Jackboots On Whitehall [public to Establishment MembersWhee! We're really doing the puppet film, I get to play Braveheart and Hitler: top that, Mel! The Herald has a fabulous article about it: http://www.theherald.co.uk/news/76298.htmlThere's most of the cast set, but I'd be happy to use my influence if anyone else would care to play a brave Briton resisting the oppressive invasion, or alternately, a dastardly Nazi oppressor (villains are so much fun), just drop me a note. It almost makes up for the Bent closing on Tuesday. I do love the play. I'm having my own personal wake for it this week. | | Saturday, November 11th, 2006 | | 6:44 pm |
nataliep calls Alan Cumming [November 4, 2006, London]Nat is lying spread across the big comfortable bed in her hotel room playing with her phone. Is it too rude to call on such a short notice? She hopes not. It would probably have been better to call before, but getting on the plane was such a spontaneous thing really. And he might even know that she's there, maybe he saw her journal post about it. But maybe not, as he didn't respond to it. She goes over the scenario in her head a couple of time until it hits her that this is Alan, who agreed to randomly meet her in Las Vegas. She smiles, finds his number in her contacts, and presses the call button. If he doesn't have time now, she's sure they'll meet again at some point anyway. Knowing he should be resting, Alan finds himself all twitchy and irritable. For a play like this, matinees are very strange. The audience is an odd combination of drama students and retired punters, many of whom would rather see a musical. Except, of course, they're the ones who lived through it. The ones who really know how brutal it was, not the Good War by any means. The ones who Management, with everyone's agreement, usher backstage, where some of them show him the numbers tattooed on their trembling arms. He tries not to cry when they're there -- some kind of macho thing, he's afraid he'll fall apart and he's an evening show to do. There were two today, old women, smelling of powder and cabbage, so frail and bent he'd been afraid to touch them. He's learnt at least to say how much it means to him, that they come to see the show. Such big hearts they have, kissing him goodbye. Alan Cumming and Carlos Dengler carlos_d [backdated to June 24, at the Island Party] These parties are always fantastic. Carlos has been to several since joining, the ones that work with his schedule. This one fit into everything. On Saturday he'd woken up in the early afternoon, after going back to sleep when Friday's partner had left, and decided to come down to eat before the actual party. He had his costume picked out and everything. Alan had oozed out of bed at half eleven and tried to remember the night before. Getting distracted on the way back from the loo is the best he can recall. He's apparently too old for drinking quite that much. His head hurts and he's glad there's a place in the shade, because lobster-pink is not his best colour. ( an ice pick? Less common in these parts. ) | | Monday, May 15th, 2006 | | 4:48 pm |
Alan and lexy_k subvert solemnity [Set in New York, Monday May 15, 2006]Alan sometimes thinks he lives for Mondays. Theatres are dark, and it's a chance to just breathe. He manages to sleep, and even to sleep blissfully late, then potters about doing all the things that get lost in the week. A bit of email, catching up on friends, reading the papers and a bit of script he's been offered... X-Men 3 seems to be going all right, he finds with a pang that's not entirely mercenary. They were bloody rude about not wanting him back. By evening, Alan's tired of the flat and ready to go out. He pulls on black jeans and a tight purple knit shirt, leather jacket, and some wristbands. Not sure what he's prowling for, just ready for something... Since he was in the States already Alex was tapped to do a few radio interviews in New York. He didn't mind. He liked the city, even when he could only spend a few days in it. It wasn't like he had anything better to do. Bob was painting and Nick and Paul were with their wives. Alex didn't want to disturb any of them. ( Needs a lot of noise, cracking and screaming... Something visual as well ) | | Saturday, April 22nd, 2006 | | 4:16 pm |
a little fire in the fireplace [public to all est members]
and all the bad reviews of my show tossed in. I've no clue what they really want, Cabaret, part II? Bobby Darin? It's beyond me. Well fuck them, the audiences are happy. | | Friday, April 14th, 2006 | | 11:00 pm |

Alan Cumming / Alex Kapranos, "Birthday Flogging" [ est_cumming/ lexy_k, in the New York Establishment bar/hotel]This is the ugly stage of the production: the part when everyone hates sings off key, the choreography is far too complex, none of the costumes is quite right, every set is either thoroughly fucked up or just not right. Completely pear-shaped. Much as Alan loves the music, he's so bloody tired of Macheath's teeth he could just scream. When the lighting techs chase them out, Alan goes willingly, sloping off to the Establishment bar with a yen for some kind of thoroughly different entertainment. It is his birthday and Alex is in a celebratory mood, despite the increase in years- he's never been fond of aging. There is a reason he'd been 29 until the NME had dug up his birth certificate. He doesn't like to be reminded that youth is a fleeting concept. Still, birthdays are good for something. They are an excuse to behave extravagantly. He's managed to let his bandmates leave him to what he wants for the night, after the dinner and the singing, and he arrives at the Establishment in a fine mood. ( What do you want for your present, Alex? ) | | Tuesday, January 31st, 2006 | | 10:28 pm |
Yet Another Nomination I'm up (or is that down?) for Worst Supporting Actor -- for Son of the Mask, a film who's cheque cleared so long ago I don't even remember doing it. Congratulations to all my fellow nominees! | | Sunday, January 15th, 2006 | | 10:23 pm |

Out is nice, but only if you wanna be I see some gossips are monging their rumors -- hope you meant to tease them. If you choose to come out, I will be happy to help. An interview in The Advocate is always a good venue. Hoping for the best, love and kisses, Alan | | Monday, December 5th, 2005 | | 11:26 am |
Alan meets Lin at the Est Bar First day of filming is always chaotic, Alan's new film is no different. Though the fangirls waiting for David are a bit disconcerting: that Buffy thing seems to have a life of its own. Alan's grateful that he's encouraged to leave, though the crew will be working late, finishing all the things that slipped before. He goes straight to the Establishment but hits the shower before the bar -- he wants to be fresh in case he can find some action tonight. Hair still wet, he saunters into the bar and cases the joint. Lin's leaning against the bar, one heel hooked over the rail and her left hand teasing the edge of her pocket, old denim and a white cotton tee-shirt, the same red leather cuff that matches her boots and, coincidentally, the drink she holds in her right hand. It's a good night -- not so crowded that she feels overwhelmed, but not so dead that she feels on display. She sips her Cosmo and doesn't think about anything. ( even good girls need a little spanking now and then.... )Experimenting with something new: feel free to leave feedback right here. We love feedback! | | Saturday, October 29th, 2005 | | 8:39 pm |

Alan Cumming/Gavin Rossdale: Fitting Together [About a week after their their first scene.]Alan's never been one of those fey gay blokes who loves to "do" the interior decor. He quite enjoys quality furniture and interesting art, but once he finds what he likes, he has no need to clear out and start over. And if it's a bit cluttered, that's all right too. He can feel a tendril of nervous energy in his brain, wondering if Gavin will find his flat twee or shabby, but he suppresses it firmly. Alan decided long ago that he comes as a package, all the parts, determined to be himself. And in this case, that's domly as all hell. Gavin's a little nervous too as he faces Alan's door. As comfortable as he feels with Alan, meeting on his turf is something altogether different, and Gavin's hoping he makes a decent impression in Alan's home. He's wearing soft, tight black slacks and a nice shirt, and he double-checks that everything's tucked in right and draping appropriately before knocking on the door.
