Just like I suspect that the only people who are interested in this current drama are the ones in the thick of it. Drama, drama, drama. *shrug*
Although I am baffled -- how hard would it be to guess that fandom_love would bring the JF server down, and hard?

| Oh, hell. Somebody remind me to stay away from Domlijah4EVA!!!11!1!-type journals.
I was reading a rant the other day about how LotR fandom seems to have been reduced to a group of people who simply like to squee about the actors instead of having any real love of the original text, and I had the knee jerk "you elitist!" reaction (which is kind of hypocritical on my part -_-), followed by "but, but, I enjoy writing about the actors just as much as the characters; does that make me part of the downfall of the fandom?" (Despite the fact that I have been in love with the text since I was 11, and I insist on being ridiculously pedantic about details and I help moderate a board dedicated to learning Elvish.)
And then I spent a teeny bit of time today wandering through the various and sundry OMGDOM!!!1!1!!11 LJs out there -- I now feel vaguely ill.
How can so many people squeal so unrelentingly without offering up any sort of real content? Fuck. The lack of spelling alone makes my eyes bleed.
Makes me glad that I'm way in the other end of LotR fandom, because for all our problems, Manslash seems to have way, way more meat on its bones. Sure, we've got our share of squeeing (and there's nothing wrong with that), but at least it usually accompanies a picture or some news tidbit or something -- not simply a random squeak to clutter up friends' pages.
I mean, hello, how long would I last if all I ever did was whimper "Sean. OMGGAWD, THE BEAN!" Yeah. I'd be booted so fast...
...I suppose I can take comfort in the fact that after RotK (while I'm not going anywhere), the drooling actor-fangirls will most likely defect to the next pretty.
Am seeing all too clearly where the elitists of the fandom are coming from. Too bad I was lagging so far behind and didn't get a chance to join 'em. Instead, I'm stuck protesting against my suckiness with the rest of the "unwashed masses." ^_^ | | comments: Leave a comment |

| Chapters called my mother yesterday.
It was simply a courtesy call with the intent of informing her that they had a variety of Mother's Day gifts available. The gift section is new, and entirely unbefitting of a bookstore, but that's beside the point.
The point, and this is the kicker, is that they called her NOT because they were calling all of their members/customers, but because she is one of their top 300 customers.
Um, that's my fault. Her card lives in my wallet. -_-

| I've been looking for a nice place, apart from the crowd, where I can get away from some of the more annoying fandom-related fusses and relax. I've also been wanting to keep up with some of the JF communities without having to pull up and click through a bunch of links, so thanks to a very kind code donation by ![[info]](http://www.journalfen.net/img/userinfo.gif) ana, I'm here and able to do exactly that. ^_^
It's very possible that I'll be locking down most of the entries for viewing by myself -- I haven't quite decided yet.
