will be deleted in a mo...posting for someone.

Heh, there was much debate over them. Surprisingly little over Angel once we hauled out the scripts. People tend to immediately think Gryffindor with him because he's the hero of the series, but stick him next to Groo or Spike and it's clear that he's drastically different from them. He's the guy telling them to chill and wait until there's a plan in place. He's also more detail oriented than a Gryffindor tends to be. Sure, he's brave. That's not the thing that defines his personality though. How many times has he gotten in trouble because he wanted to win against Wolfram & Hart? Not even save the world or the people in it -- just beat them.

His logic and way of thinking tend to fall on the Slytherin side. Killing humans is the big no-no in Buffyverse, but he's done it when it needed to be done. (ie. Vanessa Brewer, those W&H types that he locked in the cellar with Darla, Hauser, and was going to with Lilah in the White Room. Not to mention the guardian of the Deeper Well.) He's the posterboy for using any means to achieve your ends.

*digs up quotes*

ANGEL
Serve no master but your ambition.
(turns to walk away)
WESLEY
What's that?
ANGEL
(stops at the door)
I think you may have been right before... about Illyria being a resource.

It's still their world, Wesley. Structured for power - not truth. - It's their system, and it's one that works. - It works because - there is no guilt - there is no torment, no consequences. - It's pure. - I remember what that was like. - Sometimes I miss that clarity.

Lindsey: They are constantly watching you. Other companies have drug testing - they have mind-readers. I go back there, they're gonna kill me.
Angel: That's what we call an acceptable risk.

Essentially, what makes Angel interesting is that he's a Slytherin trying to wear a Gryffindor's clothing...and often screwing up royally at it. He'd still be hiding and saving his own ass if it weren't for the fact that Buffy was jailbait. It took her to make him fight.

I could go on for pages about this so I'm cutting off now.
