Ooh, Rhapsody, by Elizabeth Hayden! The list is endless Half Lirin, half human. Met a time traveling prince when 13, fell in love with him, he leaves, she angsts. Goes to the big city trying to find him, gets stuck, becomes a prostitute. (more angst) Becomes a Singer and a "Namer" (meaning that if she knows the 'true name' of anything, she can control it) Runs into two half-Bolg assassins (who are uber-cool, and really don't deserve having her around) and together they take a leaf from Jules Verne and walk clear through the center of the earth to the other side. While traveling through the heat and the center of the world, she is transformed to become inhumanly beautiful and her virginity is renewed. Is immortal Finds a magical firey sword that "is drawn to her" Learns the language of this new country in practically no time Everyone is stunned by her beauty, all love her to the point of adoration. She never realizes her beauty, and thinks that she must look like a freak. Is constantly whining about how she's only a peasant, and therefore "not good enough" Saves a bunch of children from an evil demon. Fandom: Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles Work: Crops up after the series jumped the shark with Queen of the Damned Okay, so I don't think they quite beat Ayla for sheer perfection, but Rice is incapable of writing females with character flaws. They're all gorgeous and tragic and talented and just when you swear that said vampire was gay? They all fall hopelessly in *true love* with mortal female. Eh, what the hey: Name of Sue: Any central male character in any of Piers Anthony's novels. One Stew, many names--but if anyone can narrow it down for the sake of convenience, please do. Fandom: Mostly Xanth, but also Total Recall and about a million others I don't remember. Doesn't it seem that most Sue authors are super prolific? Title: See above. Pick up any Anthony book, one will be there. Without fail, the Stew will be young (or middle-aged but incredibly well-preserved), with rugged, manly good looks and unlimited virility. He'll start out as just a normal, over-looked, cocky youngster from an unimpressive background but will soon discover special powers/super human fighting abilities/secret knowledge which will enable him to save the world (or Mars) from evil with the help of a band of misfit sidekicks. In the meantime, every woman in sight will throw themselves at his feet. Said women are always ridiculously beautiful, voluptous, and hornier than a jackrabbit on Viagra, and are either much younger, stupider, and more naive than the hero, or have lower status or a shady, shameful past. If much younger (sometimes disturbingly so), they will seduce the lustful, but reluctant and morally conflicted Stew so persistantly that he can't help but sleep with them, statutory rape laws be damned. As long as they're inferior in some way to the Stew, who nobly guides, cares for, and protects them from eeeevil rapist villians, it's all good. Meanwhile, the less attractive villain is vanquished, even if his powers or intelligence are supposedly unmatched. If female, the (gorgeous) villainess is softened by her love for the Stew and becomes a happy housewife or is put in her place by his rejection. Not that it annoys me, or anything.
