Happiest of Happies to Jay! [10 May 2013|12:26pm]

A few years back on this day, something awesome happened: my friend, Jay, was born. She probably came out speaking and whatever she said was bound to be clever, and probably just a little bit wry.

Eight years ago I was blessed to have her share her sense of humor with me. The first thing we produced for Citadel was a log containing this:

A voice booms down from above: "Ladies and gents! Welcome! Without further ado, let the show begin! In the East corner, Bobby "Beautiful Boy" Carlisle! In the West corner, Eddie "Sex-Machine" Kent!" The curtain raises on the boxing ring, a kiddie pool of vanilla pudding square in the center and two strapping g-string clad lads in opposite corners.

A long pause from Guy, followed up by a slightly longer period of total silence. "James?"

"Guy?"

"Please tell me that white stuff is pudding?"

A bark of laughter. "Yes."

Guy nods, eyes impossibly wide. "James?"

"Yes?" Biting his lip against another laugh.

"Tell me that's not my dessert?"

And the rest is history.

A lot has happened in those eight years. Jay has moved cross-country, and brought into the world two beautiful, cunning aliens who have inherited her wry wit and clever ways (much to her head-shaking, laughter-laced consternation sometimes). She landed her dream job and has weathered the storm through good times and bad. And we have written, literally, millions of words over the year (I've counted).

Through it all she has put up with me and my idiosyncrasies, my insecurities and my flakiness. I love her and I'm thankful to have her in my life.

Happy Birthday, Jay. I hope you have an amazing day, a better weekend and an amazing year.
