes. Furthermore, the fact that SUP feels the decision was a mistake, but refuses to deal with users' problems with it directly and immediately because that would be "rewarding" "blackmail"-ing behavior is bad business, bad faith in its users, and freaking bad public relations with not only users but media outlets (read the interview for more evidence of this).

Information on the Content Strike | Time Zone Guidelines for Strike | List of Objectives for Content Strike

ogeecons has icons and banners to express support for the boycott.

I have a new default that I'm so pleased with!

Got the textless one here at shaggydogtail's fwank_icons, and if the blank one doesn't just shriek farmer's daughter + PIE! jokes, well, nothing does.

So my JF flist is getting cluttered. People who are just crossposting everywhere (GJ, IJ, LJ, JF), I *will* keep at other journal services, but not here. I've already got a JF flist, and I'm sort of losing those people and comms in a flurry of other posts from people new to JF -- posts that I've already seen elsewhere. I'm not crossposting all my other entries here (except perhaps fic, and I haven't started doing that yet) -- generally speaking, this place gets its own entries.

Just an fyi, in case anyone cares -- if you're on my flist elsewhere, no worries, it's only your JF I'm taking off my reading list. If you're only updating at JournalFen, let me know in comments, pls, and I'll gladly keep you here.

In conclusion, PIE! BOOBIES! PIE!
