1:24 am - Writing Challenge: "Guardian"
|
Elieth challenged me to write from the premise;
In Brightly Burning, King Theran makes the comment in his sorta pep talk to the heralds prior to the major battle that Valdemar can even make use of a herald that's confined to a litter with a broken neck. Could you write something about a herald that's had a really major injury, not necessarily a broken neck, but something pretty bad, and about them dealing with the fact that life as they know it is basically over, and there is no way they can be a conventional herald. And just because it's too easy, they can't end up as a teacher in the collegium, they have to do something different.

cat_mcdougall challenged me thusly:
I want original, non angst, non fandom, completely fluff-- with an older couple. Like... your parents' age.
But no angst. At all. Not even a smidge.
I originally started to write something titled Sketch Work, but that got swarmed under by the angst-bunnies. It wasn't pretty. So! Instead, I wrote:
( -it wasn't 'strange behaviour', it was 'eccentricity'. )

Write a story starting with the first sentence of a book. Any book, but it's generally easier with one you haven't read, as it needs to come out completely differently than the plot of the book it came from.

someone on the cast of CSI dies. It has to be one of the main ones (Warrick, Sarah, Gil, Nick, Cathrine, Greg). And they have to get usd to the replacement. Doesn't matter if they die in the line of duty or not, but the rest have to be sad, and I know ths is kinda like the first two episodes, but I thought it would be interesting.

This is actually something I've been working on off and on. I sometimes lack humor in my writing, so I, Mavan the Procrastinator of Doom, entrust you with making the following sequence amusing! ^^
Denise (main character) has telekinetic powers that she has hidden away most of her life. She's 19 and a smart ass to those with authority but she's sweet to the children younger than her. Does not like Jamie or Marcus.
Her mother sends her off to camp (boo!) to "fix" the problem.
Your scene is the bus ride to the Center.
Your characters to play with are:
Joseph- 6 years old who sees monsters under his bed and sics them on the playground bullies
Mia and Sheila- 12 year old twins with one brown eye and one green eye each. Finish each other's sentences.
Marcus- brooding 16 who likes shiny objects. Likes Denise's hair clip especially
Jamie- 18 and is slightly psychotic. Pyromaniac
Any other characters you would like to add feel free.

4:37 pm - Writing Challenge...
|
Over at my LiveJournal, I decided-- in a fit of bored daftness-- to post and challenge any and all readers of my journal to challenge me to write something. Like I said, daft.
I got many more responses than I was expecting, and am now working my way through said challenges. I'm actually having fun, and am going to archive the completed stories here as well, I do believe...

I've changed my mind and decided that this journal is going to be the one with my Muse themed layout. Isn't it pretty?
>^_^<
I am far too easily amused.
Now to sally off and make the Crow layout for my LJ!

Aaah, what a witty and entertaining title that is.
Yeah, so. etcetera-cat got herself a JournalFen account. Primarily, she must admit, to be able to participate in the fun of mocking fandom wank in a non-anonymouse capacity.
etcetera-cat has absolutely no idea why she is typing about herself in the third person. Not a bean.
She does, however, know that much pathetic inabilty to resize images is going to end up with her having a Crow themed journal, since she really does want one, but is fond of her Muse themed LJ layout all out of proportion to its technicality and impressiveness.
etcetera-cat is also entertaining the possibility of this becoming a 'fic archive journal, but realistically she realises that posting in here will probably be sporadic at best. This is due to etcetera-cat's almost bonkers attachment to her LJ.
She is seeking therapy.
