Help from my Brit Flisters?

Or anyone who happens to be in the know or live in England...

Question one:
Mr.P and I are gonna spend 12 lovely days in England and we will be in London over the New Year. I would like some information. I want to do the big fireworks "thing" whatever that may be. In San Francisco thousands of people gather at the waterfront to watch the fireworks over the bay. In New York, we all know, they have the ball drop in Times Square. What do they do in London? I have seen on tv that there are fireworks at the London Eye and over Big Ben. Do people gather for this? Where? Is it something you have to wait around in the cold for hours? If so, that's fine, we just want to know what to prepare for and where to wait. We want to "experience" New Year's Eve/New Year's Day celebration in London. What is typical? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Question two:
What's good on the West End? Any recommendations? We have Hamlet tickets, so we'll see that with or without Mr. Tennant, but we want to see a couple other shows so any input would be great.

A great big thank you for any information you can spare. And have a very merry holiday season!

Blogging the election

- Gawd, my nails are chewed down.
- It's only 6:38 here in California and we have nearly and hour and a half left before our polls close.
- Obama is already at 200 projected electoral votes (270 are needed to win).
- Ultra conservative Orange County (y'know The OC) has had a very low voter turnout. Mr. P and I were wondering if they were discouraged by the polls that predicted an Obama victory or were those type of Republicans who just couldn't bring themselves to vote for McCain but would never vote for Obama.
- What the hell am I making for dinner?!
- Turned down a poll watching party because, for whatever reason, I want to be alone when the returns are in. I know I'm gonna cry. Either way. Obama v McCain and Prop 8 outcomes are gonna rip my heart out.

Sad Obama News

I just saw a breaking news bulletin that said Brack Obama's grandmother passed away. So heartbreaking that she didn't make it to see him win the election. It will be bittersweet when he wins. RIP Madelyn Dunham

Folks, vote tomorrow. Wait in line. Be Heard. Take a book.

HAPPY HALLOWE'EN & Thanks & update

I want to wish everyone a Happy Hallowe'en!

I also want to thank you all for your lovely Birthday wishes. You are the best. I am grateful for your sentiments, they helped to make the day all the more special. *MWAH*

Now for the TV Update )

Americans on my flist: I voted early. If you can vote early, do it! Take the time now. You never know what may go wrong on Tuesday. Heck, you may be hit by a bus before then! *knock wood* Please get out there and vote. Make sure your candidate gets your vote.
Californians on my flist: VOTE NO ON h8! Stop the h8.
Quite an historic vote for me. A vote for (hopefully) our first black president and a vote to assure the right of same-sex couples to marry. Make sure your friends and family vote too!

TV and Stuff

Lehman Bros. are filing Chapter Eleven and Bank of America is buying Merryl Lynch. That ain't shit compared to what's happening to us po' folk. And John McCain wants us to believe the economy is strong. What has he been smoking? Can I have some? Shit.

I love to review (mind you I'm no great reviewer) or I like to share my thoughts, rather, on the new shows on TV. But, I like to give a real opinion after I've seen at least two or three episodes. That's because I know pilot episodes are tough. There is a butt load of information to impart to the viewer before you can take off on your plot. That's why I dig two hour pilots. However, I will give you my preliminary thoughts.

True Blood after one episode - eh, was I supposed to laugh then? I REALLY love vampires so I'll give it plenty more shots. Hell, my first review of Moonlight was bad but it ended up being one of my favorite shows last season. Idiots cancelled it even though it won the People's Choice Award for best new drama. Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know this new mythology.

Fringe is the X-Files. Yep. Except she's Mulder and He's Scully. I'm underwhelmed. Only miildy intrigued and if it weren't for the fact that I've only seen one episode and that my hubby kinda likes it, I might not be back. We'll see.

Sons of Chaos *cough* I've only seen 15 minutees of this so far (Mr.P fell asleep and we watch everything together so I had to stop watching). BUT... It was good. I L-O-V-E this cast. It looks like a tough drama to watch. Gritty, violent and painful to watch. Yep. That was what I got from 15 minutes. But I also got SOLID. I will give a more full review after a couple of episodes. Who knows, I may hate it by then.

Less new shows...
Project Runway... eh, is this group a lot less talented than previous groups as a whole? does anyone else feel like that? I really can't list three people I think deserve Bryant Park. Anyone want to tell me how PR Australia is faring? Haven't had a chance to watch. Did I already miss it entirely?

Most Dangerous Jobs - Did anybody watch this? I've missed it completely.

Gossip Girl - Does ANYONE watch this or is this one of those shows you just hear about? This show's season premiere was the same night Sons of Anarchy premiered and guess who won the ratings war? </i>Sons of Anarchy</i>. And </i>Sons of Anarchy</i> is on cable! Just reaffirms my theory that NO ONE actually watches Gossip Girl but the entertainment mags love to write about it.

My heart and thoughts go out to those who are in the gulf coast and those of you who are preparing for Hanna and Ike. You have my best wishes.
To those who have already been struck and sacrificed to Gustav and Hanna, may God be with you and yours. Sincerely, you are in my thoughts and heart.

TWILIGHT - the Book

Heard the hype and I wanted to know what the hubbub was all about.

Cut for possible spoilers of the book and upcoming film. )

Whoa, did you see those Women's Gymanstics all-around finals? That stuff always blows me away.

stuff

Anyone else miss the days of Soviet dominance of Olympic gymnastics? Seeing the Chinese team holding hands, their fingers entwined was sweet but the Soviet teams would kiss each other full on the mouth after a good routine. Scandalous and erotic viewing for a young girl from a fundamental christian home. *sigh* I should try to NOT get slash fixes from the Olympic games but when Michael Phelps is practically flashing his jewels while being groped by a teammate, well, it's just so darn hard not to.

I hate having insomnia.

Oh yeah, remember that pseudo twinpron I mentioned I might post, eh... I can't find it. I hope it didn't delete it but I can't seem to find it at all. Plech. Sometimes I super suck.
