I feel like babbling needlessly

So there's recently been a keruffle (God I love that word) in fandom because of a recent fandomsecret's post (gee. What a shocker). The secret that started this whole thing was one that proclaimed that the op could find no female characters shi liked.

(She'd fit right in in the Supernatural fandom)

(Sorry but my bitterness over that fandom is an ugly, ugly thing)

Now, normally I don't really care about these sorts of things (sadly, one cannot change the opinions of idiots so there's not much of a point of it) and usually it has to be truly stupid beyond reason to get me to comment but another post on this subject caught my eye. It was a list of all the female characters that op liked.

And it got me thinking. Be afraid, be very afraid. :D

So, without further adieu, my favorite female characters.

Arwen Undomiel [LotR]-
Because she gives up immortality for her love, because she is strong without having to wield a sword (and in the movies she does wield a sword and her courage there is lovely) and really. She is the other half of my OTP of OTPs so how can I not love her? *g*

Luthien Tinuviel [Silmarillion]-
Because not only is she the fairest of them all, she is also the strongest and the most powerful of all. She handed both Sauron and Morgoth defeats, she chose to love and give up all for that love and she didn't take flack from anyone. If people got in her way, she walked right through them. And because she is the avatar of Tolkien's wife and that hits me right in my romantic heart.

Eowyn [LotR]-
Because she kicks ass! She rides into battle disguised as a man and slays the Witchking. I like her better in the book (though I mean no disrespect to Miranda Otto who is a lovely, lovely woman) because in the books she is the cold, grave and borderline suicidal so her victory and the happiness she eventually finds always puts a smile on my face, no matte how many times I reread it.

I love pretty much all of Tolkien's women but in the interest of making sure this isn't twenty pages, we're just going to list those three and move on.

Luna Lovegood [HP]-
Because she's crazy. *g* No really. I love her randomness, the way she sees the world, her fashion sense, and the way she can just roll with whatever life throws her way and continue on. No capslock rage for this lady!

Lily Evans Potter [HP]-
Because she loved her son and husband fiercly, because she stood fast in her beliefs and because she chose to fight and defy an insane murderer. Because she proved herself to be a Gryffindor through and through.

Teyla Emmagen [Stargate: Atlantis]-
Because she combined beauty with strength. She was the one of the best fighters and in terms of style, beat even Ronon. She loved her people, her son and her Team fiercely and is willing to kick people off towers if they threaten them. :D My kind of woman indeed. Also, her compassion and smile were a joy to watch. She was the second member of the Atlantis cast that I fell in love with.

Leia Organa Solo [Star Wars]-
Because she is feisty, smart, beautiful and takes shit from no one. Because when I think of kick ass princesses, she is the first one to pop into my mind.

Mara Jade Skywalker [Star Wars]-
Because she also takes shit from nobody (including her own husband) and because she is strong and powerful. She rose above her beginning and is (we're ignoring everything post the New Jedi Order btw) a damn fine warrior. And also because she's a Mama Bear.

I love all the female Straw Hats [One Piece]: Nami because she is spunky, fun and the only one with anything approaching common sense among them and Robin because she is suave, calm and a badass bookworm. And I love both of them because their pasts did not break them and they have proved to be strong because of their pasts, not despite them.

Princess Nefertari Vivi [One Piece]-
Because she is gentle, fierce and willing to risk her life for her people. Because she loves her friends but holds her duty as more important. Because she is not a rebellious princess but is instead everything royalty should be. And because she can fight when she chooses to! :D

Doctor Kureha and Shakky [One Piece]-
Because they are kick ass women of an um elderly age. *g*

Boa Hancock [One Piece]-
Because she is strong, has hidden depths, is a jerk and proud of it, apologizes to no one and because she kicks cute baby animals! XD

Inoue Orihime [Bleach]-
Because she wants to protect the people she loves, because she has such a willingness to love, and because, like Luna, she sees the world in a different way. I also love her because she is not selfish and because she is aware of her failings and tries so hard to do better. She wants to be strong but she is already strong and I also love her because though she might be a little bit broken right now, I have faith that she'll find herself again.

Kuchiki Rukia [Bleach]-
Because she fights, because she is loud, confident and rises above her past. She stands firm in the face of danger and doesn't waiver in defense of her loved ones. And because she doesn't hesitate to knock sense into Ichigo when it's needed. And also 'cause her sword's pretty. XD

Shihoin Yoruichi [Bleach]-
Because she takes shit from no one and is the Goddess of the Flash. Also, she turns into a cat, is confident and sexy and is very gay with Soi Fong.

Kusajishi Yachiru [Bleach]-
Because she is a pink haired Tiny Bruiser who is going to grow up to be utterly terrifying.

Sarugaki Hiyori [Bleach]-
Because she kicks people in the head and/or groin and calls them dickface. Because her relationships with both Shinji and Urahara reveal new sides to them. Because she is rude, crass and damn proud of it.

Kurosaki Masaki [Bleach]-
Because she loved so fiercely, defined her family and because she gave her life to save her son's. A mother's love is a powerful thing.

Haruno Sakura [Naruto]-
Because she might have started off as a hapless twelve year-old fangirl and as the Load, but she realized that and went on to become really fucking awesome. She can shatter boulders with her fist!

Hyuuga Hinata [Naruto]-
Because for all of her shyness and quiet nature, she is still capable of great strength. Because before anyone else noticed Naruto, she did. And because, like Orihime, she is stronger than she thinks she is.

Uzumaki Kushina [Naruto]-
Because while her son may look exactly like his father, she is the parent he takes after most. Because she could smile even after her homeland was destroyed. Because she could love after that. And because she won the heart of the Yondaime which means she had to be beyond awesome. *g*

Integra Hellsing [Hellsing]-
Because she is Sir Integra Hellsing. *g* She's the most badass, hardcore, take-charge woman ever. You can't scare her, you can't stop her and you never want to be her enemy. Because she can and will fuck your shit up. She understands sacrifice and duty and will do anything to fulfill her duty. She's also kinda sarcastic. Oh! And because she smokes. What? It's rare to see a cigarette smoking badass that's a woman and I love Integra because she is.

Mulan [Mulan]-
Because she chose her fate. She chose to fight and triumphed. She rose to greater heights then she ever thought she could and because not only did she save the country, but she also got her man.

Tara McClay [BtVS]-
Because she was an amazing character. She was capable of loving everyone, was calm and had a peaceful influence. Because she had the strength to walk away from the person she loved most when she had to. And because she was willing to forgive and come back.

Dawn Summers [BtVS]-
Because she is normal despite her origins. Because she wanted to fight (and did!) and didn't let Buffy make that choice for her. She matured over the seasons, gaining strength and the ability to intimidate vampires and because, back when Buffy was on the air and I was watching it, she was the one I could relate most to.

Cordelia Chase [AtS]-
Because she is Queen C and she isn't a little 'sniveling cry Buffy' and damn well knows it. Like Dawn, she too matured and really came into her own. Ignoring Season 3 (I loathe that season), I love her because she walks tall, is snarky, doesn't doubt herself and because she loves her family and they love her too.

Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) [DC Comics]-
Because her original counterpart embodies everything a hero should be (go read the scans I posted under the dc tag for more on that); because the post Crisis version of her is a teenager who has gone through a lot but keeps on getting up. Because when I was ten/eleven and was first introduced to her animated counterpart, I wanted to be like her. Because she is my female hero.

Barbara Gordon (Batgirl I/Oracle) [DC Comics]-
Because she never let her tragedy stop her. She flew once, chose to be a costumed hero because she wanted to help and after the Joker paralyzed her, she didn't surrender to despair. Instead, she chose to become Oracle and as Oracle, the whole fucking world respects her and looks to her. And because she doesn't take shit from anyone, not even the goddamn Batman.

Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) [DC Comics]-
Because she began it all. They don't always write her well but when they do, she takes awesome to new levels. The New Frontier version of her inspired all and refused to be a puppet of America and men. But her regular comic counterpart is also dear to me because she is confident, beautiful, able to both love and fight and is everything a Princess and an Amazon should be. And also because she once blinded herself in a fight so she could defeat Medusa.

Lois Lane Kent [DC Comics]-
Because she is awesome. She is the star reporter, is sassy and bold, refuses to back down and will stop at nothing to get her story. And because she is the woman who captured the heart of Superman.

Selina Kyle (Catwoman) [DC Comics]-
Because she is the definitive Cat Burglar. She is sexy, confident and never backs down. Her choices are her own and is both classy and awesome. She is also the only woman who is more than a match for Batman XD

Jean Grey (Phoenix) [Marvel Comics]-
Because she is a god. No, seriously, she is. She is powerful, beautiful and loves fiercely. And she knows that she is powerful and beautiful and doesn't shy away from it. And also because the love she and Scott share is so powerful that there is literally no reality that they are not drawn to one another in some way.

Jubilee Lee [Marvel Comics]-
Because she laughs loudly and never surrenders. She is independent and loud and can give better than she gets in a fight. And even back when she was The Kid, she was as compassionate as she was spunky. And also because she's Daddy's little girl and has knocked him back into sanity several times now.

Mary-Jane Watson Parker [Marvel Comics]-
Because she, like Lois, doesn't need a costume to be awesome. Instead, she is a normal woman, full of fire and passion. She loves her husband and stays by his side and makes him a better person. Marvel is insane for thinking otherwise.

Besty Braddock (Psylocke) [Marvel Comics]-
Because she is yet another confident and sexy woman who can kick ass and take names with the best of them. And because she's a ninja and loves to dance. XD

Rogue [X-Men: Evolution version]-
Because she is awesome. Her powers suck, she knows it, but she doesn't give up. Some days, admittedly, that goes better than others but that's okay too. She's an angsty goth but she's not emo and never will be. She's believable and well-rounded and is yet another kick ass female character. And I also love her because so many people try to mindfuck her but she still won't surrender to despair. And also because she shoved Mystique off a cliff that one time.

Karrin Murphy [The Dresden Files book version]-
Because she is the Lancer and Champion. She's blonde, tiny and can kick your ass in a heartbeat. She's also one hell of a Badass Normal. She knows her strengths and plays to them. She's also the best friend anyone could ever ask for.

Charity Carpenter [The Dresden Files book version]-
Because she is the greatest Mama Bear ever. Seriously, do not fuck with this woman. Because she will kill you with a sledgehammer. And don't ever mess with her kids or she'll storm your castle to get them back. And lastly, because after twelve books and counting, she's still the person who intimidates Harry like no one else.

Mai [Avatar: The Last Airbender]-
Because she is me. XD No, really, I see a lot of myself in Mai, from her apathy to her need to be by herself every once and a while. But I also love her because she chooses love over fear and saves the day, defying everything she'd been taught, really. I also love her because she's going to be one amazing Fire Lady.

Toph [Avatar: The Last Airbender]-
Because she's Toph. Do I actually need to say more than that?

Azula [Avatar: The Last Airbender]-
Because she's a Magnificent Bastard of the first order and is one hell of a Chessmaster and a fighter. She was the toughest threat the Gaang faced and I love the fact that she was allowed to be so terrible. Azula is hardcore man. Totally hardcore.

Donna Noble [Doctor Who]-
Because she was one of the best. Pretty much all of the Doctor's companions are awesome but Donna stands out. She's rude and won't stand for the Doctor being all godlike. She'll knock him down a peg when he needs to be knocked down and she challenges him to be better. I love her because she was exactly the kind of companion the Tenth Doctor needed. But I also love her for her compassion, her character growth and her desire for adventure and life. Oh Donna, you were amazing.

Romana [Doctor Who]-
Because she was just as good as the Doctor; in fact, in many ways, she was better than him. She was strong willed and loyal, an all around beautiful woman who saved the Doctor and loved. She and the Doctor also had really great chemistry and were very obviously lovers.

Ace [Doctor Who]-
Because she beat the crap out of a Dalek with a baseball bat. And she blew up another one with a rocket launcher. And she lugged around explosives. Actually, I think the better question is not how could I love Ace, but instead, how could I not?

I love all the main female characters on Criminal Minds but since there's four of them and my hand is starting to hurt, just know that JJ, Emily, Elle and Garcia are all awesome, competent and made of win. Especially Garcia since she gets to be sexy, flirty and plump.

Lucy Pevensie [Chronicles of Narnia]-
Because she has enough faith to sustain the world. She holds onto her faith even after leaving Narnia and never waivers in her belief. She's fought in battles and has saved Narnia multiple times but she also laughs the brightest and loves everyone.

Avaris [Chronicles of Narnia]-
Because she is stubborn, strong-willed but full of courage and heart. She loves, lives and is as fierce as the desert she was born in. And because out of all of Lewis's female characters, she had the most spunk.

Uhura [Star Trek: The Original Series]-
Because she is more awesome than words can describe.
