Why the mods are mean.
Saved for posterity. And mocked because I felt like it.

Pretentiousness FTW!

There was a recent post in FFR that was deleted, the person who deleted it was a) a sock puppet and b) banned. Of course. However, apparently the mod tags that are so loved are not loved by everyone.

Especially not [info]burning_cutlass.

And I do quote...

(This is where I must come in and agree with you wholeheartedly.)

Now, I'm not a member of this community, nor was I ever, but I've been mildly active in cleaning up some of the filth that it sometimes leaves behind.

Yes, the mod tags are obnoxious. In their execution, they are a mark of childishness -- blurting out insults and rude phrases in a sloppy manner. Sure, some of the posts they get placed on do lack merit, but why? Because these posts are obnoxious and rude in their execution, am I right? Therefore, why do the mods see fit to retaliate these posters with obnoxious and rude comments of their own? As far as I've been taught, two wrongs still don't make a right.

And if I may, using a sock puppet in order to protect your true internet identity from flamers and other such scum is no crime, especially not when you make it clear that you're doing so. The problem with this community lies with the sect of its members who see fit to go out of the community's bounds to attack people's personal accounts, which is exactly why this poster in particular is using a sock puppet. Yes, a sock puppet can be frowned upon if it is being used as a tool to attack without fear of consequence, but as an admitting shield and doing no harm, there is very little reason to feel threatened by it.

I have to wonder how in the world this individual has to clean up after the community? Seriously, wtf is he/she/it even talking about? Not a mod that I know of. Even still, mods don't clean up shit when people behave badly on ze comm and have their asses handed to them on a silver platter.

Which returns me to the point of sock puppetry. If you feel the need to post using a sock puppet because you are SO afraid of people's reactions to what you plan on posting... perhaps you should heed that inner voice and, oh I dunno, NOT POST IT TO FFR.

By god you'd think there were no other ranting communities out there.

But didn't you listen? It's a shield puppet - a rare subspecies of the vicious common sockpuppet, recognizable by the pacifistic embroidery pattern and sophisticated ethics.

She seems to have mistaken fanficrants for an elementary school.

Or maybe a hallowed and prestigious Ivy League University, where everyone adheres to an exalted level of decorum and professionalism unmatched by the rest of the world.

...

How the HELL did I type that with a straight face anyhow?

I'm beginning to think we need to have mod icons of us in suits with "PROFESSIONAL MOD" on them. You know, as a reminder to ourselves that we're in a setting where people are expected to behave seriously and respectfully towards each other.

I'm picturing an icon with that eagle reporter muppet from The Muppets, whatever his name was, now... He's got that look to him, that stern and humorless dour kind of strict gaze that we need to adopt as professional mods.

I"m considering changing the info page to reflect that.
