Today:

More than 1100 words today - for me, that's very good! Don't get too excited about the 100% though, I'm not yet finished with the chapter, though I only need to finish the last scene now. Glorfindel's reward for the last few sappy chapters. ;) (Actually, it's Legolas' reward, but it's not as if they won't both enjoy it. *g*)

Also, I have no idea how he manages this but Haldir has wormed his way into this chapter again. He was supposed to show up in the next chapter, yes, but not in this one - but of course, there's no denying him. I am, after all, just the writer. I have no idea how some people manage to plot out an entire book before writing - my characters do with me whatever they want. I keep a few long-term plot points in mind, but stilll...

In non-smutty fanfic news, after exactly three weeks my Scull/Hammond The J.R.R. Tolkien Companion & Guide showed up today - it's huge, and the Chronology indeed has an entry showing what Tolkien did on almost every day of his life. More importantly, the Reader's Guide is just pure love, and it will be so immensely helpful - there are several entries alone on The Homecoming of Beorhtnoth Beorhthelm's Son, which together with Tolkien's essays on it perfectly showcase his interpretation of Anglo-Saxon ofermod, another concept important if you look at the Silmarillion, IMO. *geeky squee*

*big geeky squee* Yesterday before going to bed, I browsed amazon - and couldn't believe my eyes when I found that some marketplace shop was selling Christina Scull and Wayne G. Hammond's The J.R.R. Tolkien Companion and Guide for only 18€ in new condition! Amazon itself sells it for 90€, and though I have eyed it covetously for a long time (as John Garth says in Tolkien Studies 4 that "The J.R.R. Tolkien Companion and Guide will stand for many years as an indispensable aid to the study and appreciation of Tolkien,") I just couldn't make myself spend so much money on a set of books, no matter how good. 18€, on the other hand, for 2300 pages... ♥

I've really ordered quite a lot of Tolkien-related books lately, so that soon I will have to make a list or find out that I bought stuff twice. On the other hand, of the nine books I've ordered via inter-library loan more than a month ago, only one has arrived so far, so I'd just rather buy the damn books myself, if they aren't too expensive, which unfortunately many academic books are. Still, the one the library finally managed to procure for me, Tolkien's Legendarium: Essays on the History of Middle-Earth, eds. Verlyn Flieger & Carl Hostetter, has the essay on Túrin's ofermod I've been looking forward to.

Tolkien essay and Finrod

You can now find my essay on Exile, Wyrd and the Anglo-Saxon Warrior Ideal in The Wanderer and Tolkien's Quenta Silmarillion at the SWG!

Thank you, [info] - livejournal.comheartofoshun, for making me send it in - I really wasn't sure whether anyone would be interested in that topic. :)

I've also played with Poser some more; here is a picture of Finrod with Huan. I will have to work on that some more, maybe try and get Celegorm into the picture as well...
