Easily one of the most bizarre things I've seen online recently. At the time, I think I was amused because it's Ataniell complaining about R/Hr, but in retrospect it's so amazingly calm and non-hateful. |

Okay, Ataniell having a discussion with swythyv is pretty amusing.
Dear Ataniell: people tended to put R/Hr in H/G and H/D fics because since they're not the focus, they might as well just stay in character. Ships unrelated to a fic author's agenda are usually canon ships, just like any other details of the HP world are usually left in canon form if the author doesn't have a reason to change them. Like, I *could* make Hagrid three feet tall in my H/D fanfic, but if he's only mentioned once, why bother? Past a certain point you just don't need variety for its own sake.
Which, by the way (since that post predates HBP), was always a sign that fandom as a collective "knew" that Ron and Hermione were getting together: people who weren't invested in either one put them together. It's always the characters than fen are invested in that they completely misunderstand.
And then there's swythyv:
Yes, call me superficial, but "Ginevra." Somehow there's a difference between a girl Mum named Virginia and a girl Mum named after liquor.
She really seems to think, even after Ataniell quite reasonably explains to her what Ginevra really means, that JKR deliberately named Ginny after an alcoholic beverage of Belgium! Until she's corrected by an actual native speaker, at which point she kind of shrugs and says whoops, guess I'm insane! It's like her entire essay-writing career distilled to a single exchange. Heh, I said "distilled".
I grinned a little when I came across this quote...
You know what I really don't see happening, H/G.
;)
;) Why would a character who had a crush on Harry, and then had some character development and seemed to get over him, ever be the person he gets together with?? Oh right, because this_here_girl doesn't like her.
And then in that thread Ataniell goes on to tell us why she doesn't like Arthur Weasley. I am stunned that it's because something reminded her of her own personal experience. Stunned.

Exactly, and that's why it's so funny when she insists that it's not canon, it might never happen. Like it's some conspiracy where R/Hr shippers are writing H/D just to spread their message.
It's like her entire essay-writing career distilled to a single exchange.
Ha, too true.
She needs to learn that a rant does not an essay make.
Well, it is just potter_cliche. | |
