    The next step...
This was posted as a comment here, in response to the news that Ms Scribe had posted a public apology at one of her LJs. The comment was made in response to friend [info]redcoast's question about what I thought would happen next.

And here it is... (Again, fixed some puncutation, and redid the html, but no other changes)

    Much as before

    4) Dirty ‘em up.

    5) Rinse and repeat.

To an extent, anyway - if I were advising her on this one, I'd tell her to go back to business as usual, just a little more low profile.

A couple of posts to private lists to play up the comments here - "Well, I tried to apologise and look what they said about me. Guess you can't placate the festering madness that is B_P".

And there will be a couple of actual minor errors in Charlotte's account, so I'd play those up in private, focus her friend's minds on the little errors rather than the broader truth

In private, well away from the public lists, I'd really play up the comment by Saphsmum - "Look, I made a genuine apology to the only person I really hurt, and she said it was sorted, and they kept running on about it anyway..."

But the best short term strategy would be to just fade into the backwash of fandom - maybe post a couple of minor fics; make the odd intelligent remark on a discussion group; put up an essay or two on the discussion groups; make a bunch of cool icons for friends - and most importantly, not respond to this.

The commenters on B_P have been consistently portrayed as the pitchfork mob (Shezan, Heidi, Hedwig_Snowy et al) - I'd let that play out. It wouldn't do her any harm to have an essay or fic trolled by someone who'd been active on B_P.

That's genuinely trolled, I mean. Resist the temptation, Ms Scribe (if you're reading) to give that one a little nudge along...

There's nothing to be gained by public engagement with this debate. Having formally announced my return, I'd stay low key and start the process of rebuilding my standing with my former friends.

And if I were being really cynical about the rebuilding process and wanted to hurry it along, I'd trawl my friends flists and pick out people new to their lists and to fandom - start to build relationships with them, as a new group of potential friends.

This is an old comment - first found here. I'm reposting it so I have an ordered record of my thoughts on the subject. I've cleaned up the html, and (hopefully) added a cut to save my new friend's fpages from the tl;dr - otherwise it is as posted. I may also have fixed the odd apostrophe.

I’ve been having a think about this entire ‘scandal’ and the response to it by the various players.

It seems to me that there is a classic media management response in place here, playing out almost by the text book.
